RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | rebounder priority for DAL, not Gobert? | LaVine? - ItsGoTime - 06-15-2022 (06-14-2022, 09:00 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I’ll believe it when I see it. If three players are going out via release, I have a tough time imagining Ntilikina and his non-guaranteed contract not being among them. I hope I’m wrong, but to be honest, I don’t think everything from your list will happen anyway. I’m more worried about reading the board after that pick gets traded than I am about Ntilikina getting released. (06-14-2022, 10:02 PM)Jommybone Wrote: Easy to say having not spoken to Luka about it. Perhaps Mavs know something you don’t know. And perhaps it was from Luka’s lips to God’s ears, eh?In all honesty, is there any confirmation that Luka has actually said at any time that he wants Boban to stay? First, that just doesn’t seem to be who Luka portrays himself to be. He’s been in the business of professional sports for more than half his life. He’s seen guys he likes come and go plenty. His mind is not so fragile that losing his best friend (if Boban is even in that conversation) would make him do something stupid. On top of that, even if Luka did make that demand at one time (or feel that kind of way), he just got close to reaching his ultimate goal. That’s got to be a catalyst for changing his mindset about this particular “demand” doesn’t it? I mean, he saw Kidd refuse to play Boban for a bit even when chants from the crowd demanded it. Also, who TF cares if Luka says don’t trade Boban? Why ask him? If you are getting a player that you believe, at some point, might help Luka get a championship, it would be all worth it. Holding on to Boban for Luka’s sake is no different than what Cleveland helped to create in the LeBron you see today. Don’t be like Cleveland! I really don’t understand how people can talk as if this is acceptable practice in a franchise FO/ownership. His mind is not so fragile that losing his best friend (if Boban is even in that conversation) would make him do something stupid. I doubt Luka and Boban are best friends. They are in very different stages in their life. Luka is young man in early twenties, in a relationship but not really having a family. Boban is a married man with kids. What bonds them is same language and coming from same culture. In this light they are closer to eachother then with other teammates. I completely agree with your overall take. In my opinion, Luka is fine as long as his teammates are treated fairly. If he would be so sensitive, than he would push for Boban playing time and we would see him play a lot (or at least more he did play). I think he understands fine this is business. I actually saw a quote a while ago, it was Cuban who wanted to keep Boban, because fans love him and he is a mascot. What is really more fair - enable Bobi to play somewhere or keep him for a mascot? If Luka really does care so much about his friends, there are likely other ways to keep them around. You can employ him as "director of player-fan interactions" or something and pay him 3 mil per year. Everyone happy. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | rebounder priority for DAL, not Gobert? | LaVine? - StepBackJay - 06-15-2022 I think Bobi basically plays out his contract and then gets some kind of ceremonial position to be Luka's friend RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | rebounder priority for DAL, not Gobert? | LaVine? - Branduil - 06-15-2022 I don't understand why you guys care so much about the 15th spot on the roster. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | rebounder priority for DAL, not Gobert? | LaVine? - Chicagojk - 06-15-2022 Chriss made a splash when he first arrived, but the more you watched of him the more warts you saw. He really needs to improve on defense and fouling if he wants to stick around for awhile. Being a guy the staff can count on with rotations and not making lazy fouls will be key. To give him the benefit of the doubt, it is tough to join a team in the middle of the year and pick everything up. The Mavs will need to decide if they want to invest in him for another year. I think they may look somewhere else, but maybe they decide he is worth investing in for a full season. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | rebounder priority for DAL, not Gobert? | LaVine? - Branduil - 06-15-2022 Okay. To me it's simply utter nonsense and hyperbole to say that Dallas having a 15th man who is Luka's friend is the same as everything Cleveland did in Lebron's first run. It’s not the degree/extent to which Cleveland went, but I’m sure Lebron didn’t start with anything big either. KL is right, if Boban is the least playable player on the roster, he should be the first person shipped out. It’s just become taboo to talk about getting rid of Boban on this site and I can’t understand why. Apparently this FO is intent on adding a 5th. I don't think it has any impact on this team whether we dump any of Brown, Chriss, Burke or Boban. Don’t be like Cleveland! I really don’t understand how people can talk as if this is acceptable practice in a franchise FO/ownership. There is a MASSIVE difference between these two things: 1) Holding onto Boban because Luka says he wants him around. 2) Holding onto Boban because you think Luka needs Boban's mature voice and influence in his life to keep growing up in the right direction. I think the Mavs will hold on to Boban because of the second, not because of the first. Also, who cares what you think too! That's a different argument if you want to actively dump them and replace with vet min guys. Most of the talk has been about which guy(s) do we dump when we bring in other specific players. I don't think it matters as long as you are pulling from that pool of 4. Frank is young and has shown some value, so it would be annoying if he gets dumped before any of those 4. But there are a lot of posts on here arguing over Burke vs Boban like it matters either way. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | rebounder priority for DAL, not Gobert? | LaVine? - dirkfansince1998 - 06-15-2022 It´s pretty simple. At least for me. The Mavs have five guys (Burke, Brown, Boban, Pinson, Chriss) that had no on court value for them last season. When it mattered they couldn´t make the rotation over Frank and Green. The Mavs also lack roster spots. For a rookie, the tax-payer MLE or any other potential scenario that I cannot imagine right now. Who knows maybe they make a bigger trade and give up players that I haven´t even mentioned. We all have our preferences but the important part is that at least three of them shouldn´t be on the roster next season. If you prefer to get rid of the mascots Boban and Pinson (two-way but included because of the rumors that the Mavs want him back) that´s fine. If you prefer to get rid of Kidd´s favorite Brown that´s fine. If you prefer to get rid of the most recent addition Chriss that´s fine. If you want to get rid of Burke you know more about basketball than @"KillerLeft". |
