GAME 80 DIRKIE: Jalen BUCKETS (48%) - SleepingHero - 04-06-2022 https://twitter.com/dallasmavs/status/1511876760501211139 RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - Hogmelon - 04-06-2022 LMAO!!! One vote (so far) for Luka!!! [Not my vote.] RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - Hypermav - 04-06-2022 RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - Jommybone - 04-06-2022 The Lantern with the Dirkie! RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - SleepingHero - 04-06-2022 Honestly was going to give it to Brunson, but Joshie has to be recognized for his 4th quarter play. So much hustle and he was making plays all over on offense. RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - ballsrchr - 04-07-2022 So many choices for the Dirkie! But I only have one... Marquese Chriss with 12 points in 10 minutes. That's better than normal. 6 people in double figures--and 2 more with 9. That's a sign of a team working together. And...since we have only one superstar--so far--we have to win as a team. Speaking of superstars...the little engine who could (become a streamliner) is slowly approaching superstardom. Should he get the Dirkie because he sometimes keeps the team in the game--until the rest of the guys wake up? I don't know. Getting pretty common for Jalen Brunson. If he keeps improving he will be a second superstar. At first I was going to give the Dirkie to JB... Damn! Luka with 14 assists. That's good thing--and a great trend. Dirkieworthy? Yes, but... Dinwiddie?...did what he is suppose to do. So...I've whittled my choice down to Josh Green. I know everyone is waiting with Bated breath for my choice. This should open the flood gates of those on the fence. Don't be shy! Vote. Give us your opinion. Can JG be a superstar? Not yet...but he is doing some good things...and has a fairly high ceiling. Just watching him I also think he will be durable. Josh Green gets my Dirkie! RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - SleepingHero - 04-07-2022 (04-07-2022, 06:45 AM)ballsrchr Wrote: Can JG be a superstar? At this point I think the question is no longer a matter of if but when I look forward to Green's 20ppg average next season. RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - Jommybone - 04-07-2022 I absolutely LOVE Jalen, but this game did not look like an outlier from him. Not to me. I think he finishes behind Josh, Marquis and Davis all three. But ok, I guess. RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - KillerLeft - 04-07-2022 (04-07-2022, 12:25 PM)Jommybone Wrote: I absolutely LOVE Jalen, but this game did not look like an outlier from him. Many people don't vote this way. I vote for the person without whom I believe the game would've been a loss. "Outlier" has nothing to do with it, from my perspective. In this game, I actually thought Brunson was the main force behind whooping Detroit's ass in terms of scoring in the paint, which is why Dallas was able to hang in through the first two quarters. So, he got my vote! RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - Jommybone - 04-07-2022 (04-07-2022, 01:01 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: ...which would explain why he always gets at least one vote. Jalen wuz good for sure. But the 14 assists were the difference, I thought. A whole bunch of em ending with a 3. In fact, I just went back and counted em up. 8 of the 14 assists for 3 balls. That’s 36 points accounted for via Luka’s 14 assists. Another 26 he scored himself. I just don’t see how to give anybody else credit for the W. Josh for Dirkie. Luka for MVP. For what its worth, the original “Dirkie” was actually meant to recognize exactly the type of player you’re describing — the most underrated / overperforming player of the night. It seems like the definition/criteria for the Dirkie has always been relatively ambiguous. On some occasions, reasonable minds may differ about which Mav played the "best" overall game. When the "grading on the curve" aspect is thrown in, however, reasonable minds are much more likely to differ. It's all in good fun, though. Right? There's no right or wrong way to enjoy the Mavs, and just the idea of voting means that differing perspectives are expected. I don't think there's any need to force a criteria on anyone. I agree, but I have always made a genuine effort to follow the definition that was most commonly provided (Kammrath's words): "Who was the player of the game who elevated his play above normal to help the team win?" RE: GAME 79 DIRKIE: - ItsGoTime - 04-07-2022 This discussion has come and gone so many times now I don’t even get involved anymore. Vote how you want. There’s almost as many individualized definitions as there are voters! Not me. I couldn't care less what one person just randomly decided to add as the wording to a thread. It's not like we voted on that. Frankly, even if we had, I'd still vote how I wanted because I'm here with my free time to enjoy the community in my way. It's not like we voted on that. As you may have guessed from my quoting (see above) of two ancient posts on this topic, I did spend a few seconds researching the origin and subsequent history of the Dirkie. I didn't spend enough time to determine whether there was ever a "vote" or any type of general consensus about the Dirkie. Moving right along .... |
