RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ available - F Gump - 01-10-2023 (01-10-2023, 06:46 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I agree with all of the above. I am fully convinced it was the latter. My belief is that they understood what they needed, and had a plan that would do exactly that. But the plan was based on Cuban's complete confidence (wrongly placed) in his ability to re-sign Brunson. That was his path, and (because he believed he didn't need one) they fashioned no real alternative. I do think Cuban saw Dragic, at one point, as a sort of a safety net in their back pocket, but they changed directions at the last minute in Europe based on J Kidd's opinion that he was washed. Why they didn't have a reliable assessment much sooner to allow a different pursuit either speaks to incredibly poor planning AGAIN, or an approach that once Brunson was off the table, for them it was Dragic or no one. Regardless of how they got there, however, it was definitely another complete and massive fail by Cuban. The list of BIG goofs keeps growing. Ugh. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ available - dynamicalVoid - 01-10-2023 Funny how I mentioned a reasonable suggestion to correct THJ's bad performances....and no one responds. Seems convenient. But apparently its UNHEARD of in todays NBA in regards to Agents demands and what not(I assume) Or its some reverse psychology on myself. Regardless...it doesnt make sense...and no one here can make sense of it without sounding like someone on drugs. Or...is everyone chalking up to "wait until the playoffs" for him to clean up his play? Kinda how Luka doesnt take bad shots in Playoffs. Is that what THJ is going to do when it matters? RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Luka + DFS is -.1, Luka + Bullock is -.4, Luka + McGee is -8.7. The Luka + SD minutes are trending better without McGee and less Bullock. Luka + SD are indeed +6 with Bullock/McGee off the floor in 300 minutes. But because the offensive output is insane, and the defense is still very bad without them. 127.77 ORtg 121.26 DefRtg McGee is such a weird case, because his defensive numbers ain't even looking bad despite Kidd playing more drop coverage. But he is straight up the best Luka defender in the league, sinking the offense to worst in the league material. Luka + McGee pairing sitting on a 102.04 ORtg and a 110.25 DefRtg. Thats close to best defense in the league and might be close to worst offense of the last 10 years in the NBA. Even the biggest tanking teams have a hard time to achieve a 100 ORtg for a season. Bruh I think McGee is the classic case of a player who has no jumper that doesn't really work with Luka. Lane clogging is bad for Luka. If you can't figure out how to deal with it. Diamond Powell is an enigma / 8th World Wonder to work with Luka despite no jumper. If i am sitting in the Mavs front office, i would be pretty hesistant to trade for a big with bad shootings numbers in the future. ---------------------------- 151 minutes without Luka and SD on the floor: -11.86 net 97.12 OffRtg 108.98 DefRtg But since there are just 77 minutes of Wood on the floor where Luka + SD aren't on the floor. I suspect this is a lot of garbage time involved. ---- The 77 min with Wood look better than expected without Luka + SD. Due to great defense. Offense bad here without Luka + SD. 110.07 107.59 --- + 2.47 net Tho its basically 75 of no Luka + no SD + no Wood, the numbers look bad: ORtg 85.28 DefRtg 110.30 ---- -25.03 I would think thats garbage time. And the Cavs game where Luka + SD haven't played. The fact that the Mavs managed to play a good to great defensive game with the starting corner stones Kemba + Wood, doesn't do the Luka / SD duo any favors concerning the defensive centered discussion Holding the Cavs to 100 pts in an OT game. If Green plays in that game, i guess they might even win that one. Because the Mavs didn't really survive the Hardy/Pinson minutes sadly. Green missed 3 out of the 4 Luka rest games btw. Which prolly wasn't helping either to win a no Luka game. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I can see them looking, but it's hard to imagine who they could get that would be good enough to make a difference, but whose price would nevertheless be limited to a cost of "Hardaway" or less. The mention of an interest in Quickley might fit this motif. But identifying a target who makes sense is not easy. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? Or, find a team who might want a shooter and find a player who some other team is willing to move for expiring LeVert. I still think THJ for LeVert is logical from a style of play standpoint, but simply swapping one kind of meh for a different kind of meh. When I hear new rumors now, my mind goes to how expiring LeVert deal might fit into the equation. One year of Conley comes to mind. So do some others including Rozier. If would be nice to get one of Cleveland's 2023 seconds in such a swap. Not so much because I want a late second, but because it is another piece that can be added to another trade. Another place my mind goes a lot is how to bake NY into any trade. The purpose isn't so much because I'm dying to have Fournier or Rose or Reddish (though I'd love to add Toppin or Quickley). The purpose is to figure a way to either get our pick back or include the unprotecting of the pick as part of the deal. For instance, is there a world where Quickly is the compensation for swapping expiring LeVert for Fournier? And, as part of that, we unprotect our 23 so we can move 25, 27 and 29 in some other move. If you have Quickley and Green as young guards, do you feel more free to include Hardy in that bigger deal? RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I would actually prefer our 23 back instead of Quickley, if possible. I am not really convinced he is a starter on a serious team and we have plenty of "nothing special" players already. Fournier is expiring next season and such a deal would be ideal. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? | THJ available - omahen - 01-11-2023 Unfortunately I have to add: nothing so far has shown that Mavs ever think long term. All the moves are made with a short term goal in mind. That is why I have zero hope for a move as proposed above. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I'm surprised you guys would be ok with that Duncan Robinson contract. THJ is a year shorter and de-escalates. Maybe thats the price for a 1st rounder. If so, then maybe i'm in. Can they throw in Nikola Jovic too? The Heat really have nothing we'd want. So if we trade with them, we can prepare to get crap back. Sounds like a Mavs trade to me.
