RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL w/ $22.7-34.4M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - omahen - 07-28-2021 (07-28-2021, 02:15 PM)haveitall Wrote: The problem is he is a floor general like Luka and needs the Ball (just like Lowry). Could we stop with this Lowry needs the ball stuff. Lowry usage rate last two seasons has been in low twenties, below twenty % in Kawhi season and at max 26 % in his career. He was always playing next to one or more ball dominant players in Toronto and had no problem with it - DeRozan, Kawhi, FVV, Siakam,.. Lowry knows how to play on and off ball and will do what is best to win. How do you know any of the moves you would do are really even available? Do you think Mavs are that stupid that they had a sit down, point a finger to Lowry picture and said "bring him in"? I am sure they explored all possible and not possible alternatives. If Lowry is result, I am fine. I accept that every bigger move Mavs will want to do, will be "overpaid". -I'm not acting like free agency is a super market. -I know as much as you. See: nothing. -Are the Mavs stupid? No, but recent history points towards them being wildly unsuccessful in the free agent market. Nico is a rookie and is on his first few weeks on the job. I'm not hopeful our fortunes are going to be turned around this quickly. -It's not about being "overpaid". It's about investing your resources into the future and opportunity cost. -You can't always take a step forward. You can use your available resources in other ways to try and gain future assets. -Team building is a marathon, not a sprint. Doing nothing is not just risky, it is a zero output and self-fulfilling outcome. Lowry is not even the biggest risk that the Mavs would be managing, that ginormous risk is Kristaps Porzingis and his 5-year guaranteed max contract that additionally cost 2 future 1sts. Lowry is only seen as a big risk because the supposed number 2 guy is an injury-prone, jealous, pouting, 7’ 3” baby. Just a tangent, or is something going to NY? Are you saying NY is being paid two seconds FOR our 2023 pick back? Or, are you saying that NY is just lifting the protections? The latter doesn't give us the ability to trade 22 or 24. We have to actually have a pick in 23. Otherwise, I'm all good with SGA for KP and a bunch more picks to OKC. Wolves trade is a separate deal to get a 2023 first. Forgot to mention that the Wolves pick is their 2023 top 20 protected. But, we still can't trade 22 or 24 because Minnesota's top 20 protection means we might not have a pick in 23 (if I'm getting you). We have to either have our pick or we have to have a non-conditional pick from someone else. If there is any chance we might not have a pick, we can't send the pick before it or after it. Forgot to mention that the Wolves pick is their 2023 top 20 protected. This is not enough to trade 2022 and 2024. It has to be unprotected. If OKC would be willing to trade SGA, I am sure the simplest way would be for them to send us their worst 2023 pick which simultaneously allows us to trade 2022 and 2024. I am intrigued by thiese low salary rookie guys like Sexton (of course SGA too, but I don't believe he is available), because it would keep most of our cap space. Perhaps even increase it. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL w/ $22.7-34.4M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - dirkfansince1998 - 07-28-2021 (07-28-2021, 04:36 PM)omahen Wrote: SGA too, but I don't believe he is available) I only included the listed guys because they were mentioned in trade rumors in the last few days. According to the latest rumors Culver is available for a 2nd. Thunder tried to move up in the draft and offered SGA + #6 for #1. Mavs really need to get out of the pick depth to free up assets for a trade. Situation will already be better after tommorrows draft but it´s still not enough to offer a Jrue like package. Compensations like pick swaps aren´t doing anything when the other side knows that the Mavs will have Luka for at least one more contract. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL w/ $22.7-34.4M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - omahen - 07-28-2021 Here is a semi realistic three way to land Lowry and THJ. Cleveland reportedly wants to get out of long term salary making Nance and/or Osman available. Cle: JRich (11,6) Tor: Powell (11), Green (2,9), WCS (4,2) Dal: Lowry (28), Osman (8) We get a useful bench wing, operate over the cap and keep THJ. It also works by replacing Green and WCS with Maxi. Or send WCS to fourth team. Throw second rounders in if needed. Would be better if Toronto took Burke instead of WCS, but that would be really pushing it. He needs to pass it to teammates who can score, or roll to the basket. The only player who did that last season was Hardaway. The reason was that Dallas ran only 2 plays, drive and layup, or drive and kickout to shooters. They didnt run pick and roll, they didnt run any post ups. They barely cut to the basket. A smallish point guard won't get any of this done. I think perhaps the Mavs want to haveitall. They want Luka to be able to be the guy who scores 30 ppg because he's that good and he won't be able to be stopped when he's got help. But they also want him to be able to pick apart the defenses and be a lethal paged not be forced to have to score 30 every game. Basically teams have to pick their poison and Luka dominates you the other way. Every night. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL w/ $22.7-34.4M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - cjeter24 - 07-28-2021 So one thing I'm having a hard time comprehending is the Mavs being mentioned as being interested in every decent free agent. Before free agency even starts. That's not the typical thing we see from the Mavs front office before free agency. Mark is the guy who always wanted to keep what the Mavs were doing out of the news. That hasn't changed. Do we really think all these reporters have gotten legit sources from the Mavs new front office in just a few weeks? If it's the old sources, not hard to figure out who it is and have Cuban demand they stop. I'm beginning to think that most of everything we've heard the Mavs are interested in is complete and utter bs. It has sort of felt like that agents were using the Mavs as a team that was interested because they have cap space. Maybe the Mavs even okayed (seems unlikely with the short time frame that Nico has had to establish relationships and learn to play that game.) That also sort of explains why who the Mavs target changes on a day to day/week to week basis. I'm beginning to think whatever the Mavs do will be completely out of left field that has had very little mention around here. Or at least in recent weeks.
