Probably the most glaring example of a shooter that put up all time great numbers in empty arenas in 2020 and 2021. But wasn´t able to replicate it once fans, noise and other distractions returned. Screwed a couple of teams that handed out contracts based on bubble performances. Someone other than Luka/Wood should be able to box-out and grab a defensive board. Finney-Smith, Kleber (not a big) and Powell (guys that play PF/C for us) are such PATHETIC defensive rebounders, that we really can't rely on this rotation come playoff time. We tried to fix this by getting McGee, but he can't stay 5 minutes on the floor without punishing our team with his usual -10 plus/minus. Wood should be a major part of this, but the coach seems to think otherwise (pointing out his D as a reason he doesn't start/get minutes). Can we find a starting PF/C that rebounds (and hit fucking FTs) at a high enough rate by trading Wood/Bullock/McGee (Vucevic/Collins)? Or should we just refresh the SL to feature Wood and add Green. IMO Bullock and McGee are the two players that reeeealy hurt us when they're playing, so getting them out for someone capable would be a plus. RE: TRADE & FA: ATL listening to John Collins offers, PHX interested - DanSchwartzgan - 12-04-2022 (12-04-2022, 09:30 AM)HAguiar95 Wrote: Chi brought up Vuc's name yesterday. He hasn't been good at all in Chicago and I bet Bull's fans would love a do-over on that trade. I suspect most here would turn their nose at the idea. Too old, too slow, can't defend and hasn't been nearly as good a 3 point shooter since leaving Orlando. But here is where it gets interesting. Trade Machine says Dallas would pick up 3 wins in a straight up deal (based on Vuc's superior LEBRON). EPM also has Vuc as the better player, but the margin is pretty tiny (slightly better offensively and slightly worse defensively). So, the two best metrics out there say old, slow and can't defend Vucevic is better than Wood. Vuc. doesn't score as well, but he does pick up a couple more boards per 36, gets more assists and hits his FT's. Even the On-minus-Off is kind of interesting. Vuc is -3.8 on a team that is -1.0 in net rating overall. Wood is now -1.3 on a team that is 2.4 overall. So, Vuc underperforms his team by 2.8 and Wood underperforms his team by 3.7 (shout out to FGump for pointing out Wood's season long On/Off took a 21 point hit yesterday). I don't think I'd make the trade (do we need another drop coverage big?). OK, maybe I would if it was Wood and McGee. But, it is interesting to think about the possibility that a guy who most here wouldn't want being better than the guy we spend soooooo much time here debating what role he should play. RE: TRADE & FA: ATL listening to John Collins offers, PHX interested - dynamicalVoid - 12-04-2022 At this point I couldnt care less what a trade machine suggests based on percentages. We need basketball players over percentages. IMO, we need a younger more modern roster. And I dont want to argue for 10 pages about how hard it is to find those players or how difficult it is to acquire those players. Every team seems to have more of them than the Mavericks. Younger, more modern players. So I am out on wasting time, energy, resources on Vuc. I don't remember seeing more stupid proposals from a should be respectable media. I don't see GSW trading two recent FRP (Wiseman, Moody) for Garry Harris and Mo Wagner (he also has GSW adding second round picks to their guys). Bulls will certainly not trade LaVine for two bad contracts of Bertans and THJ for just one FRP. Two teams underperforming, badly needing a shake-up, two expiring contracts. Just need to figure out the other pieces involved. Mavs best cases: Wood/McGee for Vucevic Wood/THJ for Vucevic/White RE: TRADE & FA: ATL listening to John Collins offers, PHX interested - KillerLeft - 12-04-2022 (12-04-2022, 06:15 PM)Mavs2021 Wrote: I think a Wood/Vucevic trade will happen. I'd do the first one in a heartbeat, I think. I'm sure most people around here would like the second one, and some might even like it better, but I'm not afraid to be the last guy on Hardaway island. I think this team needs what he can give if/when he gets back to where he was. It's not that I mind trading Hardaway, I guess I'm just not super high on White. I agree that the proposed trade isn't all that realistic, but if LaVine is really available he'd be one I'd be tempted to spend some real assets on (if the team even has enough). Neither do teams that lack evaluation and blow their wad on over the hill vets with holes in their game leaving you with an asset you cant move and being left with no draft assets to acquire players via trade or draft. Draw the line in the sand on timeframe...because I see us arguing about timeframe eventually. I think you are going to suggest that the Mavs HAVE to win now and I disagree with that. It may take 2 years longer but would set the franchise up for longer term success.......but, imo, Mavs should draft or acquire a few younger pieces with bball fundamentals that play both sides of ball that they think fits long term and then fill in the remaining hole with your vets. I believe the easiest way to do that is through draft since apparently no one wants to come to Dallas in FA and the playoff playable, plug and play 2way vet market is astronomical. What gives me reservations about this approach is that I believe Luka is probably like Old Man Lebron...doesnt want to play rookies because of their advanced bball IQs and dealing with players making mistakes. And...to be clear...I am not for a complete sell off and tear down...just take the draft more seriously and dont throw draft assets around. Especially on vets with holes in their game or have past injuries. But if you want to slap lipstick on a pig because you want to win now...I agree with you I guess. |
