RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - KillerLeft - 07-08-2022 (07-08-2022, 01:09 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Next one that mentions powder, Giannis or Jokic in the same sentence should get a life time ban. Compared to my rants during those years this years free agency rage was harmless. I have a feeling that we're months away from another PR campaign based on the same, exact concept. Hope I'm wrong. RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - MarkAguirreWrathofGod - 07-08-2022 I agree Killer Left. The West is going to be absolutely brutal. Connolly moved to Minny along with Gobert, Ainge is in Utah and they have a young enthusiastic owner, Durant will likely find his way to Phoenix, Memphis is well run from owner to gym to coach. LAC have Ballmer and LA. Lakers are the Lakers. I already ran down the West teams and how they all improved or punted (SA and Utah) in another thread. I’m honestly still sort of shocked that Cuban drew a line in the sand on spending with Brunson. He may have left anyway; we just can’t afford to let players/assets walk for nothing. Sometimes the mere appearance of being cheap is almost as bad as the real thing. I mentioned before that Desmond Bane and Mikhail Bridges trolled us on Twitter for letting Brunson walk. That’s in part because Cuban went cheap. If we offered more $ and made him feel super valued and he walked then that’s different. Utah and SA, run by shrewd operators, sent out stars(and Royce O’Neal) for a boatload of picks and punted on the next couple seasons. They’ll bank on being part of the next wave after the current crop of contenders—minus Dallas, Denver and Memphis— age out. The Mavs are in the precarious position of having perhaps the shallowest asset pool of the West contenders and only one star. Thankfully we have THE star. Denver is most analogous to us with Jokic but then they have two potential Robins. Hope I'm wrong. Had the same thought when I saw the rumors that mentioned a 18 month / 2 year plan. Lining up contracts to create capspace in 2024. RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - Mavs2021 - 07-08-2022 They have no long-term plans. It´s always the same 12 months cycle; short-term/best team possible next season plan. If they really had an 18 months plan, Dinwiddie + THJ would be in Brooklyn right now, Bertans and Irving would be in Los Angeles and Westbrook in Dallas. That trade has everything all the teams desire, except that the 18 months plan doesn´t exist. Also always cracks me up, when people say capspace is useless. No what´s useless is how the Mavs use it. Always targeting players out of their reach, that don´t want to play here. Always focusing on old/roleplayers that have zero re-trade value or upside. Never selling capspace for future 1st round picks (part of that strategy also involves not being very cheap). The Spurs just got three 1st round picks for a former 29th pick. That likely means the Spurs have received more first round picks in one single trade than the Cuban Mavs have in 20 years. Seriously I can´t even think of a single 1st round pick we have received. No what´s useless is how the Mavs use it. I agree with this, but how Dallas will use it (based on lots of recent history) is very relevant to how much optimism and excitement we can muster over the prospect of it. It doesn't really do anyone any good to be this angry about how the team operates. I'm extremely disappointed with the Brunson situation, mostly because it was very clearly a failure based on their own plans. The act of comparing what their plans are to what we, individually or as a group, believe their plans should be, is as hollow and pointless as anything I could possibly imagine. We have literally zero power over the situation. If I felt the way you do, I would've stopped being a Mavs fan a long, long time ago. You don't have power over Cuban, but you certainly do have control over how you spend your free time and mental energy. RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - MarkAguirreWrathofGod - 07-08-2022 Scott4Mavs41– as far as SnT goes, not sure what side of that fence I fall on; I can see the argument from both sides. I will say that our leverage has decreased immensely, unless, as you said, we use tampering threats as a bargaining tool. Is THAT legal though? Seems like just a different type of rule circumvention. I may be way off base though. What’s most concerning to me is that we were hearing that Brunson was a near lock to return and then the Knicks clearing space almost seemed to take us by surprise. That doesn’t speak well to Nico’s preparedness. If the MBT knew in advance that Cuban had a ceiling in mind to offer JB and didn’t expect the Knicks to be able to clear that much cap without a SnT with Dallas and MBT were in fact caught off guard when they did, they didn’t play their cards very well. The variable, in my eyes, was Cuban not budging on his #. JB’s camp knew the offer and confidently cut us out. We may still get a SnT or maybe we will find out there was nothing we could have done to keep JB. Personally, I would bluffed them on our willingness to go up to 5yrs-30m and make the Knicks sweat it. Maybe that wasn’t an option or they didn’t want to do JB like that. His camp sure didn’t seem to have any such qualms about playing hardball. They got their man, and will likely have no lasting repercussions. Trivia incoming... Because the last time it happened was in in the early 90s. In 1992 the Mavs traded an aging Rolando Blackman to the Knicks in exchange for a 1995 first round pick (Loren Meyer). In the same year the Mavs received another first round pick (1994/Tony Dumas) from the Warriors for Rodney McCray. 30 year anniversary. I wonder if this is some kind of record. RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - MarkAguirreWrathofGod - 07-08-2022 Didn’t we trade for the pick that became Devin Harris? RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 07-08-2022 Ya we traded Antawn Jamison for the 5th overall and Stackhouse. We also traded for Roddy on draft night. RE: TRADE & FA: DAL likes Thybulle? | IND close to offering Ayton? - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 07-08-2022 We also bought the draft pick that became Dojo aka Wade 2.0 and I believe that Jared Cunningham was part of a trade that netted us Jae Crowder (for Tyler Zeller maybe?) Like, they moaned about it for MONTHS. Just goes to show how dug in people get about these draft prospects. Irrationally so.
