Yes we have his bird rights 5. it’s strategically important for us to not pay the tax next season. A max in-season extension would fit perfect almost. IMO, all our future firsts and tax paying years should be saved for the next big trade like what Cleveland just did(SGA, Dame etc). 6. This is a big question. I think Cuban would feel like he must after Brunson. In fact, i would rather have Wood over Brunson for the same money Brunson just got. It’s a bad year for a team to let a player reach FA. To sign Wood to a market value contract after the stellar season he’s about to have would require moving THJ and probably Bertans too. After two games Wood is already light years better at complementing Luka than JB ever was after years of trying to build on court chemistry. That's the great thing with Wood. Even his 16-point straight doesn't feel like he called his number way too often. Compare him with: JB - who usually needs to dribble a thousand times to take a shot. His play is more ways ISO than team play. KP - who needs to be force fed. Catch and shoot and ISO. THJ - who just shoots. Plays most often end with him. Kinda fun to watch who's the "Whipping Boy of the Week". I remember all the angsty discussions about how bad Trey Burke was, and how the team would be SO much better if they just cut him. Then Dwight Powell, who's been a favorite to hate for the past couple of years. Looks like Timmy is taking the lead now. Just let him have a couple of 30-point outings, where he's mostly responsible for big wins, and the noise will die down a bit. I wonder who's next? Bertans? It doesn't have to be a high-salary guy (remember Burke?). Maybe Hardy? Maybe we're still in the honeymoon stage, but definitely a bit of a Hardaway clone. He's awful team player on offense and he makes the Mavericks product awful watching him chuck outside of the flow of the offense. His teammates should be putting poo on the underside of his car door handle every day. Both belong in both groups! OG is an interesting case. I don't know if he is good enough to put us over the top by himself and I'm not sure he is somebody that can run the offense when Luka or Din are out, but he probably wouldn't cost our full package of picks. What do you think his cost would be? Two firsts? What do you think his cost would be? Two firsts? His cost depends on the return salary. That salary has to be attached to a player that the Raptors think will help in their goal to win another championship (if not Rozier, maybe Dinwiddie?). You’re right, where he stands now on the Raptors, he is not necessarily a put you over the top type player. I see him being stifled from making a jump there because of Siakam and now Barnes (and Fred too). I’m talking about clutch play. We can’t really know if he is a clutch player, cause in Tor, there are so many ahead of him in that pecking order. Here he COULD be a second option, kinda like Wood, on offense (and especially in the clutch), if he meshes well and he also plays great defense, so he’s hands down what Kidd would want. The actual play might have to be Siakam, but I’m not a fan of his age, nor star status (I think he’s thought of as more than he actually is). Which means he’s gonna take more to get than OG. Hardaway was part of the cost of trading for the failed experiment that was KP. He was a streaky scorer who seemed to improve with proximity to the rookie supernova from Slovenia. He didn't seem the same last season. At least he hadn't contributed much in the one area DAL counted on, scoring. Interesting that THJ got hurt, KP got traded, playing rotation got tighter and the Mavs looked like a contender. So I wonder if he'll get a modified KP treatment this fall. Dedicate some playing time, maybe run the occasional play and hope he puts up decent numbers leading up to the TDL. He has to realize that, without doing something spectacular, he's getting to an age that he's JAG. What sucks about all this is...THJ is loving this because of his inflated sense of being a bona-fide NBA scorer and wanting to ball-hog. He absolutely loves playing with 3rd lineup and feeling like he has the ok to shoot it every single time. Selfish, selfish player regardless. Horrible talent evaluation by Mavs, horrible second contract. Rotten egg smell will follow this franchise until this guy is gone. RE: THE CRUCIFIX: All Things Christian Wood | averaging 36 pts, 14 rbds per 36 mins - dirkfansince1998 - 10-24-2022 THJ had two seasons were he ranked among the ten best volume 3-point shooters in the league. That was a really valuable player for the Mavs and the reason for his contract extension. Now his role changed. The Mavs have a new scheme. And to make things even worse it seems like he lost his shooting touch. Doesn´t help that they are asking him to handle some of the bench creation duties. That´s just not his game. Not the first time that it happened to a shooter. Probably won´t be the last time. Duncan Robinson or our very own Davis Bertans would be other examples. But it won´t stop the trend. Elite shooters get paid. Spacing is more important than ever and there is a big difference between the Kleber´s or DFS´s of the world and guys like THJ (in 2019 and 2020). Well his green card to shoot should have been taken away. Hes a "le' me get mine right quick" offensive player. He hardly passes the ball and the offense is just so uninspiring when everyone on the floor knows dudes gonna shoot. Its beyond bad. This team and every team are better when guys are willing to pass and get others involved. THJs game is a dinosaur. Cut his minutes ffs. But I just couldn't take hearing your same take on THJ repeated in every post almost, in every thread, belaboring the very obvious point. I already get it. Just an FYI. Mavs produced the (at that point in time, surpassed in the next season) best offensive rating in league history with THJ in the starting five. On a team that wasn´t as talented as this years. All of it build around good spacing and high pick&roll with Luka + Powell (or KP, if he felt like it). THJ played a big role. Despite his lack of passing ability/vision and chucker mentality. He doesn´t need to be a versatile player if the one thing he used to do on an elite level makes up for it. |
