RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: UTA shopping Gobert | Ayton out? | LaVine "in play" | MT staying? - michaeltex - 06-14-2022 (06-12-2022, 02:23 PM)Kammrath Wrote: https://twitter.com/PaulGarciaNBA/status/1536065658575892484 But SAS only has $82.5MM on the books right now, why would they need to clear any space? Not sure SAS is the organization to max out Ayton anyways. I like Josh Green. But he’s not worth saying no to Miles. Unlocked picks sounds great. If you can use em to trade for a guy like Miles. July vs. June? Come on, man. Get it done whenever you can. If Turner is healthy enough to risk big bucks on, then any non-core pieces it takes should be on the table. I feel like the talk of Turner's three point shooting is a little inflated. He does not take a lot of 3s and over the last 3 years he has averaged under 34% from three. Its not an issue of shot quality either as he has averaged less than 34% on wide open threes meaning there is not a good reason to believe that pairing him with Luka will improve that number significantly. Myles is not the kind of player I am looking to get with unlocked picks. A two way wing should be the primary target for that. Turner is a good player, and a very good defensive player, but he is often injured, does not address our rebounding issues, does not have the game to punish teams for going small, and like Gobert some of his defensive impact can be mitigated by 5 out. He is not the guy I want to burn our future assets for. However, and I'm not trying to argue, the point where we turn away from Turner, to me, means that we're turning away from anything remotely resembling the type of center 55%-60% of this board thinks we desperately need. At least, that's how I see it. For the record, I'm fine with that. Then again, I'm still so shocked by Powell's playoff run that I'm wondering if he was injured. I would've thought he'd have been MUCH better against PHX and GSW. I, myself, would be fine trying to improve with another player like him, not going anywhere near a more traditional big. But, of all the traditional(ish) guys, I think Turner is my favorite. The personality and injury issues do worry me some, however. I think it will be hard to get a handle on what will go down because there are so many moving parts. With so few teams tearing it down to the studs and instead trying to rebuild in the fly, player-capital is arguably more important than draft-capital. Atlanta has a ton of player capital. Seems they control the board as the team who can pay the most. Then everyone scrambles from there. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: UTA shopping Gobert | Ayton out? | LaVine staying? | MT out? - Kammrath - 06-14-2022 (06-14-2022, 10:56 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: player-capital is arguably more important than draft-capital If this is true (and I think you are probably right) I think the Mavs should capitalize on this by grabbing draft capital during this time when its value is lower. I have talked about picks #14-16 all potentially being available because CLE, ATL, and CHA don't really need more rookies and want to capitalize on the current parity in the NBA to try and compete. But what is the current value of those picks in the NBA when teams would prefer established players? If Mark Williams falls past 13 then we should try for it. I just don't know what assets we have to realistically get there. I know LOM through out the scenario of taking on Hayward so CHA can avoid the tax. I think it was THJ, Powell, #26 for Hayward and #15. Seems highly unlikely Cha would do that. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: UTA shopping Gobert | Ayton out? | LaVine staying? | MT out? - Fuerza1 - 06-14-2022 How about we keep ours assets then wait for Myles Turner to be a free agent next summer, and sign him then? Smart move would be to see how he bounces back from his injury next season. He's been trending down in recent years, not ideal for a big man playing professional basketball. Didn't we just recover from the Porzingis flop? Trust in Nico. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: UTA shopping Gobert | Ayton out? | LaVine staying? | MT out? - mvossman - 06-14-2022 (06-14-2022, 11:59 AM)Fuerza1 Wrote: How about we keep ours assets then wait for Myles Turner to be a free agent next summer, and sign him then? Assuming we sign Brunson, its really hard to see how we are going to have the cap space to make that kind of signing. We have to do something about this center position this offseason, and if its a young option we may not even be interested in messing with Turner. I'm not sure why we should trust in Nico yet? I'm not convinced he is running the show (I feel like Cuban still has a heavy hand) but even if he is, the only narrative that could give you any confidence in him is that he had little to do with last offseason, but was the driving force in dumping KP afterwards. I'm going to need to see a lot more before I can comfortably trust in Nico. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: UTA shopping Gobert | Ayton out? | LaVine staying? | MT out? - mvossman - 06-14-2022 (06-14-2022, 11:11 AM)Kammrath Wrote: If this is true (and I think you are probably right) I think the Mavs should capitalize on this by grabbing draft capital during this time when its value is lower. What asset do we have that we could trade for one of those picks? You could argue one of those picks is worth more than the package we are talking about offering for Turner (seems like Turner to Charlotte is the mostly likely scenario if he is moving). The only player asset on our team (other than obviously Luka) that might be worth that is Dorian. I don't even know if we can do that trade after the extension, but I would have no interest in that. Given that we are about to be in the tax, I don't think we are a particularly good candidate to take on another bad contract either. |
