So how do we get Brogdon?

First step, get our 23 back. Second step, I don’t know. Third step, profit!

See if you can get a wing back or something in a S&T. Brunson had a few really good games in the playoffs. But, he also got shutdown for a good bit of the GS series as well.

The big deal is that they should've traded him at the deadline if they didn't want to pay what it would take to keep him.

NYK: Brunson and Green

DAL: Brogdon

IND: Powell, Reddish, Mavs 23

What a major bummer.  I will probably feel slightly different later, but to be honest my mindset is to get ready for Luka to be out of here in 2-3 years.    Just a deflated feeling.

This feels like the post championship Dirk years.  Just feels like we scramble every offseason with a grand, unlikely target and every year it is a battle to put together a competitive team.    I was hoping keeping our core together while looking for that final piece would be the direction.  The core while not super talented outside of Luka is familiar with each other and play well together.  The last piece could be added over the next year or so.

Now we are back to needing two substantial pieces with not great assets.   And the Luka clock has begin to tick!

There were a few trying to figure that out, much to the scoffing by a few from the board.

I think the combo of Brogdon's age, injury history, and contract are issues. And his shooting 3s has been suspect in Indy. But if he comes at a VERY cheap price in assets, he might be a good bounceback possibility, playing off of Luka, as he did in MIL with Giannis.

OTOH there has been a lot of interest in him in rumors, so he might be way too expensive anyhow, if there's huge competition.

Well, the overwhelmingly correct thing would've been to keep him here and keep him happy.

But I think we can all agree that getting something for him at the deadline would've been better than this situation, unless they figure something really surprising out (which I guess is possible).

Ultimately, it's worth less than nothing what some people around here were trying to figure out. We don't own or run the team.

He is really good.  Like Jalen he has winning traits.

But as you say the injury history is really concerning.  He just isn't on the court as much as you need him.   Injury concerns have been a big story since he dropped to the second round.  And looking back, they have been warranted.

If we find out that the Mavs did not even match NY's offer, there should be hell to pay for Cuban. It would be complete salary malpractice from start to finish in his time here.

There won’t be a SnT:

At least none where we get something of value. NY has all the leverage.

There may not be a sign and trade. There should be a tampering investigation.

RE: BRUNSON BURNER: JB to NYK for 4yrs/$100+M? | can Mavs get SnT? - KillerLeft - 06-28-2022

Ultimately, I doubt there will be a sign and trade because I think Cuban will see the "silver lining" in the situation as a way to reduce payroll.

I think he had a number in his head he was willing to swallow to keep Brunson here, and I think the reason they're "resigned" to this outcome instead of fighting it is that it's clear NY's offer will rocket past that number.

I expect them to use part of the TP MLE to offer Dragic more than the minimum, but not the entire thing. The rest of it will go unused.

I think they'll do their due diligence and shop THJ, Powell and Bertans around, hoping to come across a piece they like that way, or, better yet - to get under the LT threshold. But, if they can't get anything done, I bet it will be sign Dragic to replace Brunson and away we go. Secretly, Cuban will be relieved that he doesn't have to write such a big check at the end of the season.

Further, I bet the primary mission at the TDL will be to shed salary and avoid writing the check at all at season's end.

Probably Dragic will get part of the tax MLE and Hardy will get the rest to give him a similar deal as Brunson or Terry.  I think.

Then we will wait until Giannis will be a Free agent again.  That will be our chance!

Sickening but probably accurate

This is exactly what I expect to happen. Only, not "the rest." Just enough to offer those two more money than they could otherwise. It won't take $6 million, I don't think.

RE: BRUNSON BURNER: JB to NYK for 4yrs/$100+M? | can Mavs get SnT? - JamesConway912 - 06-28-2022

Per MacMahon:

Mavs willing to offer a 5yr deal „that is comparable“ to the $85M/4yr contract Fred VanFleet got from TOR.

So it looks like we’re offering in the low $20M range annually.

I think Goran is good.   Not sure he has it in him to be a 25 minute a game player for a full season.  I am depressed.

Trying to see if would prefer looking at a younger option like Jalen Smith or someone else who may be here 2-3 years or just try to sign Goran and get 75% of Jalen?   It seems like the second option is not a serious contender and a short term bandaid.

What do you imagine the haul would have been for a UFA that has deep ties to the Knicks?

The UFA status alone would have devalued him severely.  Yes, the acquiring team would have had Bird rights and still would have been subject to losing him.

Oh don´t worry. They´ll sign Dragic to the full TP-MLE. The fact that he suddenly loves Dallas so much means Dollars. Last season he didn´t want to sign here. If he has made that decision over any other contender already, before free agency even opens it means MONEY.
