RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - SleepingHero - 11-08-2021 (11-08-2021, 02:45 AM)Mikelo Wrote: What about D.Theis ... enters the TPE ... a profile similar to Maxi, .. Powell / Green / Brown for Theis / House ?? .. Gordon could also be interesting Hard to believe CHI moves on from Theis especially after losing Williams for the season. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - sefant - 11-08-2021 (11-08-2021, 03:37 AM)SleepingHero Wrote: Hard to believe CHI moves on from Theis especially after losing Williams for the season. He signed for the MLE with the Rockets. I suggested Theis on the discord yesterday. Probably better rim protector than Kleber, worse shooter. He would be a decent pickup, if you can get him for "cheap". RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - Mikelo - 11-08-2021 Ami personally I like it, yes ... as you say, even a better defender than Maxi, can change in defense and although he is not a specialist in 3 like Maxi, he can kick a 3 .. I have no idea what it would consist of, I doubt that it is very expensive .. Powell / Burke / Green for Gordon / Theis .. it works economically .. we substantially improve the roster .. Houston saves a lot of money in the long run and do they get a prospect on Green? RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - ItsGoTime - 11-08-2021 Theis is also a good option. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - SleepingHero - 11-08-2021 (11-08-2021, 03:49 AM)sefant Wrote: He signed for the MLE with the Rockets. Wow I had a mega brain fart and totally forgot about that. Heck we even saw him play against us as a Rocket... I need more coffee. IN any case, my interest is piqued. I like Theis a heck of a lot more than Powell. He's a FANTASTIC PnR big, clocking in at a 1.32 points per possession there, which is the 80th percentile. Contrast that with a guy like Capela or Holmes who are both in the mid 60's percentile. Powell this year is at 1.14 ppp, which is 53rd percentile. Acquiring Theis means that we almost certainly have to move on from Powell or WCS, perhaps both. The question is do the Rockets find WCS more attractive? He's an expiring contract with cheaper money. Mavs could WCS for Theis in a 1-1 swap. I don't see why the Rockets would be motivated to keep him. A more realistic deal would be WCS+Green or Burke for Theis. Does adding either make it too much of an asset investment? I'm not sure. But I do think he'd be a fantastic sneaky pickup so good call. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - michaeltex - 11-11-2021 DAL started with a surfeit of big men which have not been a strong suit... KP - some positives, but is just now starting his season after extended back injury. Jury is still out, although nobody is using unicorn references now. Better mobility, but still doesn't post well, even with smaller defenders. DP - Some positives, but defensively doesn't seem to be helping. Spacing with KP is problematic. Sometimes acts like a 3&D guy without either the 3 or the D. Maxi - Everyone's favorite. Works hard. Missing several games with back strain. Severely missed in lineup rotations. WCS - Has always been spotty, but seems to be unable to make much contribution so far this year. Moses - Not much playing time. High energy. Apparently good rebounder. Wonder if he could be the new DP-type pogo stick lob partner for Luka and Jalen. I guess I'm suggesting that Moses gets some of the minutes we are wasting on WCS and that everyone wish hard for Maxi to get healthy. Still trying to wrap my head around why we're paying WCS $4.2 million this season At no point did that make any sense RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - mvossman - 11-12-2021 (11-11-2021, 02:22 PM)michaeltex Wrote: DAL started with a surfeit of big men which have not been a strong suit... Seems like that trade somebody on here suggested of WCS/Green for Theis would make a ton of sense for this team. We bring in a player with "force" who is a dominate rim runner, can shoot the occasional 3 and a good defender. That really cleans up the big rotation with Theis/Powell at the 5 and KP/Maxi at the 4. You also open up a roster spot to sign a bought out Dragic. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - Tyler - 11-12-2021 (11-11-2021, 02:25 PM)Jym Wrote: Still trying to wrap my head around why we're paying WCS $4.2 million this season Remember Josh McRoberts? And did you hear about the S&T deal they discussed involving Redick this summer? Even if a trade never materializes, it's normal to hang onto expiring contracts for the potential flexibility they offer in the trade market. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - Tyler - 11-12-2021 (11-12-2021, 10:09 AM)mvossman Wrote: Seems like that trade somebody on here suggested of WCS/Green for Theis would make a ton of sense for this team. Agreed. Another guy I'm keeping an eye on is Nurkic. Nurkic clearly has no intention of staying in Portland after this season, and the same WCS/Green offer is exactly the minimum amount of salary required to trade match. There are a lot of guys in that range that could really shore up the big rotation (with the potential added bonus of shooting WCS into the sun). I think almost everyone here would make that deal. Tougher question. Would you add KP and McCollum to the deal and replace Willie with Brunson? KP/Green/Brunson For Nurkic/McCollum Interesting note, the projected W/L doesn’t change for either team. BTW, this leaves us $11.6mm under the tax which is just enough room to spend the remaining TPE on something and stay under. Would you add KP and McCollum to the deal and replace Willie with Brunson? Very interesting hypothetical. I don't know if I'd do it. I honestly think Brunson might be on his way towards becoming better than CJ, if he isn't already (maybe I'm overrating Brunson, or maybe I'm not fully taking to heart the idea that he might be gone this summer no matter what). I also think the Mavs already have a guy similar to CJ in THJ. So, the resulting roster would seem to have too many of those. I do realize that these are nitpicky things, though. I could be way out to lunch with this thinking. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - DanSchwartzgan - 11-12-2021 (11-12-2021, 06:48 PM)chaparral Wrote: Balkan In - Baltic Out = a yes for me. So, no “balking” on your part. A couple of thoughts….Nurkic has his own history of injuries and is expiring this summer (which is good if he isn’t and bad if he is…good). Are we sure the next three years of McCollum is that much better than the next three years of Brunson…though it does solve the issue of Brunson walking this summer. Is it easier to build around Nurkic than KP? Will Nurkic get run off the floor in the playoffs? He’s a very good defensive rebounder and defends his position well. But, what happens when he’s put in the PNR against a small ball team? With all that said, I like the deal as a win now deal. The starting lineup would be great. Nurk/Powell DFS/Maxi THJ/Bullock CJ/Frank Luka/CJ? RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE - chaparral - 11-12-2021 (11-12-2021, 07:05 PM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: So, no “balking” on your part.
