RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 12-31-2021 (12-29-2021, 09:28 PM)Tyler Wrote: Nah -- there's no way I help the Lakers like that. And if we are open to trading Brunson, I'm confident we can do better. Yeah I kind of think we somewhat underestimate the potential of the Brunson performances. I have just looked up the games he has started this year. In his 15 starts, but his stats are eye-popping. I don´t see much of a difference to a Brogdon or Fox. 19.7 PPG 7.1 APG 3.9 RPG 55.8% FG 36.2% 3pt FG 77.4% To ball-park it. I think a trade package around Brunson (without any additional picks) could land Myles Turner outright. I think Cleveland would trade Sexton for Brunson straight up and might throw in something extra. I have no doubt he´ll get into the $15-17M per year range. He´s just 25. He´s lightly raced, too. He´s a proven winner. We cannot lose this asset for nothing. That´s for sure. He either needs to yield a serious trade return or he needs to be extended. I think if Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard really pushed for a Mavs deal, that their teams would consider Brunson as the young core piece + THJ to match salaries, + DFS/Kleber (as additional 3rd team pick generators) + additional own picks. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mikelo - 12-31-2021 Brunson is nowhere near the value of Turner ... especially expiring ... (And I love Jalen) ... It is much easier to find a guard (no matter how good he is) than the best Shot Blocker in the NBA that hits + -40% of 3 .. I have Jalen with similar value to Cam Johson / PJ Washinton or Reddish (at best) and I would trade it for any of the 3..especially Johnson / Reddish .. some.. Maxi to Lakers .. Wood/Nunn to Mavs THT / Brunson to Houston RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 12-31-2021 (12-31-2021, 09:49 AM)Mikelo Wrote: Brunson is nowhere near the value of Turner ... especially expiring ... I have Jalen with similar value to Cam Johson / PJ Washinton or Reddish (at best) and I would trade it for any of the 3..especially Johnson / Reddish .. some.. Well I looked it up. There are 11 players that average more than Brunson´s 7.1 APG as a starter. Here are their average salaries 44.1M 42.8M 41.8M 34.5M 30.0M 29.5M 27.0M 25.0M 15.5M 8.2M 7.0M If you want that player to also average more than Brunson´s 19.7 PPG.... ...the list becomes James Harden, Trae Young, Damian Lillard and Nikola Jokic. If it´s that easy, you should call Nico and tell him how we can easily get one of those four, cause I sure like to have them. The lowest paid player that is not on a rookie contract is at $15.5M per year. That´s Dejounte Murray. I think it´s a mistake to underestimate the (trade) value of his recent performances. It´s certainly a pipedream to think Brunson will settle for $10M/year. It might actually work in our favour (in a worst case). Even the often quoted Knicks have committed salaries of $110M. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - SleepingHero - 12-31-2021 Can we stop with trades that give the Lakers anything useful? Let them rot. Just a quibble but the Mavs are in a big market but I wouldn't consider them a big market team. That's certainly not how the rest of the league views them. I put that on Mark Cuban's shoulders and it's why the team needs new ownership. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - StepBackJay - 12-31-2021 (12-31-2021, 01:26 AM)F Gump Wrote: That's only relevant to him if he sells the team. Plus, Cuban seems intent on keeping the Mavs as a legacy asset means the growing "fair market value" of the Mavs won't ever be realized by him at all. I am not saying he should lose like a billion dollars a year or anything but owners are dishonest sometimes when they say they aren't making money (referring to yearly P&L). An appreciating asset grows wealth. Cubes is not short on liquidity so he doesn't need or want to sell the franchise. https://www.si.com/nba/2018/09/21/nba-teams-revenue-spending-breakdown-small-large-market This is old but says basically half of expenses are payroll. So Mavs payroll is like 120ish, double that would be 240. Their revenue is around 300 mil: https://www.statista.com/statistics/196710/revenue-of-the-dallas-mavericks-since-2006/ So maybe they make a profit or break even but the franchise appreciates every year. Cubes doesn't own the Mavs to make money per se, my guess is that he would own the Mavs even if it lost him money bc NBA teams are rich guy toys. That being said he is not losing money at all. Because I bet that’s another $100 million right there, so if “payroll” means roster PLUS that, and THAT number = half of what it costs to run the team… RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - mvossman - 01-01-2022 (12-30-2021, 11:54 AM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Listened to the end of yesterdays locked on podcast on my drive home. Jake Kemp mentioned that Cuban might be willing to pay the tax just to send Luka the signal that he is all in on winning. And also to save face and show that he knows what he is doing. If he pays the tax next season, it will be hard to see him avoid paying it the following season. I don't see them letting their entire big man rotation (other than KP) walk without addressing it somehow. Also wonder if Frank might be worth an MLE by then. They would likely have to give up talent on the team to get under the tax. If they are not doing that next year, don't see them doing it the year after. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - SleepingHero - 01-01-2022 Throwing this out there: Would you guys do Powell+WCS for Bertans + a 1st+ a 2nd ? Just curious as to where y'all stand on Bertans value and if you'd eat that contract to get some assets. