RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? - HAguiar95 - 12-30-2022 Moving DFS to SF would allow us to get another rebounder/paint protector to help us not get outrebounded and abused in the paint every game. If we want to keep the two defender strategy, Dinwiddie would them be moved to the bench (not sure if he'd take it well) and Green could be promoted. Shor-term, i'd like to keep: Doncic/Dinwiddie Green/Hardaway Finney-Smith Kleber/TARGET Wood/Powell That leaves Bullock/McGee to match salary. I do not want to spend future picks or Hardy on this TDL. So very limited options to "upgrade". Covington (LAC) would be a welcome addition. He's not playing there and could be a stopgap starting PF to help Wood clean the class and protect the paint (we're getting abused every game on those aspects). He wstill is a plus defender and can hit the ocasional three. If we keep DFS at PF, looking at the sucess last season, then the TARGET would be someone to handle the rock/take the pressure away from our ball-handlers. Doncic/TARGET Dinwiddie/Hardaway Green Finney-Smith/Kleber Wood/Powell Conley (UTA) would be my ideal target (Bertans/Bullock for Conley/Gay). RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? I would be up for a Bullock for Covington trade. Nobody is taking on that Bertans contract, especially for a productive player like Conley. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? You wouldn't say this if you watched the Clipps games. He's not the 2-way glue guy he once was -- his ability to score has fallen way off the cliff, and he's mostly a bench-sitter at the back end of role players there (11th in mpg). I think he would play a bigger role for the Mavs. Most teams are desperately searching for big wings but the Clippers are in a unique situation. Might be the only team in the league with too many of them if that is even possible. Not really a suprise that he isn´t getting a lot of minutes behind PG, Kawhi, Morris and Batum. Not to even mention smaller wings like Powell, Mann and Kennard. But even if he never plays a single minute for the Mavs I would do it without thinking twice. RoCo 11.6m in 23/24 McGee 5.7m in 23/24, 6m in 24/25 Bullock 5.5m guaranteed in 23/24 Getting out of McGee´s extra year would be a huge win for the Mavs. Turning two "negative" roster spots into one is another small win. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? - Chicagojk - 12-30-2022 If the Raptors decide to make a move, I wonder if that could free up a buy low for Otto Porter or Boucher? I don't think either would cost much. Just tough trying to find a fit for the Mavs with our limited assets. Porter has been hurt much of the year. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? I wonder what they'd give up for Bullock... Maybe Bullock+McGee for Caris Lavert. Or Bullock for Cedi+ 2 2nds. RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? I was thinking a lot about Cleveland - Dallas possibilities yesterday, but I just don't see much. Bullock sort of fits the description of what Cavs need. But there really isn't anything realistic on their roster I would have interest in and they don't have picks. I don't think Mavs need LeVert instead of Bullock. They have THJ and SD in the role he would be playing. On the other hand I doubt Cleveland would want anything with McGee. Also not sure, why would any of them be interested in the Bullock for Cedi swap - I don't think either of them improves and two low seconds are not really worth the trouble. Perhaps Cleveland could be used as a third team in a three team deal. Expiring LeVert could have interest and value to the third team where a "Mavs" player would be. Asking price is a 1st round pick and one promising young guy. I would personally do a 2027 1st, Hardy and add Bertans to match salaries. Wouldn't include Green. We'd probably have to add another pick just for them to take that contract. Would they take a Bullock/McGee package along with a 1st rounder? RE: TRADE & FA: Mavs interested in Nerlens? Collins? Bojan? LaVine? - DanSchwartzgan - 01-05-2023 The trade before The Trade Was listening to Hardwood Knocks this morning as they went through some interesting teams in the east and a Maverick conversation broke out when they got to Charlotte and possible trades they might make. Here are the basics of the Hornet players they thought might be on the market…. Jalen McDaniels: UFA this summer. Might someone pay a second to rent him and give him a try (DS Note: He is a Duffy client) Rozier: Charlotte doesn’t have to do anything as it needs volume shooting and cap space isn’t important to them. They then named several non-Mav destinations where he might fit. Return was not high as they weren’t sure he has positive value. Basically real NBA players (to match the salary) who have shorter contracts was the proposed return. P.J Washington: They thought Charlotte might be able to get a first for PJ, but hard to come up with who might do it. RFA this summer. They see him as worth $12mm- ish (the going rate for what they see as a 5th, 6th, 7th man). One commentator said he might trade a first if he knew he could keep P J in that $12mm range (kind of a wink wink deal). (DS Note: the 2023 picks of the teams with 8 of the top 9 records in the league are owed to other teams, so a ‘contender giving up a late first’ type deal isn’t likely). They did mention one team maybe dealing a distant first for Washington (but Dallas didn’t come up). Hayward: Called him immovable then went on to discuss at length why Dallas would be a fit. The main thing would be to consolidate some contracts back into a 2024 expiring. They mentioned Bertans, THJ and maybe even McGee. Debate was if Dallas is making a big trade for a star, is it better to have one big expiring contract (Hayward) or several medium sized contracts that have additional future money on them. They could see him fitting well into what Dallas does on the occasions he’s healthy (DS Note: I agree, but I think he’d be the Kemba replacement here…bench scoring with some creation and distribution). They then went onto discuss what it might cost Dallas to dump some non-expiring contracts into Hayward. Future first…Hang up the phone. Green…No. Hardy… The conclusion was there is value in dumping some contracts on Charlotte for Hayward and that might be worth sending out Hardy (and acknowledged Dallas fans were probably already writing their negative comments). We’ve talked a good bit about Washington and I’ve expressed my love for Kai Jones. So, this time I’ll avoid those names and make a case for something else. I would very seriously consider Bertans/Reggie for Hayward as the foundation of a deal. A $30mm trade chip this summer or at the next TDL will be a powerful tool. And, if healthy, Hayward can be a very nice bench contributor to a playoff run this season. Green and Frank are fine, so Reggie isn’t required. But, what do you do from there. Charlotte has no control over Duffy client McDaniels. He’d be a nice Maxi replacement as a 6’9” wing defender who can hit some 3’s. Duffy would be thrilled because the opportunity to be showcased here and hit open 3’s would be much better than in Charlotte (at least until Maxi returns). Charlotte has 3 second round picks this year and none in 2025. We have none this year and one in 2025. So, now we are at Hayward/McDaniels for Bertans/Reggie and a swap of seconds. I’m not giving up Hardy yet because Dallas has taken on a good bit more 22/23 salary in this deal. However, if we add McGee for one of Charlotte’s young bigs, I’m in on including Hardy. Williams, Thor and Jones are all very young. Richard’s is RFA this summer and would basically do the things McGee was brought here to do. I see him as expendable given the rest of their roster. If the team wants to move on from Powell, he gives you leverage there. If the team wants to keep Powell, you keep Richard’s as your third center behind Wood and Powell. The other thing this does is add some more proven youth (Richard’s and McDaniel instead of Hardy) in case you need it for a bigger deal in 2023/24. So, the trade is: Hayward, Richards, McDaniel + 2023 2nd for Bertans, Reggie, McGee and Hardy + 2025 2nd. Wood. Powell. Richards DFS. McDaniel. Maxi (Inj) THJ. Hayward. Pinson SD. Green. Luka. Frank. That's a win now move where I think we need to be thinking more long term. |
