Two-way-players.

Correct. Two-way players are the future. The days of the defensive specialist and the all offense no defense type of player are coming to an end. Or at least, those types of players will not be getting major minutes deep in the playoffs for a championship team anymore. Pat Beverley was a defensive specialist that looked like an absolute liability in the playoffs against Luka. Lou Williams is one of those good offensive players but terrible defenders that is a liability these days as well. A championship team in the modern NBA has to have 7-8 guys that are credible, reliable two way players that can't be taken advantage of on either end. We should be collecting as many of those types as possible. Luka, Bullock, and DFS are 3 guys like that. THJ at least isn't terrible on defense and is a definite plus offensively. I have hopes that KP and Brunson can get there defensively as well. Maxi was bad in the playoffs on offense but I have confidence he can put it all together for a playoff run one of these days. That's 7 guys right there. It remains to be seen if Luka, KP, THJ, and Brunson can create enough offense to be a contender though.

What is needed is a bunch of players who have the length, ability and willingness to grind while not being a liability on offense . Bullock has that.

I couldn't agree more with this. Even Marion, as great of a defender as he was, couldn't completely lock down a guy like Durant. NBA defense has become more about having players willing to play defense and a scheme that benefits them than anything else. You just can't lock guys down anymore with guys like Luka and the rules geared toward offense.

If they could get Hield and had to give up DFS I'm ok with that and I like DFS a lot.

I would also like to see if they could get Lauri Markannen.

Watching summer league, Spurs 18 yr old rookie Josh Primo looks like a find for SA. Spurs were questioned for taking him at 12, but he's got moxie for a young player.

Josh Primo is the man.  He is a beast from 3 and plays big defense (as do all of Nate Oats players).  As a Bama fan, I watched him at Alabama, and was gutpunched when he declared early, even though, sadly, I expected it.

Herb Jones was the SEC player of the year and Petty was the more popular, but I thought this cat by far had the most upside.

Glad to see him playing the 1 in SL...he didn't get to do that much at Bama.  If he can do run the offense in the NBA, that size at 6'6" will be nice for SAS.

Question for those who understand the business side of this better than I:

Is this a situation wherein the best course of action would be to simply allow negotiations to begin earlier, or would any such change simply result in aggressive agents/gm's starting even earlier, at even more inappropriate times?

It seems like the point of all this is to give every team and player a fair and equal opportunity to compete for upgrades/jobs, and I'm not sure the people who follow the league actually care all that much about how this is accomplished. Is it even possible?

Can you imagine the chaos if both Lowry and Ball are sent back to their previous teams and banned from joining Miami and Chicago? How many other teams and players would that affect in terms of subsequent deals? And what would the market for Ball and Lowry look like now that all of the FA money is already spoken for?

I sorta love it.

Moving official dates just moves when tampering will occur.  The only "solution" is to get rid of the rules all together save for the trade deadline.

It's probably what should happen and exactly why it will not happen.  It would effect too many dominoes.

Ha, yeah that would be interesting and fun chaos for sure. I'd love to see it just to see what would happen.

Didn't something similar (on a smaller scale) happen last year with the bucks?

How are they going to prove it? Butler organized a little get together with Lowry, Dragic and Achiuwa. They negotiated the details between themselves, then informed Ujiri and Riley that the Dragic option is picked up, Lowry gets 85/3 and Achiuwa a fresh start. Which is obviously not illegal, since LeBron held a free agency party two months ago, invited all his friends for some fondue and friendly chatter.

It´s Miami picking up the option. There will be something find by tracking the cell phones, laptops etc. The Heat aren´t picking up this option without being sure the Raptors will take it as salary.

I'd give away Green but not Terry.  I'm not even enamored with the idea of Dragic, I just don't think Green is going to pan out.
