I agree he's the player "type" most needed (at least before Brunson walked, not so sure it's the biggest hole now) but his contract not being a problem is kind of your opinion. I have a feeling the Mavs wouldn't agree. He has been available for years at this point with no takers.

Your starting lineup would be Wood/Harris/Dorian/Bullock/Doncic.  That would be elite offensively and a ton of size/switchability on defense.  Your bench is Powell/Maxi/Thybulle/Din/Dragic.  That it is a solid group.  Spacing would be limited, but you are mixing and matching with the starting unit.  We would also be in a much better shape from a long term cap standpoint.

Harris is a near 40% 3pt shooter and can create his own shot quite effectively. Dinwiddie is streaky I agree. Dragic should be more consistent.

If you bring in Thybulle I don't see the need for both Green and Frank, and I'd probably move both for space or another ball handler (Tyus Jones, Aaron Holiday?)

It’s a no-brainer for me dawg

I´m not even a fan of Harris, but there is no trade that includes the words:

Bertans | for | two years left | no picks involved

that is bad for Dallas.

RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: JC & Dejounte on the move? | DAL likes Thybulle? - KillerLeft - 06-30-2022

I don't know why we do this to ourselves.

You guys really expect a team so worried about the LT they won't re-sign Brunson, their own homegrown player, to bring in a guy who makes $40 million for the next two years?

I think there is a 0% chance that happens, personally. I know you guys hate Bertans' contract, but I think the Mavs believe it represents an improvement from the Porzingis contract, and you'd have them jump right back into a similar situation. I admit that Harris would fit better than Porzingis did, and trust me - I see what you guys are thinking with the trade. I just don't think it would happen.

This trade isn't happening but only because PHI likely has zero interest. The Mavs would do cartwheels to get off the $36 million owed to THJ/Bertans per year for the next 3 years and bring in two quality rotation players at the same time.

I disagree, but we'll never know for sure, because this won't happen. Can't prove a negative, I suppose.

But here's one: I think the entire premise of shopping THJ this summer is based on the assumption (by the Mavs and by us) that Brunson was returning. If he doesn't, I believe THJ will not even be traded. Sure, anyone is available in the right deal, but at that point I think he's likely to be the starter next to Luka (VERY likely) and I doubt they'll find a deal they feel offsets that need.

I agree with this! It's either/or in my mind at this point, but not both.

RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: JC & Dejounte on the move? | DAL likes Thybulle? - KillerLeft - 06-30-2022

I hope I'm wrong, and there's something big coming, but what I expect at this point:

--some type of trade involving either Powell or Bertans, possibly using Green as a sweetener of some type, that either removes their salary completely or drastically reduces it in order to get under the tax. I think the best possible version of this trade could bring back a wing or forward they believe they can play, but it probably won't be a player people here will be excited about.

--a Dragic signing, possibly for much more salary than we're expecting, to the point where people here are surprised and don't see it as a positive.

--a small signing (like McGee, but not him, necessarily) as a backup big. They will give multiple years, just like WCS, and people won't like that, probably.

--go to war with our boys in blue

I think we're all going to see soon that the best outcome for this off season, by far, would've been re-signing Brunson.

RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: JC & Dejounte on the move? | DAL likes Thybulle? - Okstate819 - 06-30-2022

ESPN puts Colin Sexton's projected salary range at only $12-14 million. That's a steal if locked in on a 3-4 yr deal. Think of this as the redo on the Brunson extension. Of course we would have to get in the mix via s&t with CLE and not sure why they wouldn't match considering he's a RFA.

I agree with all of this except the first one.  Green is not near enough to get off of Bertans, and I would be pissed if they send out Green just to avoid tax on one year of Powell (who might have value at the TDL as an expiring).

So this post changes the trade discussion from “would you do it” to “will it happen”.

Trade proposals by fans can’t have much expectation of their trade actually happening. Especially not the exact proposal. The point at first is to discuss how much peers would actually do the deal which leads to balancing out the deal to make sure it is even. In the end, maybe we talk about whether or not the team would do it.

You personally may not like talking out that process, but there are fans that do and skipping to the end like this doesn’t help working through it all.

I hope that doesn’t come across as harsh as I’m not trying to be.

Sure, maybe they use a different sweetener. I'm not trying to be specific, I'm trying to get into what I believe their head space might be.

The point of the first one is that I believe Brunson leaving takes the "shop THJ" maneuver almost completely off the table. And, that I bet they're now going to want to reduce payroll a little, if at all possible.

Folks have always been concerned about Brunson fit due to defense.  Sexton makes Brunson look like Thybulle.  Can't imagine we would have interest in that, and don't really see an avenue to get there anyways.
