RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? That's the point in the statement. Dinwiddie's shot profile needed to change and they had to integrate Wood's offense too. All the fringe player opportunities are going to get a trickle down effect because of this. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - Razzmatazz_Hopskidillydoo - 01-13-2023 Could Cedi+Levert+Mavs SRP get it done for Collins? 3 Team trade, Mavs get Collins. Cavs solidify their weak SF spot with both THJ and Bullock Hawks get to decide if they can keep Levert or erase Collins' money while taking in a decent SF and a second round pick or two. His timeline is "now" not later (he's 29 soon), his contract ends after next season, and TOR doesn't have the team yet to make "now" a feasible timeline. Also, his salary numbers will be going up soon (expires summer of 24). There may be value in other TOR players like OG, but I don't think they will move, since they are not about to age out (OG is 3+ years younger, and Barnes is another 4 years younger than that). Who do we think will WANT Collins and what would they offer, in light of the contract that comes with him? A podcast I listened to (NBA Front Office) had some Collins theories. Utah’s deal was TO-Beasley and Vanderbilt. Indy has the cap room to do some minor contracts and nothing more (though they’d lose the ability to renegotiate-and-extend for Turner unless they send out some more significant salary). If those are realistic offers, and they feel reasonable, then the bad Dallas contracts don’t stand a chance. Maybe something centered around THJ (or LeVert with THJ going to Cleveland), but if they took LeVert, it seems it would need something more long-lasting than just an expiring. So, someone would probably need to add something more…Seconds or Frank or something. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - cow - 01-13-2023 What if you centered the Mavs outgoing offer around DFS/Powell? RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I still think JC has the potential to REALLY shine somewhere else. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? The fact Lillard is 32 makes me back away initially. I don't think even at the production Dame is putting up (28/4/7 on 45/35/88) he'd command 5 picks. I'd be more inclined if we could remove the 2026 or the 2028 pick swaps so we'd be able to do another package involving 2024 to get a 3rd guy. Something in the offseason like: Dame for 2024+2028+2030. Then go and use 2026+2029 pickswap to get a good role player that can fit with Luka+Dame (Ayton?) If there was a way to get additional firsts (say trading THJ for Lowry and a first), and then substituting those in the package I'd be way happier too. In any case 4 would be my limit. He'd be one of the most perfect co-stars next to Luka too. Tough to think about. His age+injuries really makes me worried about that deal. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - loki - 01-14-2023 I'm a lot less interested in Collins now that Christian Wood is showing he might be the best roll man in the league. I don't think he adds a skillset the Mavs are missing. His contract could limit future moves given how stingy Cuban seems to be with the tax. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - cow - 01-14-2023 If Dame goes anywhere, he's going to want to win and I think he'd do his best to fit in. He's not in his early 20s and trying to establish himself. I don't think he'd have any problem becoming a second option to Luka and I know Luka wouldn't have any problem deferring to Dame as he's done so with much, much lesser players. His age, recent injury history and contract size are troubling. Can you put enough around the pairing to go all-in now? Just offering up a better starting point for the trade idea. I don't have a lot of feelings on Collins as I don't watch a lot of Hawks basketball. He's never really popped out during the Mavs matchups. I know he has had a run-in with PEDs and has seemingly been in trade rumors the last three years. Not terribly concerned about the Wood/Collins fit for a few reasons. We don't know Wood's long term outlook with the team and at this point, talent acquisition is more important than fit. I guess I do have concern about the potential of spending that much money at the 4/5. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - burekemde - 01-14-2023 Instead of aiming for second superstar, we need to bring in more players like SD and CW. This team will explode once we get one or two more of players with offensive skills at this level. Bojan Bogdanovic would fit amazingly well on this team. It is clear that THJ and RG are not a fit. Powell, Maxi and DFS are great glue players that are important to keep, but for the team to get to another level we need one or two more multiple skills players. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ to MIA? - Razzmatazz_Hopskidillydoo - 01-14-2023 They can't get a superstar anyway. Mavs would be lucky to get someone a notch above JB. I see this Mav team with 2 guys deserving to stay. Other than Luka, that's just CWood and Green. Everybody else can go (Id keep Maxi and Hardy but that's the whole list). And Luka doesn't need a superstar IMHo. He just needs players in the talent level as Wood, and the ability of Green. A shame they let Brunson go, but it is what it is. Mavs need to get that Brunson-level guy. Stop aiming for the stars in the top 20, a top 40 guy could cut it. And it would be good for the Mavs to upgrade the HC. This current coach sux. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Except our problem isn't offense, it's defense. As evidenced by the fact we are 7th in offensive rating (I'd say a few players have some room to increase their shooting efficiency, maybe increasing this ranking), and 22nd in defensive rating. We only think we need more offense because our defense is so bad and we can't keep opponents scoring down to reasonable levels. I'd rather pick up someone with a more balanced offense/defense skillset, than someone who's all offense unless they are a genuine superstar. I'd take Bogdanovic, but I'd not give up the assets they would likely want for him in terms of FRP's and maybe someone like Green, who's become pretty critical to any defensive stability we have, or even Hardy who IMO should be part of a trade for a better and younger player, or kept and developed. They probably aren't taking any other players we can afford to lose unless we attach more than one FRP I would think. If we could get him cheap for some of the bad fits in our team then sure. |
