And KP's contract isn't a huge negative?

BH is $23M, $21M, $19M the next three years.

KP is $32M, $34M, $36M the next three years.

The point of the trade is to make it after KP rebuilds his value. He actually makes some sense for Sactown in that case if they still want to have any hope for Bagley.

If you're just trading for Holmes+Heild it's basically the same as paying Holmes KP-type money. That would make zero sense when we could have just signed him for way cheaper.

...or to dump a player that never will rebuild his value, in which case I'd much rather pay that money to Holmes/Hield, myself.

Having said that, I don't think it's a particularly realistic scenario.

Huh?

It would be replacing KP's salary with Holmes (an elite rim-runner and mobile defensive big man) AND Hield (an elite floor spacer who has shot 41% from three on 6.1 attempts per game for his career).

You don't think SAC would want to turn Holmes+Hield (who is unhappy there) into KP?

RE: MAVS NEWS: JJB returning to organization | DAL "definitely interested" in Markkanen - Branduil - 08-17-2021

The Mavs could have easily gotten Holmes this offseason if that was a priority. They clearly do not have the interest in him that some of us have.

Heild is THJ with a bad attitude, he would be a huge albatross here.

Not even a little bit, no.

But that's me. KP would be one of the last 3-4 players I'd want if I ran an NBA team. Who knows what the clown owner (Vivek?) thinks about anything, I guess.

Well, we basically know they had interest, but as to the amount of interest I think the above rings true.

FIFY.

Hield has shot 41% from three for his career. THJ has shot 36% from three for his career. Hield has been a MUCH better shooter.

KP getting paid like he's a top 5 player, yikes....

And yet the Kings have had tremendous difficulty offloading his contract. Team chemistry is important, teams don't want malcontents.

My trade offer would be

KP+Bullock+Terry

for

Halliburton+Holmes+Heild

-Both teams gets two starters who fit with their stars, one an elite role player and the other with star potential

-Both teams take the other's bad contract

-Both teams get bench shooting (potentially)

Sacramento will not trade Haliburton for that offer.

I don't know how likely it is, but I think it's more likely than Dallas trading KP for a guy they could have had for $12 million this offseason.

1 how is there real advantage in a system that other teams/agents can see, and in them KNOWING you are using it to form your value decisions (while you don't know what THEY will be using)
2 if this system is so great, why are you alerting other teams to your use of it so that you get no advantage, rather than just keeping your mouth shut while you use it and get ahead
3 what value is there in making a big deal about how you'll be underpaying Bullock by about 25% while you want him to be eager to be even better

The edge comes from no one knowing what you're doing. But to do that, you can't tell the world how smart you are, and brag about what your new secret sauce is.

The more you talk, the less advantage you have. So we talk.

I think that many things about Donnie's departure and Nico's hiring, including how Cuban's rhetoric has changed post transition, has vindicated things that you've been saying for a long time about the Mavs front office. So you have a track record of being on point regarding front office critique. And any comment from me comes from me on this particular topic is informed by very little information (basically this thread).

Having said all that, my sheepish answer to all your questions above is just this (which is kind of what I already said): I don't think information gathering is the same thing as the actual valuation. My critique, or unexpert advice to the Mavs, would be to not limit your research to just one, third party, source.

Right, I think that was the point.

Spurs contract with ZC.....3 yrs/$22M

Stein report on what LM wants.....3 yrs/$45M

What the DAL TPE can offer......3 yrs/$36M
