I just think about Ballmer taking on tons of $ in the deal for Norm Powell and Cov at the deadline and now signing Wall. They may even keep Batum and Hartenstein. Or that tax $ GS has been and is about to pay. Nets Joe Tsai is the Alibaba founder. Cuban just seems sort of small fry compared to that kind of spending power in todays NBA. Because either way it’s framed as a “business decision” right? As in, “we had a # we valued him at, and beyond that it’s a bad team building decision.” Or (translation) “40m in tax really actually hurts guys. I can AFFORD to pay it, technically, yes, but I won’t because I would feel it.” Cuban has too much pride to say the latter so we will get spin about the Dragic/Luka connection and maybe some other mid-minor trade or signing to distract.

I have no idea what players we can take back on a potential side and trade, but here is my preference in order:

1) our '23 first round pick-  I assume this is off the table

2) Cam Reddish- His potential has never matched his production.  Only 22 though.   Bet on the upside

3) Julius Randle-  From what I understand, this can't really happen.  He really doesn't fit our team and NYK may be glad to get rid of him.  But again, betting on talent.

4) Myles McBride/Trevor Keels-   Either or

5) Alec Burks-  Solid player but a lot of leg injuries.   Just feels like blah.  Solid player but no upside..just an expiring.

6) Nerlens Noel-   Been there.  10 million per year is no mans land for limited centers.

Dude, scroll up a few posts.

They got all the room they need, my guy.

I'm sure there was talk with Dallas about a SNT, but if Dallas doesn't want to pay the tax on Brunson, why would they want to pay it for lesser players like Noel?

He's walking. Nothing in return.

For what it’s worth, I would LOVE GP II here at the TPMLE if he can be gotten here for that. Have my doubts we can get him for that, but do it all day if possible. He’s a Caruso type, dirty work, difference maker on defense. That’d mean Dragic gets the minimum though.

It's time to give up hope on the Mavs signing any good players. This is Mark Cuban's LA Clippers-- not the current ones, Donald Sterling's.

Cap guru question: with Brunson walking for nothing are we able to more easily work SnT deals now? Back below the apron? My mind is fuzzy on this stuff, sorry. Have been assuming Jalen was coming back. Have to adjust to the unfortunate paradigm shift in perspective.

RE: Mavs not offering as much as NYK

This could just be Cuban being cheap. But my hope is that with Nico around that they have many alternative plans already in place.

My guess (giving them the benefit of the doubt):

They looked at their other options and looked at what it would cost to keep JB and believe that the other options are more appealing to them long term.

I can imagine scenarios in my head where I would like this summer better than just keeping JB and doing nothing else, so I am going to wait and see how it all turns out. I do believe JB's talent is massively wasted next to Luka.

I just can't believe Jalen is going to get 30 mil per year.   I think 25 mil will be high.  We will see.  30 mil is a crazy #.  That just can't be right.

Just to be clear, you're saying the scenarios you'd prefer would happen this summer, yes?

Is simply letting him walk and signing Dragic one of those scenarios?

I also like to fantasize about impossible scenarios

That´s the reality. If they knew that Brunson would join the Knicks they had options to at least find some kind of replacement. All of them involved/involve adding salary to the payroll and the way it looks that´s just not going to happen.
