I don't think Dudley is being brought in for his coaching acumen, but it's clear that he's a savant at managing personalities and creating a friendly locker room environment. For that attribute alone I'm really excited. His agent would have to be a complete moron to not have the team offers sorted by now. Maybe he just doesn´t want to go to a specific team, that has made the best offer to the Bulls. Why should the Bulls for example accept Powell and two second round picks, if the Pelicans offer the TPE option plus two of their ten Lakers/Bucks future 1st round picks (maybe lottery protected), that could actually be pretty good, because they are still 6-7 years in the future. Such a scenario is so much more likely than Markkanen´s salary demand being the hold-up. RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen | Jared Dudley as Asst Coach - Hypermav - 08-24-2021 https://twitter.com/LakersvHaters/status/1417228741424549888?s=20 I like this attitude. RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen | Jared Dudley as Asst Coach - Borkhan - 08-25-2021 I have personally accepted that neither Dragic nor Markanned will join mavs. Dragic is 35 and this is probably his last contract, so he will try to squeeze out of it as much as he can (as all players do). So, moneywise Dallas either does not have the money for him or does not want to pay him, what he wants. And, also, Raptors are in a dire need of a veteran pg with a proven pedigree and Dragic has it (and Raptors do not - their pgs are a work in progress) - so why would they buy him out and then watch, as he joins one of their rivals? Even stranger is the obsession with Markannen. At the end of the day that is the guy who: last four years played only 50 games per season, lost his starter position, has each year a diminishing number of points made, and (unproven) want an unrealistic, Schroeder-like contract. Yes, his shooting percentange is respectable and he is tall (over 2 meters), so he will make a fine addition to mavs overflowing/supernumerary/excessive number of tall men - especially those who play only 60 % of the games per season. If mavs is in a such dire need of giants, I checked, and for example Yao Ming and Tkachenko are both healthy, free and probably willing to take a cheap contract As usually, I freely admit that this is my personal opinion only and that I could/can/ought to/must/will/shall be proven wrong. RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen | Jared Dudley as Asst Coach - Kammrath - 08-25-2021 https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bulls/predicting-lauri-markkanen-saga-ending-bulls-final-roster-spots Quote:Is there any chance that there is already a verbal agreement for a sign-and-trade for Lauri and/or final signings to fill up remaining roster spots, but just not yet announced due to the ongoing tampering investigation? --- Gene Y. Quote:From Markkanen’s perspective, he didn’t return to his native Finland last offseason and trained here in Chicago, fully believing he’d sign a long-term extension with the Bulls. Then the two sides fell roughly $4 million apart annually in those discussions. Then management tried to trade him at the deadline. Then he lost his starting job....Markkanen isn’t a boat rocker. For him to even say as much he did in a postseason interview about being excited to explore the business side of basketball, and then strengthening it recently by telling that Finnish media outlet he wanted a fresh start, is a telling sign. He’s not lying. Quote:With salary cap space dried up around the league — save for the Oklahoma City Thunder — Markkanen now needs the Bulls’ cooperation in a sign-and-trade. Thus, the Bulls have leverage and can be selective and demanding in their return. For now, they’ve made clear in all proposals they’ve fielded from teams — and I’m told up to four teams have presented scenarios — that they’re seeking at least a first-round pick and no bad long-term money. Quote:For what it’s worth, my opinion is this: The Bulls have created a ton of positive momentum with their offseason moves. Why bring back a player who has made it clear he’d like to be elsewhere? To this point, the Bulls have turned down deals for Markkanen, who has had a sign-and-trade market. Maybe accept a less-than-perfect one to give both sides a fresh start, especially since it’s likely Markkanen would walk in unrestricted free agency next offseason. Quote:It’s a fluid situation. Stay tuned. RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen | Jared Dudley as Asst Coach - KillerLeft - 08-25-2021 Re: Markkanen, my opinion is that if the Mavs can get the player to come down to a signing price that they like AND the Bulls to accept a trade scenario that does not include either a current rotation player or a future first, it's a positive addition. "Addition" meaning adding to the roster talent, which is how they should be thinking. If the Mavs cave and give up in the game of chicken (which certain rumors seem to suggest is what's happening) I'll be very, very disappointed. I don't view him as enough of an upgrade over Kleber (or really any other rotation player) to justify shaking up the culture. I would see that as a lateral move that could potentially make the team worse in the short term (though I do comprehend that it might make sense longterm because of the players' ages). The DREAM is absolutely no future first and no rotation player.....but I personally like the move still even if Kleber is outgoing. But by no means do I WANT to lose Kleber. RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen | Jared Dudley as Asst Coach - luka_skywalker_77 - 08-25-2021 I think the overarching scenario is they move the dead weight, and clear the log jam at the center position. Anything that doesn't accomplish those things is an offseason failure. That doesn't mean moving Maxi, but it certainly means moving Powell and possibly WCS since neither can defend their position and are both semi useless offensively. That being said, I think Markkanen is a better talent than Kleber and younger and he's not ready for that role yet, but he's certainly better than Powell. I agree that thinning out the 5 spot should be a goal. I agree that it's possible to move Powell and/or WCS (and would've been possible to simply let Boban seek mascot employment elsewhere, but oh well). I do not agree that they'll move Powell in such a way that brings in a return of even a marginally useful player, let alone a moderately useful player like Markannen. I think the Powell/WCS and Markannen conversations are probably best had separately. I think its both clearing up the logjam at center, and more importantly getting an actual point guard. I think the intent was (and maybe still is) to handle this with a Dragic trade. If that trade does not play out, or next best option is probably DSJ. LM may be a better talent than Maxi, but he is a much worse fit, and if we are sending Maxi out so we can pay LM 15, I am totally out. WCS is mostly useless on offense, but he can defend his position. |
