RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Reddish? | TDL Feb 9 - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 01-25-2023 (01-25-2023, 10:34 AM)omahen Wrote: I don't think they have any interest at all. They got Bogdanovic in same role, who is a much better player. I agree that Bojan is the better player but I don't really see them as the same role outside of the fact that they can both shoot. If Burks left Detroit I would see a world where Bojan and Hardaway play together just fine. Obviously all that matters though is how Detroit would look at it. If Ainge calls about making a trade, let it go to voicemail... It is quite remarkable even outside of draft capital, Ainge came out well in those trades. It sucks to lose Mitchell, but he probably picked up an all star in Lauri. We will see about Sexton. Agbaji is a rookie who at least has prototype size and athleticism for a guard. For Goebert, he wound up with Kessler, who looks great; Vanderbilt, who seems like a guy every team wants: Beasley, who could be moved again; and Beverly, who has already been moved. The draft capital is probably better with the Timberwolves. But despite the Cavs looking real nice moving forward, it is probably not bad strategy to bet against the Timberwolves and Cavs. Maybe he sold low on Bogdanovich. Ainge did have a history with Olynyk. Looking at that package though, it is sort of sad we probably couldn't match that without including Green. I wonder if we tried though to get involved? I have two words for you: WILL. HARDY. He has made Ainge's player acquisitions look brilliant, because Hardy is a brilliant coach. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Reddish? | TDL Feb 9 - HoosierDaddyKid - 01-25-2023 Any interest in Will Barton? He's totally out the Wizards rotation, and there is talk of a buyout. Has his game fell off that bad? Reddish? | TDL Feb 9 - DanSchwartzgan - 01-25-2023 The Detroit Pistons writer for The Athletic did an interesting piece. He took Sham's list of interested Bojan teams (Cleveland, Dallas, Milwaukee, NO, LAL and Toronto) and contacted the writer for those teams and asked for the offer they could envision the team they cover making. Below is Tim Cato's offer and the Piston's writers response. BTW, he didn't take anyone's offer. LAL and Toronto were the only teams offering first rounders. LAL had junk and a protected 27 first (too far away for Detroit GM). Toronto had junk, Boucher and a lottery protected 23 pick that is also lottery protected in 24 and converts to 2nds. The Detroit writer thought there was too great a chance that it would end up being seconds. So, not really better than the Dallas offer below: Mavericks receive: Bogdanović Pistons receive: Tim Hardaway Jr., 2025 and 2027 second-round pick Tim Cato, Mavericks beat writer: This offer is the most, I believe, the Mavericks would be willing to offer, and I don’t think Detroit stays on the phone long after hearing it. Dallas has a real reluctance to part with first-round picks right now — they want to have them all available after this year’s pick conveys to New York — and I don’t believe they feel Bogdanović is enough of an improvement for the Mavericks to consider attaching one. He’d help them, no doubt, but the 33-year-old isn’t the decisive move they seek for a deal where first rounders are included. If Detroit can’t find a suitor offering a first-round pick in return, Dallas would be happy to send them a couple seconds along with Hardaway, whose contract is declining somewhat more favorably with the same number of years as Bogdanović’s. But, again, this doesn’t feel like a realistic option for either side. Analysis: Mr. Cato is correct. I’d happily take his call, but I’d be trying to find a way to quickly get off the phone after hearing it. I like Hardaway Jr., don’t get me wrong, but I’d much rather have Bogdanović — or at least have him going into the offseason when I can again entertain other proposals. This just isn’t enough of a return for me. Hardaway, 30, isn’t a spring chicken himself, and, if I were the Pistons, I’d rather keep Bogdanović and try for LeVert this summer, rather than trade Bogdanović to get Hardaway and then have no need for LeVert. Appreciate the call, sir, but I’m going to see who is on the other line… RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I find this line interesting because it means that at least the Pistons beat writers don't see Hardaway and Bojan as a redundancy and would be interested in pairing them. Which kind of goes back to Hardaway for Nerlens/Burks... RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Thomas is out of the Nets rotation and Seth is a little redundant in when everyone is healthy. Mavs get a shooter (good free throw shooter) and a young lottery ticket. Nets get a bigger wing as they gear up to go against The Greek Freak, Tatum, Butler, and Harden in the playoffs. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I haven’t given much thoughts to Noel and Burks. On initial thought, they don’t do much for me. I have no idea if Noel can be a productive center any longer. Certiqinly would not want him at 10 million next year. Burks is ok. Maybe a better fit than Hardaway…not sure though. I think I would rather hold on to Hardaway. It scares me to death that the Heat want to move Lowry. He certainly has not looked good in Miami. But I would strongly consider a Hardaway and McGee trade for Lowry. I have no doubt Miami would get good production out of both….McGee will suddenly learn how to play again. Dallas gets a guard who will look to push the pace, be a pest to other teams and not afraid of big moments. But he may be done. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I think Mavs need to stay well over the cap and nail some trades. Based on the mistakes from past years they should actually stay hugely in tax to correct them, imho. Without that, I am very sceptical about their chances. This to me is the magic answer. Paying the tax will suck for Mark, but it is an avenue to get out of this mess. Luka leaving is very real if Mark doesn't fix this soon. Use the tax as an avenue to get out of this. Until we get better assets, I have a hard time seeing a magic bullet. Timmy is probably the best player, but Burks might be a better fit and Noel might be worth a peek given our current depth issues. It definitely makes sense from a contract standpoint. The other part of that trade was Dorian + first for Bogi and Bey. I have no interest in that. If we could do Timmy + McGee for Lowry it would be a no brainer. Cleans up the cap for 24, gets the McGee taste out of the mouth and adds needed playmaking and defense. I doubt Miami would be willing to do this. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins?
