RE: MAVS NEWS: JJB returning to organization | DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen - dirkfansince1998 - 08-19-2021 (08-19-2021, 08:46 AM)Moviemavguy Wrote: Why? We have like 5000 centers that can fill in for him. Kleber´s 3-point percentage in the last two seasons has been better than Markkanen´s. Doesn´t mean that he is the better shooter because his slow release limits his volume but going along with your take of shooting > everything else Maxi is the one of the 5000 centers the Mavs should keep. Add the fact that Maxi is the only big that can defend the perimeter and play next to anther big without hurting the team (see +/- numbers that were provided earlier) and it is easy to understand why people don´t want to trade him. The one thing that limits Maxi´s impact is his durabilty. It really feels like he cannot handle a 82g/30m starting role and is best suited for the first big of the bench role. Last season he had back problems. This season he was in and out out the rotation with achilles issues. Was more or less unplayable in the playoffs because he couldn´t move. I guess the question is, will the Bulls accept a minor asset for LM instead of just likely losing him next year for nothing. RE: MAVS NEWS: JJB returning to organization | DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen - RedFlag41 - 08-19-2021 Well, Maxi is one your best defenders in the team. He is a versatile big who can protect the rim, be a lob threat and shoot the open threes. In the context of fit within the team as currently constructed, he fits alongside KP way better than Lauri. A Lauri-KP front court pairing will be problematic defensively to say the least. When judging Maxi's playoff performance, you must take into consideration a few factors that may contributed to how he faired. One, he was coming off COVID19 infection. Two, he was suffering from an injury. He was not one hundred percent during the playoffs. In fact, he was doubtful of playing majority of the time before deciding to play in the games. Three, he was tasked of defending the likes of Kawhi Leonard during the playoffs which may have taken away from his offense as the series went on. RE: MAVS NEWS: JJB returning to organization | DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen - RedFlag41 - 08-19-2021 If the Mavs cannot acquire Lauri and/or Goran, who do you think should the Mavs try to acquire? Do you think there is any chance we can get Terrence Ross from Orlando since they are in a full rebuild/development mode. And, they have currently a logjam in their guard positions with Fultz and Suggs probably starts for them, and they still have Harris in SG. Maybe they would part ways with Terrence Ross in exchange for Josh Green, WCS, and Trey Burke? WCS may be insurance when they decide to trade Mo Bamba. JGreen may find playing time at SF behind Wagner. Terrence Ross may play the sixth man role for the Mavs and carry the scoring a little while Luka rests. Another three-point shooter is not a bad thing for the Mavs given that there is no apparent available secondary playmaker acquirable. Ross is a little more dynamic than THJ and can drive to the basket a little better. While he is a positive in the regular season where he gets more chances for his slow release shot due to worse defenses, he was a negative both playoff series. Mavs defense was (very) bad both playoff series in the last two seasons. Would adding another bad defender really be such a problem RE: MAVS NEWS: JJB returning to organization | DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen - Tikkun Olam - 08-19-2021 (08-19-2021, 09:05 AM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Kleber´s 3-point percentage in the last two seasons has been better than Markkanen´s. RE: MAVS NEWS: JJB returning to organization | DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen - Tikkun Olam - 08-19-2021 My concern is going into the season with DSF and Maxi as our starting forwards. Between them they average 16 points a game. Both of these players average around 30 minutes a game and neither of them average 10 points a game. That is problematic for me. If it were my decision neither would start. They are excellent bench pieces IMO. I do not have a soution so I will leave that to Dan. The players I liked are gone. I think this is a valid point regarding both of them starting, but I don't think that will be the case this year. My guess is Maxi will go back to the bench at low 20s minutes (where he is best suited). DFS as a fifth starter is just fine. The starting lineup will most likely be KP/DFS/Luka/Bullock/THJ. That lineup will be very good offensively, the only thing missing being a secondary playmaker. Hopefully that will be Dragic (still holding out hope) finishing with the starters. Maxi was struggling with an achillis issue this last playoff so I'm not sure I would hold that against him, and in both series he was over exposed getting put on Kawhi as the primary defender. I know you are joking, but I really hate the "our defense is so bad there is no point in worrying about it" argument. With Luka, we need as many guys we can get who can play good defense and don't kill you on offense. But Mavs surrounded him with THJ and KP, so that plan was already thrown down the trash. So I don't think you can hope having any kind of decent defense with them. They will be always exposed in playoffs, even if KP returns as best version of himself. Over 400 3’s next season right there Hired Kidd who is implementing a Vogel style defensive coaching strategy. KP can always be traded at any point in time. Maxi is our best defensive big and arguably the only one who can guard the perimeter in a perimeter dominated era. Maxi is gone then who is our best defensive big? WCS? Surely not KP, Bobi, DP or Markkanen Felt like we struggled all year, yet we finish 8th in offensive rating. 21st in defensive rating. It’s not hard to imagine we can be top 5 in offense. Contenders have a top 10 defense though Top teams in net rating: 3 best West playoff teams(Suns, Clips, Jazz) and the champion Bucks RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen | Kristi Toliver to be Asst Coach - fifteenth - 08-19-2021 (08-19-2021, 04:01 PM)omahen Wrote: I wasn't really joking. Luka, THJ and KP should all he able to play defense to some extent. If KP can move again, he should even be able to be pretty good. But even if all three are sub par, that still doesn't mean you give up in that end of the floor. Means Pistons now have 16 players under contract. Only realistic waive options is McGruder, which is hilarious. They bought out his non-guaranteed contract, then re-signed him to the minimum, now they´ll waive him again all in the span of three weeks. Unless they still plan to do a trade. Hayes? |
