RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - F Gump - 06-22-2022 (06-22-2022, 06:15 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Does it? I think they just gave him away. The pick package is sellable to fans, but fairly junky as to real value. As to the cap room, that's not a high value, to say you'd rather have air. In theory it represents value, and in advance of free agency it looks like huge value -- but in real life, it just tends to give you the opportunity to considerably overpay for 2nd-tier players. That's where I think it ends up in this case. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - Jason Terry - 06-22-2022 I think capspace is underestimated. Same in the Wood and Grant deals. The players(or lack of) in trades don’t matter nearly as much in most cases than the 1) picks and 2) salary swap. This is a league with a cap and salary matching. Only a few teams even have above MLE space. It’s a smart move if it’s used wisely RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - MarkAguirreWrathofGod - 06-22-2022 I think Jerami Grant being a FA and eligible for a huge extension 4yr-112m plays a part too. Maybe Portland was more comfortable with that setup? Maybe there was more mutual interest than with other potential destinations? Interested to see what direction Portland goes with pick 7 now. Will Grant, team opted Hart and re-signed Simons and Nurk and drafting at 7 be enough to keep Dame happy? Have t think he pushed for Grant deal. I don’t see them anywhere near contender status, even if they moved pick 7 for another starter. Not sure what the endgame is. If Sharpe and Daniels are both there they might could a nice package to move down. Dort, OKC pick in the teens and future top 4 protected pick? Presti has been building up his war chest for moments such as this. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - Jason Terry - 06-22-2022 Think about it from a business or owner point of view as well. Would you rather have $20.2 more million dollars or would you rather pay that in salary for the season that just ended? That’s a big deal. Not even factoring in the saving against the cap for this upcoming season RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - dirkfansince1998 - 06-22-2022 We have talked about Detroit and Grant. What about Portland. I don´t see how this trade it going to make a difference for them. They are only delaying the inevitable rebuild. Paying future assets for 1-2 more treadmill seasons. Even if Lillard gets back to his former level (a big IF) they don´t have the talent to compete with the best teams in the west. They have significant flexability now this off season to facilitate more deals. They could certainly be a 5-8 seed if Lillard is 100% back with this squad. PG - Lillard SG - Hart SF - Anonoby PF - Grant C - Nurkic 6th man - Simons They’ve always been flawed defensively around Lillard. This version of Portland would arguably be better than the best Dame/CJ teams of the last 5 years. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - MarkAguirreWrathofGod - 06-22-2022 If Portland lands OG and re-signs their 3 FA they have something interesting going. Part of the problem is they gave all their depth in the deadline deals. Nance would really help that roster as a switchable big. Keon Johnson probably not ready to help yet. Nas Little got hurt right? Not sure when he’s back. They’re also spending a ton of $ if they add OG and give Grant a new deal. Not to mention filling out the rest of the roster. To get to that outcome, the most likely possibility for OG to POR would be OG ..... for ..... 7 + Bledsoe (with his guarantee increased to just enough to match, or to full guarantee, depending on TOR's intentions) Does that look like something that would satisfy TOR? It depends on whether Masai/Webster see a “star” that falls to 7. What if they think Sharpe is a go to scorer to build around with Barnes? OG maybe wanting out too may influence their thinking to get something done sooner than later. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - F Gump - 06-22-2022 In theory, you could ratchet down the guarantee to Bledsoe, and slide another small salary player or two into the mix, but not sure there's any bottom of the POR roster pieces they'd want. RE: TRADE & FA RUMORS: NYK clearing space for JB? | ATL trading JC Thurs? - dirkfansince1998 - 06-22-2022 (06-22-2022, 08:17 PM)MarkAguirreWrathofGod Wrote: FGump: it’s close but that Bledsoe $ is tough to swallow. OG maybe wanting out too may influence their thinking to get something done sooner than later. Anunoby took a big step forwards as a creator last season. Reaching borderline 2nd/3rd option status on offense. Combined with all NBA defense. All of that on a great contract. Even if they like someone in the draft they probably can get a better offer than #7 + Bledsoe somewhere else.
