Quote:This week, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban addressed that topic.

“I think it’s happening less,” Cuban told NBA insider Steve Bulpett. “I think some of the old school guys are still in that mode, but the younger guys…

“I can’t comment on any one player, but you’re seeing some of the younger guys sign extensions with no player options.”

Quote:Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has signed a landmark five-year, $207 million supermax rookie extension, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal includes a player option in the final year, agent Bill Duffy of BDA Sports told ESPN on Monday.

The final season of Kristaps Porzingis' five-year, $158 million max contract with the Dallas Mavericks reportedly includes a player option, which could allow him to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023. Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic reported the update Friday.

Crazy that we Mavs fans have Luka (arguably the best player moving forward into the next decade) and cannot even be top 10 happy. Sad.

You were extremely unhappy with Luka pretty much all of last season, right?

I am OVER THE MOON happy with Luka being on the Mavs!

Within that happiness (which is not mutually exclusive), I have been frustrated that Luka has not been taking care of his body like an elite professional. I believe Luka's conditioning has really hampered the Mavs success the last two seasons compared to what it could have been with him in top shape. I think Luka's ceiling is top 3 all-time, even challenging for the GOAT (!!!). So I am going to root for him to get THERE and not settle for him barely tapping into his full potential.

But none of those sentiments takes away from the fact that I am a happy, happy, happy Mavs fan!

Success. Upside . And the Kings. Masochistic tendencies?

Mavs just made it to the WCF and have arguably the player with the most upside in the whole league. Mavs fans should be THRILLED!

I get the nuances of your Luka opinion. I was making a point.

There were quite a few people here (I was not one of them) who were upset with your criticism of Luka last season. I understood where you were coming from, and defended the position.

To me, your comment about those of us who are currently unhappy is just as ridiculous as when they called you a Luka hater.

I have been one of the most Mavs-positive people around here for the past several years. I am allowed to dislike the direction they are (apparently) taking this off-season, and frankly, I feel I’ve earned a little bit of benefit of the doubt by being right on the money with many of my opinions in recent years. I woke up today and felt pretty targeted, tbh. Implications that I’m “irrational” and worse - that I don’t understand BASIC basketball concepts.

I am thrilled about that. Not so much with the idea that the changes coming now are coming to the things I LIKED and thought were WORKING.

I am not talking about "currently unhappy"....I am referencing the study above. It is sad that Mavs fans are not top 10 happy overall.

My personal opinion. For the most part negative nancy predictions on this board have the highest hit rates. Especially when it comes to offseason moves and trade values. Easy to understand why.We all want the Mavs to succeed and hope for the best. Since I have joined the community we have talked ourselves into all kinds of reasons why player x/y/z will be great in Dallas and the hit rate is probably 1/4. That´s just how it goes.
Being called irrational or worse at this time of the year is pretty normal. Question is how many people will join the irrational crowd during the season.

This list pretty much confirms my suspicions that: 1. Mavs fans are unrealistically negative, and 2. anyone who self-identifies as a Kings fan is probably high.

Kings fans have had it rough since they got jobbed by the refs in the WCF.  Nothing but respect for hanging on since then.

It is probably connected to expectations. Mavs are acting like they are a big serious contender level team. They always build the level of excpectation of the fans while in reality they fail miserably every offseason and have won a playoff series one year since 2011. Pretty natural fans are not happy.

Kings on the other hand have no expectations. The team is not promising them stars every summer. So expectations are low and disapointment also.

As someone that frequently gets accused of being overly optimistic.. It has been difficult to find many positives with a free agency that includes:

1) Signing JaVale McGee
2) Re-signing Theo Pinson

Indeed.

"How we gonna fuck this up" sounded like a statement of fact than a question.

After i see the Kings name on the list i stopped reading.

Let's be realistic, if it wasn't for Brunson situation, we would be the 1 on the list, but i still have us in top 10.

I agree with Luka challenging the goat, but i think main questions there is, can Dallas provide Luka supporting cast needed to build the dynasty. And if Cuban is willing to pay that.

Even if i agree with you about shape, speaking in the goat converastion i think main check points are:

1. Winning multiple championships without creating own superteams.
2. Being loyal to a franchise who drafted you (that's the check).
3. Core of the roster creating your own players and players who put franchise on the first place and player himself in the first place. (Currently the check, despite Brunson leaving).

Just implement FIBA rules. Cannot be that difficult. Two FTs and possession.
