I am not convinced this will lead to anything special yet, but I am certainly happy to know that I won’t have to watch Josh Richardson play basketball for the Mavericks anymore.

As he goes off and has a stellar year in Bos.

Unless I missed it, no one has noted this (which doesn't seem correct) that the Mavs would have more work to do in order to make room for Lowry and THJ.

Fuerza is a great deal brighter and more nuanced than Bartlettbear.

If my math is correct, the Mavs have created a $11.6TPE if they choose to operate over the cap after the Josh Richardson trade. #MFFL

Actually, it is probably $10.865mm, the amount of JRich's salary in the current NBA year.  If only we had people on this board who posted Boston TPE ideas this week.  That would have been helpful info.

The TPE lasts a year, but only if we don't try to spend all of our potential $34mm in cap room.  If we do need all of that space, we will have to renounce the TPE.  If we only need $23mm in space, we can keep the TPE and use it as a contract with a $1.0mm advantage over MLE players.  If we keep THJ, we can stay over the cap and have the TPE and the MLE.  One can replace JRich and one can bring in something new.

If this all shakes out and we still have the cap room and a roster spot, anyone interested in Marvin Baglady?

1 In light of the salary numbers being mentioned for Lowry, the Mavs best route (assuming they do sign him) would be to get him via over cap SNT, in order to be able to (a) keep the TPE and (b) be able to re-sign THJ.

2 Sign and trade would require one of the following scenarios to amass enough outgoing salary - (a) use KP, (b) use Maxi, or ( c) use Redick in an outgoing snt. If it comes to one of those, we may see how the Mavs (and others) reaaalllllly assess KP's value.

Interesting idea...I like the idea of being able to keep the TPE (and as a result the full MLE). I doubt Redick would want to go to Toronto, but in a 3 team deal could you S&T him to Philly for Hill, who would be sent to Toronto as a part of matching Lowry’s first year salary with DP and Burke?

We have enough room now that I'm not sure there's a way to operate over the cap in a KP for Lowry deal unless 1) Lowry is making the most he possibly can in that trade (i.e., eating into our cap room) and other pieces like Kleber, Powell, et al. are outgoing for bigger salary as well.

If we traded KP for SnT Lowry, I would rather not offer Lowry more than 3/90 (in which case we still have $33M in cap room), clear more cap room, and go after Holmes. I'd also rather Norm Powell than THJ in that scenario, but a man can't be too greedy.

Lowry
Powell
Luka
DFS
Holmes

If we could get Ball instead of Lowry, then Ball-Powell-Holmes would be close to being my ideal offseason.
