You might be right, but I guess I think they would still want more in the backcourt than just 32 year old Rose and hobbled Kemba.

Let's say closer to 80% than 100%
I think the Knicks are still on plan powder but with more win now approach.
They have traded our 2021 pick for future pick, keeping their assets for more time.
They can still offer 4-6 picks for any super star that wants out (Dam and Beal) so I doubt they will reach out for back up PG and give any assets. 3rd PGs are easy to get IMO

Brunson would be good insurance for New York. Problem is that he is pretty valuable to us too.

Can't say I agree. Kemba's knee injury might be a degenerative one. He looked toast last year with Boston. Under Thibs he might seriously run himself into the ground.
Their next best PG is Rose who also isn't a spring chicken. I think NYK is will still be looking hard for a PG and Brunson would be highly attractive to them.

Rose has been fantastic. Can't say the same for Kemba. If Kemba bounces back, NY might be better than last year as they also added Fournier.

Again, they have 2 PG that they trust (offered contract) and Brunson will be the 3rd, you don't pay much for that.
It isn't about them not taking him, they will do it if we gave him for free, I have no doubt about that.
But will they give us anything worthy? Highly doubt, at least till injuries start kicking (hopefully not)
Also, I think Knicks are aiming for 2023 FA or suer star trade, Brunson won't fit much with his next renewal

Knicks also have Quickley and Payton if they resign him.
Depends if they think Brunson is better then Quickley or maybe they think Quickley is a SG.

I sort of like this move by the Knicks. This continues a weird offseason for me with OKC too.
Maybe Kemba is what he is now. But maybe he bounces back. It has happened before. If he doesn't bounce back, he is on a relatively small contract that won't paralyze your franchise. Nice gamble.

Yeah, I've seen him play well in Boston. I don't buy the narrative that his play has fallen off a cliff, personally. Now, maybe he's just always going to be damaged, like Oladipo, and if so, yeah, he'll never be Kemba again. But if he ever gets healthy for a stretch he's still an all-star level guy, imo. Pick and roll master.