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - juanc - 01-01-2022 Serious question for all the Buddy Hield fans on this board. How do you like Buddy after his stellar play in the last 2 games against the Mavs? 4/12 FG, 2/8 3FG, 11 points together. And amazing defense!!! Everytime I see Buddy play defense a little piece of my heart goes black. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - juanc - 01-01-2022 Oh and I need to say a few things about my boy Josh Green. Watching the past few games and I am more and more impressed with his understanding of the game(especially on offense). There are so many little things that he shows/makes, that have the potential to make a huge difference. And what once were only flashes that he has shown, are now stretches, and that is huge IMO. I made a few screenshots, since I have a problem with my video editor(If anyone has any suggestion on a free video editor(just to cut some footage) feel free to recomend it! ) For example this play. He immediately recognizes that KP is left alone for a second and about to have a missmatch in the post and gives a sign to Bullock. Great at recognizing advantages and communicating. This play was at around 6:10 in the 2nd quater. Now we all know that he is a good cutter, but let me tell you something else. He is great! Once again great at realizing that his defender has lost him, he cuts and then our favourite former Mav HB has no other choice than to help. Which leaves DFS wiiiiiiiideeeeeeee open for the 3. So this are just 2 examples that really stood out to me... As for the other aspects of his game... First of all let me say, that he basically had no offseason to work on his game. The first year was the COVID lockdown, a really uniqe situation, and the last offseason, he was with the Aussies at the Olympics. There are no major tournaments this year, so he should have time to work on his game this following offseason. I think there are 2 major aspects of his game that need to be polished: 1st one is ballhandling - He gets sloppywith the ball and attacking the basketball. A better handle would work miracles for him. It would be easier forhim toattack the basket, to pass, basically everything would be easier. 2nd one is shooting and I think that I don't need to explain that part. He was able to shoot in college, he can hit his freethrow, he just needs to work on it,becouse he has shown in the previous years that he can shoot. So that's it! RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mikelo - 01-01-2022 Hield has a long NBA career ... he can have a broader view of who he is than a sample of a couple of games ... He is a limited guy..but shooting 40% in + than 10 attempts out of 3, .. are numbers, only surpassed by the alien Curry..I would take it on Tim, every day (36% of run in fewer attempts and I improve together to Luka) .. he is a role player and will only shine in an environment suitable for him ... curious to see him on our Mavs ... playing alongside Luka and see what he could do RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Chicagojk - 01-01-2022 It usually happens in wins against bad teams or brutal end of game losses, but there are times where I think if we add one more really good 4 (front court player) that this team isn't far off. All this factors in a healthy Luka, a heathy KP, Luka and KP merging their talents and combining their powers, and solid three point shooting. I know, that is a lot. For sake of this argument, lets say Jerami Grant (I am not sold he is the answer). Add him to this team. lets say for Hardaway, Maxi (would prefer to keep him) and picks and pick swaps. Also lets say we get Goran as a buyout. That is an interesting team. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Chicagojk - 01-01-2022 I am curious...when everyone is healthy. Who do you think is higher on the depth chart: Frank or Josh? https://twitter.com/iztok_franko/status/1476962210693922817 https://twitter.com/iztok_franko/status/1477248888872574980 https://twitter.com/iztok_franko/status/1477249861770690569 https://twitter.com/iztok_franko/status/1477251982448545796 RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Kammrath - 01-01-2022 "This season Mavs have three defenders (Bullock, Ntilikina, Green) who are good at defending the pick as a on-ball defenders." Yep. Very much seen in the data. JG, FN, and RB are three of the top 4 "pluses" in defensive On/Off. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - aguiar95 - 01-01-2022 I know this is hard after a great game by Reggie, but what would y'all feel about a Knox for Bullock swap? RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 01-01-2022 My (realistic) rotation for the rest of the season would be Doncic/Ntilikina Brunson/Brown Bullock/Green DFS/Powell Porzingis/Kleber Then I´d try to get an expiring contract/and or a prospect for THJ. I think the best line-ups to actually win games this year would see Doncic come off the bench with four defenders in Ntilikina, Brown, Green and Kleber. To me doubling the payroll is an easy enough way to ballpark expenses. https://www.si.com/nba/2018/09/21/nba-teams-revenue-spending-breakdown-small-large-market RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - SamStetz - 01-01-2022 While there are some hurdles in the way of Dragic potentially returning to the Heat, it certainly sounds like Miami is where the 35-year-old wants to be. “Don’t kid yourself, Goran Dragic would love nothing more,” wrote Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel regarding a possible Dragic reunion with Miami. “He attended the Heat’s Tuesday victory over the [Washington] Wizards at FTX Arena and has been working out there, as his situation with the Raptors is sorted out. But, again, unless Goran goes to another team in the interim, he cannot be brought directly back by the Heat from the Raptors. With all due respect to Mario Chalmers, Goran is exactly what the Heat could use at the moment. But I doubt many, if any, have had second thoughts about utilizing his salary as the means to acquire Kyle Lowry.” – via Sam Leweck @ Heat Nation |
