RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - Tyler - 10-12-2021 Philly probably isn't interested in Irving because Morey thinks he can trade Simmons for Harden, Durant, prime Kidd, and every draft pick from here until eternity. RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - sefant - 10-12-2021 Just preseason. But the Lakers looking pretty bad. Lebron old, Westbrook the usual, only AD good so far. Lebron/AD played 18 min. Warriors shooting 16 % from 3, only down 2 without Steph/Draymond. I keep reading/hearing how LALs are "built for the playoffs", "aren't focused on the regular season", "only concerned about winning 16 games after April 16th". How many teams think they can just flip the switch when the playoffs arrive? Basketball is not just about individual skillsets, but about how those individuals play together, support each other and do what's best for the team. You can't just flip a switch on that because it takes time and shared experiences to build enough trust to get there. If they crash and burn, I'm going to enjoy the schadenfreude, bad karma or not. I know DAL didn't make a big FA splash, but there is value in the continuity allowing them to grow together as they incorporate new talent. This has the potential to be a lot more fun than advertised. I mean it is the reason for Nets to suspend Kyrie, it is a crazy unsustainable situation. I think the idea of flipping it in the playoffs comes from what Lebron has done in his last year with the Cavs, he was 33 back then and he failed to replicate that afterwards, had play-in tournament and 1st round exit last year, lottery team in 2019, and only in 2020 when he had long offseason (because they weren't in playoffs) and then a huge stoppage due to Covid, and then played in bubble with no travel at all, only then Lebron produced a ring, he took regular season really seriously that year too. I am not sure how they expects this to work when he is 37 tbh, they will need at least one home court advantage and teams like Utah, Suns, Denver are well built to have better regular season record with their youth. Then Mavs, clippers and whoever else makes the leap RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - ClutchDirk - 10-13-2021 https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10014800-shams-kyrie-irving-will-no-longer-be-offered-contract-extension-by-nets RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - omahen - 10-14-2021 Hollinger Toronto review, interesting quote: In other words, keep an eye on Dragic. His contract, attached to draft picks, is likely the key to any maneuvering this year and in turn a major factor for 2022-23. https://theathletic.com/2883507/2021/10/14/hollingers-2021-22-toronto-raptors-preview-lineup-roster-prediction-can-this-core-score/ RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - omahen - 10-14-2021 That actually is an interesting question. Everyone on the roster with the exception of House and to an extent just signed Exum has a long term contract. Wall buyout? https://twitter.com/KeithSmithNBA/status/1448681084644995072 RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - Mavs2021 - 10-14-2021 (10-14-2021, 11:58 AM)omahen Wrote: That actually is an interesting question. If only one would have a TE to save Houston 7 mil for a second rounder or two RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - Mavs2021 - 10-14-2021 (10-14-2021, 12:13 PM)omahen Wrote: If only one would have a TE to save Houston 7 mil for a second rounder or two RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - michaeltex - 10-14-2021 Dumb questions... Can you trade a TE? Do you have to get equivalent value back, like with a player trade? RE: AROUND the NBA: Klay to try to return in "maybe January" | Zion out with foot surgery - Tyler - 10-14-2021 (10-14-2021, 01:00 PM)michaeltex Wrote: Can you trade a TE? No, you can't trade a trade exception for a pick. It's just cap space that can be used to bring in a certain amount of salary via trade without having to go through the over-the-cap trade matching rules. That said, new trade exceptions are often created in deals using old TEs. For example, when Boston took JRich into a trade exception, Dallas created their own new TE for the value of JRich's contract that they unloaded (less the Moses money). But TEs are technically not part of the trade, at they are solely created and used (or expire) within each franchise without ever changing hands. So Luka's new contract would count as a regular max contract cap-wise /~170m) and the remaining ~30m would be paid by Dallas (and only Dallas) as a non cap relevant bonus. If he requests a trade, he get's traded at max contract value, but he'll lose the not yet paid part of his 30m super-max bonus. Not counting the super-max part against the cap will help teams to stay/become competitive with a super-max player who would only get the regular max on any other team.
