I share my concernes with Killer. I am not so much concerned about what happens before the new contract and I am pretty sure he will sign a new one. I am scared what happens when he gets his new contract

If J Will is correct, I don't blame Kyrie for wanting out at all. Can't fault a player for not agreeing to such a contract. It would also set a precedent for top players and they always refuse to do such a thing to protect each other, rightfully so.

I think the other important ‘learning’ from this is the offer was sub-$40mm and essentially two years.  Some national commentators have said 3 years gets this done.  I mentioned this weekend how much taking even Luka money ($40mm instead of $47mm) would help this team manage its Apron exposure.

It sounds like 3 years with a starting number of $40mm might get this done.  That could prove to be quite helpful this summer.

I don't know the numbers but J Will said the offer was 3 years and north of 140 million so approaching  close to 50 million per season.

That would be a HORRIBLE precedent for any player to establish - but Brooklyn thought they could get away with it because Kyrie would take the reputation hit

Thanks.  Yeah, I heard it wrong.  $140mm is a rounding up of his max extension with Brooklyn taken over 3 years (20% raise on current salary plus 8% raises after that).  That would have started at $43.8mm instead of the $46.9mm starting number he will be eligible for this summer (which is based on the cap at 35% rather than a raise off of his old salary).

The question we don’t have an answer to is was Kyrie willing to sign a full max 3 year with Brooklyn if they had offered it?  If so, can Dallas get him for that some number?  That is an $3mm discount off of his full max and even that seemingly small savings can make a difference to Dallas’s flexibility.

I think offering anything less than the max is the quickest way to get Kyrie's ire and something this team should actively avoid.

I'd rather be closer to the apron and have Kyrie trying his best not to nuke the franchise than to save some dollars and potentially risk the guy forcing his way to a team just because.

Wonder if SD/Bertans/2 FRPs was an option. That would have really kept this team more stabilized with DFS here still.

Woj repeating himself here again, affirming if the Mavs pay that Kyrie ends up in Dallas.

I see no way Kyrie isn't a Mav next season unless he just absolutely hates playing with Luka which could be a possibility. It's too early to say.

Kyrie went off in the ASG and set a Mavs record.

Gonna spam all the reporter tweets now.

I appreciate his level-headed, non-knee-jerk leadership style.

Kyrie went on twitch and streamed after the game last night.

He went through a lot of stuff. Some of it was incoherent rambles, most of it was an insightful look on how he views life and what's important to him.

I think Kyrie is a very intense person, but is also intentional and keen for emotional connection. He's an insightful dude, even if he can get deep down the rabbit hole in search for "truth".
