TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - omahen - 06-15-2025 Orlando traded for Desmond Bane. KCP, Anthony and 4 FRP. Memphis firesale? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - ThisIStheYear - 06-15-2025 Bane is a nice player but far from a star. He brought back a massive return. More than the Mavs got back for Luka even. I think it means two things: 1) most of the trade ideas bringing back a good player for junk aren’t going to happen. We’re not getting Reaves for Gafford or something like that. Durant will bring back a nice package. 2) It’s even clearer now how bad Nico is at his job. Today’s trade is basically a message that there’s only one Nico. Other teams aren’t going to be giving a good young player, much less a great player away for an old player and 1 distant future pick. It’s a trade to catapult them into long term contention. Traded Bane for a better package than the Mavs got for Luka. Unbelievable. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - omahen - 06-15-2025 What is the Memphis angle in this trade? Sure they got a great package for Bane, but he is by far the best player in the trade. JJJ is in his contract year. Will Memphis retool around him and Morant or is one of them (or both) next on the block? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - omahen - 06-15-2025 I can understand Orlando. The price is very high, but Bane is basically exactly what that team needs. They could be really, really good next season. As current finals are showing, the league is wide open and lots of teams may think they are one move away to have a chance. Who even saw Indiana in the finals, let alone them being competitive. I am not advocating for the value received in the Luka trade - not sticking up for it. But, that package is NOT better than what the Mavs got. Those 4 firsts, from a good team in the EAST, are going to be worthless, especially now with the college money making the end of the first round even less likely to yield good players. Comparatively, I'd much rather have that ONE Lakers pick from down the road, because I think they're going to be bad by then, not good. I really hope the Mavs don't trade that pick, or at least get something good in return if they do. The other part of the conversation that Mavs fans don't acknowledge is the AD was worth a few 1sts, himself, so that's value that "cancelled out" some picks in the exchange, at least in the minds of those making the deal. I think Harrison should've gotten more value, and have said so, but I would MUCH rather have the LA to DAL package than the ORL to MEM package. I think this is an overreaction on your part. Does he have a negotiation coming up they wanted to avoid? RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - omahen - 06-15-2025 (06-15-2025, 11:22 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: I was wondering the same thing. JJJ is expiring the coming season and Memphis would likely love to resign him. But trading one of the best players away is not exactly a move that would scream long-term success. Memphis can't offer more money to JJJ than other teams, I think. Unless Bane was a lockerroom problem. RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - omahen - 06-15-2025 KCP has a really bad contract. 2 more years at 21 per. He is a usefull player, but greatly overpaid. Cole Anthony is a smallish PG, difficult to see him play next to Morant. Memphis saved just 2 mil in a trade. Really strange deal for them Edit: it looks like Memphis can now offer actually 2 mil less to renegotiate and extend JJJ. Interesting RE: Trade & FA 2025-26: - Ghost of Podkolzin - 06-15-2025 So Bane deal is pretty similar to to Bridges, isn’t it? TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - SleepingHero - 06-15-2025 Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap, sources tell ESPN. Orlando is sending to Memphis the No. 16 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Phoenix's first-round pick in 2026, Magic 2028 unprotected first-rounder and Orlando's 2030 unprotected first, sources said. Pick swap is lightly protected in 2029. RE: TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - SleepingHero - 06-15-2025 @KeithSmithNBA If my math is correct, the Magic-Grizzlies trade will have to go official before the league year changes over. Salary-matching works fine using 2024-25 salaries. Orlando would take in slightly more salary using 2025-26 salaries and they would finish the deal over the first apron, which would make the deal illegal. RE: TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - SleepingHero - 06-15-2025 Underdog NBA (@UnderdogNBA) Players with 800 3PM on 40% 3FG since 2020-21: Desmond Bane Steph Curry Zach LaVine The Magic ranked last in 3PG and 3P% this past season. RE: TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - RoyTarpleysGhost - 06-15-2025 Good trade for both teams IMO. For Memphis, you're not even a contender so why pay your third best player that kind of money? Bane is due 4 years/$163 million. Jaren Jackson Jr is going into the last year of his deal and will be getting a big extension. For Orlando, Desmond Bane is exactly what they need to take that next step. RE: TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - cow - 06-15-2025 If Bane gets 4 FRP and a swap, Luka should have brought back just as many with Day-to-Davis. Nico's dumb ass got talked out a the second Laker's FRP that was on the table. RE: TRADE: ORL Gets Desmond Bane | MEM Gets KCP+Cole Anthony +4 FRPs - Chicagojk - 06-15-2025 I like the fit but it a lot to give up. Having four guys (I expect bane and Suggs start) who can all create is going to be tough. They really need Black to develop into a playoff caliber player. I think they need to upgrade center. They also need their recent draft picks to be able to be depth. Right now, I would not rate them as the favorite because about questions about depth and center, but that is a good team. Maybe really good if Paolo raises a level. Memphis was in a tough place. Good team but not a contender. They were also seeing three high salaries players. They have found great value in the draft so this gives them more swings in the draft. Potentially it gets them into star hunting if they desire in the future. Losing Bane is tough but they were probably looking as a good, not great team moving forward. Now tell me how strong your reaction would be, if the Mavs didn´t have Cooper Flagg coming in, and tell me again this lottery was one big coincidence. With literally every deal for the next decade this would have happened with an highly toxic atmosphere in the 5th biggest NBA market, Harrison under 24/7 personal security and an half-empty arena on top. Still like the trade for Orlando. Look at those Finals... Nobody cares despite great games. LA needs Luka and NBA needs Luka at LA. I don't really buy into the conspiracy theory stuff (no judgement if you do), but the NBA script writers certainly know how to keep me hooked. I think the easiest answer is that Nico is a fucking idiot (Thanks, Mark!) and when the franchise needed it most, and for the first time ever, we moved up in the lottery. We aren't out of the woods yet and we usually figure out a way to trip over our own dicks. But I also feel they gave up too much for Bane, who's a good shooter but not a great defender. Memphis has set itself up for other moves with all those picks. KCP is getting long in the tooth, but can still defend significantly. Anthony is a decent backup PG. I guess we'll have to see how things work out for both teams. |
