I'm gonna be sick.

If they give up Green for Kyrie "I Love Documentaries" Irving I'm going to riot.
Think of that in terms of newly acquired best friend Kyrie and Green and DFS still on the team in the offseason where KD asks out of Brooklyn and we just got all our picks back.

Green and DFS are going to be in Brooklyn winning a ring with KD on team rejoicing that they're finally out from under the weight of Irving's bone-crushing bad character.

I'd rather give "swift kick in the balls" a max deal, guaranteed for 5 years! I'd rather have my balls kicked every day for 5 years straight than endure a single game with Irving wearing our Mavs blue.

RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - F Gump - 02-03-2023

I have to think that a Mavs trade for Kyrie would only happen if
1 he agreed to an extend-and-trade, in which he adds 2 years (at about 39M avg), so that it's not a rental
... for all the desire by Irving to get a max deal, it's hard to imagine where he can go to get that offer in free agency, because of the massive amount of cap room required ... so the team inquiring about him in trade needs to use the leverage of the moment and get a longer commitment than 2 months
2 the Mavs give up SD + THJ + an asset
... imo Mavs would not add an ongoing commitment to Irving without moving off of some longer-term money from their payroll sheet -- ie, THJ's future $34M (or the combo of Bertans-McGee, which is about the same total future dollars).

If the Mavs got ALL of that, I can see them adding a future 1st with some protections.

The challenges are
1 BKN is in the running and wants to win. Now. Almost certainly they will expect at least 1 player who will make them win now. They can't afford to screw KD.
2 LAL is a real threat, because they have matching expiring salary (Westbrook) and side assets (the future 1sts) to offer. But that combo doesn't satisfy KD now. Part of the LAL equation is that they can't give Irving a max salary offer in free agency in the summer (assuming they have both LBJ and AD) -- then again, hard to see where someone else can (or would) either.

Before this year I wouldn't trade anything for Kyrie, but that was before, back when we had standards. Now, I'd still be hesitant, but I'd do it. They can have one of Dinwiddie or Wood and they have to take one of THJ, Bertans, or McGee. Green and DFS are off limits. Picks are off limits. The deal they made up on ESPN (Dinwiddie, Bullock, and McGee) would be perfect. Sign Kyrie to a 2 year extension. If he wants 4/200 he can pound sand. If those conditions are met, then I'll take him. If not, they can take Westbrook from the Lakers and like it.

So you're not in favor of trading for the bad apple, then. Got it. You're going on a list of the good ones.

Which is why I think BKN should be the one adding assets. The Mavs have all sorts of win-now players that might fit well around KD. Make BKN give up picks or walk away. That would be my stance.

What has he done that has made the Clips want to jettison him off so abruptly?

 Probably the combo of
1 Very high usage (over 27%) when he's on the floor
2 Very inefficient results from that high usage (49.8% TS%, which is in the very bottom tier in NBA)
3 Not especially good on defense either
4 Injured several weeks ago and not sure if/when he might be available again, or how that impairment (ab strain) might diminish his play going forward

RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - ItsGoTime - 02-03-2023

Contract extension requires BKN paying 15% of Kyrie’s contract, that’s roughly $5.4M. I can’t imagine BKN paying that AND taking the hit on player value. If MC pays that, there really can’t be any more MC won’t pay up calling out, it would basically always have been about the reason for paying up.

As far as what I want? Doesn’t matter that I agree with KL about the person, it looks like this is VERY close to a situation of he’s ours to lose and this is a situation that MC might make sure he doesn’t.

RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - Mavs2021 - 02-03-2023

It´s showcase day. Just looking around the games:

Hayward 12 pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts (4th)
McDaniels 14 pts, 3 rebs, 4 stls (4th)
Saric 8 pts 8 rebs 3 asts (3rd)
Bamba 8 pts, 2 rebs, 1 ast, 1 stl, 50% 3pt shooting (HT)

Why can´t we just make some moves to improve our rotation and set us up for the future. These moves won´t cost us a fortune.

I’m in a similar place.  Two years ONLY, which is accomplished by the extend and trade.  Minimum outgoing assets and some of what leaves has to be unwanted salary.  I’m not sure Brooklyn cares that much about our pick except to use it to get a better player.  I might give the better player to keep the pick and perhaps get a pick in the process (DFS).  The goal would be to use that pick with our own to do a second deal.  If we are going to do the Irving deal for this season and the next two, we might as well go all the way.

I hope the Mavs are smart enough to demand games played and playoff incentives to that 2 year contract!!!

I´d rather have

Dinwiddie, Bullock, McGee to Nets
Westbrook, Lakers unprotected 1st to Mavs
Kyrie to Lakers

Use the Lakers 1st in a future trade.

I'm done with the Mavs period if they trade for Kyrie. Fortunately Luka will demand out pretty soon after that so I'll get to enjoy cheering for his new team.

Yep. And I bet Wood is also rooting for a Kyrie trade, as going all-in now probably makes it easier for Dallas to commit to his extension, too.

The team that trades for him is going to give him a 4 year max. That's what he wants, that's the point of the trade request, and someone is going to offer it.

The team that talks themselves into that will be willing to pay for him...a Green-level guy or better, a DFS-level guy,  a 1st or 2, plus what it takes to trade match. They'll talk themselves into it because it's such a "cheap" price for a "superstar".

If that team is the Mavericks, we're all going to be in Hell for the rest of Luka's time in Dallas, which will be much more brief than we might've hoped beforehand.

The problem is that the Mavs also want to win now. IMO They wouldn't be likely to consider tossing in players they would still need once Kyrie were to be added. To me, that's where the inclusion of THJ could work, who in theory might be seen as a helpful player to fill the hole created by Kyrie's absence.

FWIW we've seen THJ seem to become a much better player on defense this year. So in theory the building blocks are there for him, to be an okay defender and a productive scorer, if everything falls just right.

I can see the deal expanded even further than that, but I think any expanded version would still end up one where both teams felt they had a positive result for now as well as heading forward.

I can see why BKN would ask for DFS not THJ. Duh. But if I'm the Mavs, for multiple reasons (not just player value, but contracts, rotations and minutes, and so on) I have no interest at that point.

You guys are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to positive in your trade analysis. It´s not that I don´t think the proposals are fairly level-headed, BUT THIS IS CUBAN. It´s going to be much worse.

Probably at least DFS + Dinwiddie and a three year max extension for Irving with a player option after year two and after 9-12 months he demands a trade threatening to opt out.

RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - Okstate819 - 02-03-2023

If they want DFS that’s the only “asset” they get. No Green, no unprotected picks.

Kyrie, Royce O’neal (I know not ideal but we’ll need a wing defender) for Spence, DFS, Bertans. Perfect money match. Maybe throw in a protected pick.
