RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - Ghost of Podkolzin - 01-29-2023 How are any of the trades using Wood or Din making us better? Turner or Collins for Wood: I'd take Wood over either. FVV or D'Angelo for Din: this is just swapping pieces. I'll take Din. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Any trade involving Wood is a sign they have realized they screwed up with Brunson... so getting something rather than nothing makes them better in 23-24. Might agree with you on Dinwiddie but... If summer of '24 is the FA bonanza then getting off that money is a sign of long term planning rather than reactionary fixes to roster building. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Well, agreed you get something out of Wood if you can't sign him, but WTF if we can't sign him? Paying him the max allowed is still a bargain. Ya, I trust cap space and FAs flocking here like I trust Trump to store my important documents. When has dry powder and be FA signing EVER work here? Again, look at Milwaukee... Giannis - Drafted Middleton - Trade from Heaven Holiday - Great Trade Lopez - FA Signing You'll get Lopez like FA signings If you build an outstanding core of Luka (drafted), Wood (Trade from Heaven), and Din (great trade). Add Green to that and you have this core: Point - Luka, NEED Guard - Dinwiddie, THJ Guard - Green, Hardy Forward - NEED, Maxi Center - Wood, Powell DFS, Frank, 2 FRPs for OG. Bullock, 1 FRP for Quickley, Reddish, Sims Point - Luka, Quickley Guard - Din, THJ Guard - Green, Hardy Forward - OG, Maxi, Reddish Center - Wood, Powell, Sims RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? He makes the exact same as Eric Gordon, so the same package being offered to Houston could work for Dallas.Similar to the idea above, the Pelicans were at one point reportedly willing to pay 90m for THJ. This was before they traded for CJ, but maybe they would have interest in a Graham/Temple for THJ swap. They’d have to send draft picks, but you may be able to squeeze a first out of them. Trade also allows you to turn it into a 3 team deal to swap McGee for Noel. DAL: Graham/Temple/Noel/draft compensation NOP: THJ DET: McGee/2nd RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? So we're going to arbitrarily choose who Cuban will and will not pay based upon Brunson signing with NYK without talking to the Mavs? That's just plain foolish and mental masturbation. You go down that road, you can't even discuss trades, including those you deem are just to save money. I'm not trying to tell you who Cuban will and will not pay with absolute certainty. I'm saying money is clearly a concern for him and we have to keep that in mind when talking about re-signing or extending guys like Green and Wood. I can't find it now, but there was a chart showing total money spent on payroll over the last 5 or so seasons. Dallas was dead last. Maybe Cuban would have made a competitive offer to Brunson if they weren't in luxury tax hell. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? As a fan, THJ is spent money. So the focus should be either keeping him or upgrading him. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - Mikelorenzo - 01-30-2023 no one will attach assets to get THJ..unless you are getting Duncan Robinson back...I think the KP trade is recent enough to fool yourself like that.. saving money for the next low season has no benefit, it just makes us worse...in theory the plan is to be FA24 players... unfortunately we are 1.5/2 years away (if we do things right) from being relevant... Personally I would sink this season and keep the selection this year. ..in the Luka era we have been excellent in the draft.. Luka / Brunson (absolute steal 2 round).. Green (more than decent for a 1 afternoon).. Hardy (soon, but too talented for a 2) RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - omahen - 01-30-2023 (01-30-2023, 02:56 AM)Mikelorenzo Wrote: no one will attach assets to get THJ unless you are getting Duncan Robinson back I tend to agree. He had a stretch when he was good this season, but unfortunately that was a while ago. I am not sure I want another one of bottom five bad contracts with several years remaining next to Bertans and McGee, even if we get a decent asset with it. The alternative could be the LeVert idea, but even in that case I think THJ has higher long term value for Mavs than LeVert. Long term value from the perspective of salary available for trades. LeVert will not change anything drastically for this team in this season and might be gone in the summer. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - IamDougieFresh - 01-30-2023 Once again, I have smoked crack. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? D'Angelo? | TDL Feb 9 - Jason Terry - 01-30-2023 In regard to Cuban spending i think we have to look at the bigger picture. Early in his time he was a big spender and it didn’t help all that much, but he did it. It was obviously not worth to spend big in Dirks later years or Lukas first years. We currently are top 10 this year and are a taxpayer with a ridiculous payroll for what the product actually is. Cuban more than anything loves to be right and has a lot of pride. The only Mavericks thing that matters is keeping Luka Doncic. We only have him guaranteed for 3 more years after this one. If we avoid the tax next season, we can re-sign Green and Hardy and whoever else in the following seasons and pay the tax and avoid the repeater penalties. This is his best path to keep Luka and avoid being an embarrassment to DFW It’s strategically important for us to be under ~$165 million for next season specifically. We need to max out the talent under that number and Hardaway makes more sense than anybody to be dealt by any means necessary KP style In regard to salary matching in a big trade. 1) Dinwiddie and Bullock are better salary matching players for the next 2 trade cycles 2) Bertans and Mcgee leave us with contracts for matching down the road too……and we get all our picks in a few months The only alternative to this plan is FA a year from July. We pay tax next season and go under and get a Sabonis. Anybody want to go back to plan powder? Another factor in this is our RSN just went bankrupt and one of the mavs biggest revenue streams is in jeopardy. This is a business. That one thing is such a big deal it threatens to separate all major sports from cable television in a permanent way. Something like $8 billion in local sports rights payments are up in the air in a few months |
