RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - michaeltex - 10-19-2021 (10-19-2021, 09:43 AM)Kammrath Wrote: Great question. I agree about the defense part, but his 3pt shot is inconsistent. Shot as high as 0.391 (38 games, 8 mpg) and as low as 0.265 (81 games, 21.5 mpg) since coming into the league. I don't know about the quality of his shots, maybe Luka's gravity would get him better looks. Conversely, can you get more out of THJ defensively? Maybe the new culture and focus on defense will lift everyone? Maybe the new culture and focus on defense will lift everyone? I definitely think it will. I really think the Mavs can only get better on the defensive end. I feel like they were playing at the bottom of their potential last year. I just think Murray is of a talent and age and fit that you go get him if you can. But I also think the Mavs don't NEED to do something at this point. I was one of the few who were solidly content with the offseason they just had. I still have KP questions, but am excited to see him with a different coach and attitude. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - TXBamanut - 10-19-2021 I listened to Lauren Gunn talk about her article on MMB podcast, and her point re: Satoransky wasn't an upgrade on Burke, but starting next to Luka...all of these guys would be viewed as starters to get the full effect, so I think Satoransky or Murray would replace THJ or DoeDoe in the lineup, which depending on who you trade, pushes Bullock/Brown/Brunson and others down the rotation. I'm not against any of them at the right price, but, Washington and Bagley are meh to me, and the ones I'd go with (1- Murray, 2-Satoransky) I'm not sure they are clear "put you over the top" moves, which is what I think the Mavs should be thinking that they are. I'm not against the moves, but it's not going to be for bench players, I sincerely doubt that. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - cow - 10-19-2021 Bagley as a reclamation project will always interest me. That's certainly the biggest upside move. Murray is probably the best/safest move. He actually did in one of the threads, but I'd say that wasn't his focus . Most of his statements in that little twitter storm seemed reasonably okay with me - but it still stands that he shouldn't have made them at all ... On the other hand we read from others every now and then who they might have had a trade for at hand or might have made a pick if only ... So there's that . RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - HAguiar95 - 10-23-2021 I really don't think we realize how much better the PHO/UTA teams are than ours. Watching the games last night, they are light years ahead. Having multiple guys that can drive/kick/score makes it so much easier to play the game. On and Off ball movement on point. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - loki - 10-23-2021 (10-23-2021, 06:56 AM)HAguiar95 Wrote: I really don't think we realize how much better the PHO/UTA teams are than ours. Watching the games last night, they are light years ahead. Having multiple guys that can drive/kick/score makes it so much easier to play the game. On and Off ball movement on point. Agreed. The Mavs are way behind, and we really shouldn't be surprised given that they decided to punt on 3 offseasons in a row. Maybe this year will serve as a wakeup call. I can't see them performing any better than the 47 win pace from 2 seasons ago or the 48 win pace from last season. It's essentially the same roster with a massive downgrade in coaching. At least they own their 1st round pick this year in case things really go south. They traded for CP3 and Conely without giving up much. We are still waiting for this kind of trade. Conley was traded for Crowder, G. Allen (1st round pick, after rookie season) and two protected/late 1st round picks. CP3 was traded for Rubio, Oubre, T. Jerome (1st round pick, after rookie season) and a first round pick. OKC then turned Oubre into a minimum of two 2nd round picks (could be a 1st and a 2nd) + used Rubio to move up eight spots in the draft (25 to 17) to pick Pokusevski. That´s hardly nothing. Of course it feels like nothing, if you have a lot of talent already and additional picks, too. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - khaled1987 - 10-23-2021 Mavs traded their whole war chest for KP and Luka, we basically gave 2017,2018,2019,2021,2023 for those 2 players. What we failed to do is adding few good players in FA to build around those 2, beside KP not being the success we imagined he was. KP should have been the cherry-on-top after years of high round draft picks and development but Cuban is impatient. It's doubly panful considering that KP's tenure in Dallas has been a bust. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - omahen - 10-27-2021 So if Brunson wants to be a lead guard, which teams have the need? So that we can trade him before summer Perhaps Detroit as Hayes has been a dissapointment so far. But probably they will give him another season. Would Detroit consider trading Grant, who will be expiring next season? New York was rumored to be interested. But they have Kemba and Rose. Still perhaps? Brunson for Knox and our 2023 pick? Would Houston give up on their Porter Jr as PG experiment? LAC or LAL also look like possibilities, but I doubt Mavs would do business with them. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 10-27-2021 The idea of trading Brunson this season kind of sucks because he's making less than 2 mil so can't really bring much back but is there any incentive in a sign and trade this offseason if he tells management he wants to go start somewhere? Grant would be an awesome haul and honestly if we did that we would probably trade finney too because Bullock/Grant/Finney would be quite the logjam at wings. The name I keep coming back to when it comes to trading Brunson is Dejounte Murray. Feels like lots of rumors around his name the last season or two and he would fit nicely next to Luka (at least defensively). Jalen would be a difficult guy to trade due to his contract status (years and $). I will be very disappointed if he is not resigned. He looks so in control on the court this year and continues to get better. If he wanted to start, I would explore moving him to starter and moving Hardaway to super 6 man. That may be a difficult to decision to have with Hardaway though. When there was talk that Goran may wind up here during the offseason, I really thought the best way to make it work was to us Luka and Jalen as your starting backcourt and then bring Hardaway and Goran off the bench. The Jalen and Hardaway minutes will still be the same, but I think both Jalen and Hardaway play well off Luka. I am a huge fan of Brunson's game. I expect him to be retained. However, when you think about it, cashing in on him as a trade chip while he's on the way up wouldn't be the worst thing ever, imo. He's very small, and not very quick for his size. Now, I won't argue that this holds him back because I don't feel that's the case, BUT he overcomes those problems by treating his body with reckless abandon. Have you ever noticed that something like 3/4 of his drives (many of which result in impressive scores) end with him completely leaving his feet and falling hard onto the floor out of bounds? I honestly don't know that his career peak (which I totally don't think we've even reached yet, to be as fair as possible) will last very long, and I doubt the last 3rd of his career will be all that impressive. I could be wrong - he might get really smart and go out like Chris Paul or Kyle Lowry, but I don't know if I confidently see him in the same light as those guys. I could totally get behind moving him in the right deal. It would have to be the RIGHT DEAL though. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - ItsGoTime - 10-27-2021 Christian Wood and Eric Gordon works salary-wise for KP. We might have to sweeten that pot a bit with maybe a Green level asset? I don’t think Grant is going anywhere, but if we can swing him here for JB and other significant assets, I’d LOVE a Wood/Grant duo! RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | DAL has $10.866M TPE - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 10-27-2021 (10-27-2021, 01:45 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I am a huge fan of Brunson's game. I expect him to be retained. It's kind of crazy watching him play because after watching him mess up his shoulder I get worried every time he takes it to the hoop but honestly he wouldn't be getting buckets if he didn't play that way so it just kind of is what it is. If there is a trade out there that nets us someone of significance I'd be all for it but in my eyes I don't even know how you get that done with the way the contracts are currently structured and our lack of ability to throw a ton of first round picks at a trade right now. Even if you said "Ok we're worried about retaining Brunson and Finney, let's package them with our only other young asset Green." that only gets you to 8M in outgoing contracts and adding Powell kind of waters the package down. It would take some creativity to make any trade this season make any sense right now.
