RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? This team will explode once we get one or two more of players with offensive skills at this level. Bojan Bogdanovic would fit amazingly well on this team. It is clear that THJ and RG are not a fit. Powell, Maxi and DFS are great glue players that are important to keep, but for the team to get to another level we need one or two more multiple skills players. As long as one of those skills is defense, then I agree. Bringing in more offense only players is not going to work. Teams don't win championships without being good at defense. It just doesn't happen. If you are not a top 10 defense then you are not a legit contender. About the only way a team can be good enough both offensively and defensively is to have some players than can play on both ends. The Mavs do not have any. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Last 40 years championships won without being top 10 in defensive rating: 3. Interestingly the Mavs are the only team that won a championship without being top 7 in either category. Yeah, and I believe the most recent team to win without being top 10 defense was Lakers in a year they mostly mailed it in during regular season because they were that good. During the playoffs they had the highest rated defense. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Just don’t underestimate the power of spite, especially with people with a chip on their shoulder. Maybe it’s not vet min, but he’s going to go to a team he thinks has a good chance to beat the Warriors, which pretty much at most means exception money. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - Chicagojk - 01-14-2023 If a big does trade not present itself over the next year, I wonder if this team could be a contender? 1) move Hardaway for a guy like Mike Conley. This would need to be a three team trade. Backcourt would be Luka, Din, Conley and Hardy 2) use a first and a salary for a wing. Ideally you could make a smart evaluation on a guy similar to Lauri Markkanan, Bogdanovich, Huerter type. Mavs don't inspire a lot of confidence in making this type of evaluation. But maybe even a lower tier player like Josh Hart. Wings would be DFS, Josh Green, Maxi, & X You would have four guys for two spots. 3) Resign Wood and pickup/draft a developmental big Bigs Wood, Powell (if resigned), developmental big RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? It's the Milwaukee model. Ball dominate super star, B+ stars surrounding. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? SD and Wood are not in the same category as Holiday and Middleton. Looking at the Holiday trade the Mavs barely have enough to make an offer for one player in that range. When you look at their core of Giannis/Jrue/Middleton/Brooks/Allen, the Mavs can certainly match that with something like Luka/Wood/Collins/Din/Green. IMO the Mavs need to look at one more B+ caliber starter that compliment the core of Luka/Wood/Din/Green. Collins, OG, Lavine, Siakom get them there and a brawler's chance at a championship. Didn´t know that Wood made multiple allstar or all defense teams. But I remember that he was traded for one first and the Mavs garbage contracts. Not three first rounds picks and two swaps. Jrue Holiday trade package was comparable to Mitchell or Gobert. He gives you the same offensive production that Wood offers with more playmaking while also being one of (if not the) the best perimeter defenders in the league. Middleton is coming back from an injury but his body of work is far more impressive than anything Wood or SD have done. 3x allstar that has been a reliable 20ppg scorer and the Bucks closer in the last five seasons. If Wood is as good as those two there are no excuses for the Mavs struggles. Unless Luka isn´t as good as advertised. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Not sure if I am interested. Also not sure what the Knicks would want in return. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan?
