RE: AROUND the NBA: Zion rehabbing apart from team | POR shutting Lillard down - cow - 01-11-2022 (01-11-2022, 07:18 PM)BackToSquareOne Wrote: I think they'd have to sign and waive. It might work for this season as it's just a straight upgrade of tobias for AD, but the salary cap for next year looks grim. Might be worth the risk??? In my mind the trade is Tobias for Westbrook and AD for Simmons. AD is still hurt and always a massive injury risk. Even if the twin towers approach works, that's a lot of injury risk between the two. The plus side is, you could easily flip AD again next year. The Tobias contract is terrible and I do think he's skirted some blame for his underperforming because of all the Simmons drama, but player for player or contract for contract, I'd take him over Westbrook 11 out of 10 times. I don't think the 76ers have a great shot at a championship this year, but adding Westbrook punts any opportunity you'd have for the next two years. The question becomes, when does Embiid get fed up? I don't think the Lakers would trade AD anyway. Warts and all, he's the long term and I have a hard time seeing Ben Simmons as a cornerstone. Other ideas for trading Simmons and Tobias Harris: Poking through team salaries, combined with bad contracts: Utah: Gobert and Mitchell While Rudy's contract isn't great, the team is performing well. Can't see them blowing it up to get Simmons/Harris. Charlotte: Hayward, Oubre, and Rozier Doesn't fix the Charlotte center problem. Houston: Wall, Eric Gordon, Jalen Green Seems like Houston would have to throw more into the deal to interest Philly. At least Wall's bad contract only lasts another year and a half, whereas Simmons' is four. Cleveland: Kevin Love, Rubio, Jarrett Allen Doesn't seem like it works, roster-wise for Philly. Allen is redundant with Embiid, Rubio also doesn't shoot, and Love doesn't play defense. Toronto: Siakam, Dragic, Anunoby I can't figure out who gets the best of this deal. Boston: Tatum or Brown, Horford, Smart Sounds like Boston wants to hang on to both Tatum and Brown, so can't see them doing this. Sacto: Hield, Fox, and Bagley or Holmes The emergence of Halliburton makes Fox expendable. Would Hield's defensive weaknesses be helped by Embiid's paint protection? And would Philly want another non-shooting point guard? You could arguably think of it from Philly's perspective as KP for Harris and THJ + cap relief for Simmons, which may not be such a bad offer depending on what else is on the table. Wouldya? Sign. JB (great) but is 33% from 3. That is your "surround Luka with shooting and defence" team? Ben needs the ball in his hands in the paint (if he theoretically is going to dunk it). Tobias needs the ball in his hand and will drive to the paint. JB needs to drive into the paint. What is this plan on offence? Or is the idea that a team with Luka-JB at guard is going to be so elite defensively that scoring won't matter. Ok, ok. It's just all going to be 19 second Luka crab-dribbles and step back threes all the way down? And this year he is still shooting better from 3 than KP. (01-11-2022, 09:04 PM)BackToSquareOne Wrote: What is this plan on offence? Spread the floor and share the ball. Run pick and rolls with Luka and BS. Or with others and let BS hang in the dunker's spot and cut as well. There is a lot to unpack here, but for starters you got Capela going to Pacers. How does that work with Sabonis? Someone of that size playing with reckless abandon is a recipe for injury. I hope he is a bit more careful. Negative on/off numbers. For sure. But MEM is outscoring their opponents by +1.6 when Ja has played this year....Luka is -2.1. On/Off Ja is -4.2, Luka is -8.4. And beyond that I have just been really impressed with Ja's growth. He is shooting 57.6% TS% (Luka is at 53.4%). But just like Luka he needs a lot of growth defensively still. TO BE CLEAR: I am not saying Ja is better than Luka or that I would take him over Luka. But the comparison is no longer laughable and both sides have a case to make. I still think the comparison is laughable. I don't think 30 games of all-star play upends the 3 year body of work Luka has shown. Have we forgotten what Luka does in the playoffs? Sure Ja is no slouch there either, but Luka still bests Ja in literally every single category. I think it's good to give Morant props for playing very well. Don't see why we're bringing Luka down to prop Morant up. |
