RE: MAVS NEWS: Dragic likely to NOT be bought out? | JJB returning to organization - fifteenth - 08-16-2021 (08-16-2021, 10:14 AM)Kammrath Wrote: I 100% support both options. I think "peak Maxi" is behind us and the Mavs cashing in that developed player for a younger project with more potential is the right way to go IMO. Seems like healthy Maxi, which includes his past few years of experience, could be peak Maxi again. I can understand having doubts that he can stay healthy, since he's been injured the past two years, but at 29 years old, I don't understand why "peak Maxi" would be dead and gone, unless he hasn't been able to fully heal. He doesn't mention what the other 60-70% means. It seems like he was just throwing out a #. He also mentioned another exec asked him if Dallas was holding out Green due to a future trade inclusion. Cato doesn't believe this to be the case but doesn't offer hard evidence either. I don't have any hard evidence to back up my opinion on this. I just think we have already seen his best. I could be dead wrong. It is just a gut feeling. I just think the Mavs have had a long history of holding on to their assets too long and letting them depreciate. I hope Nico changes that and cashes in on the Mavs assets more regularly. I don't see the offensive ceiling. The shot is a work in progress. He has no handles. He's a poor finisher in traffic. I do see some vision/passing ability. Agreed. I got ripped on for comparing Green to Justin Anderson when we drafted him. From what we've seen so far if anything, he's a poor man's Justin Anderson. We're on the clock to put a good team around Doncic, Green's two years away from being two years away if that. We need guys who can help now RE: MAVS NEWS: Dragic likely to NOT be bought out? | JJB returning to organization - ItsGoTime - 08-16-2021 (08-16-2021, 10:51 AM)Kammrath Wrote: I don't have any hard evidence to back up my opinion on this. If he has to start, he needs to stick to that 22 mpg. Any more than that and he turns into a pumpkin. He is at his plateau. He turned out to be a great athlete that didn't really have an NBA level gameI'd say Maxi is center height, but he doesn't use that weight like a center IMO. He and Powell constantly get pushed around. I think that's their issue with rebounding. RE: MAVS NEWS: Dragic likely to NOT be bought out? | JJB returning to organization - sefant - 08-16-2021 Paying Lauri 15 mil a year (> TPE money), while giving up Maxi screams Seth Curry part 2. Luka better comes back after the summer looking like Ben Simmons, if the plan is a Lauri/KP FC. Start both and hope defense is better than the Blazers? He had 2 down years in a row. 15 mill is an overpay. Handing out contracts based on potential is dangerous. You are giving up a starter for a development project, who drawn as much interest as Dennis Schroeder in free agency. Personally i dont think DFS should play full time starting PF. If the idea is to bring Lauri of the bench. Luka better comes back after the summer looking like Ben Simmons, if the plan is a Lauri/KP FC. Start both and hope defense is better than the Blazers? Aren´t we overrating "starter" Maxi Kleber a bit? I know all the good stuff he does, but he also averaged 1.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 0.5 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.0 BPG shooting 9/11/100 (one FT) over the last four play-off games in the Clippers series. Those are numbers that would make Andre Roberson look bad. A trade does leave us with the TPE that we can use to trade for a player at the deadline, that would be bought out otherwise. Say Favours wants to keep his whole 9.8M salary and in a vet min buyout the Thunder still have to pay him like $7M. If the Mavs offer the Thunder the TPE + $6M in cash, they save $3.2M. I think that´s a pretty easy decision to make for the Thunder. Call me crazy but Markkanen/Favours > Kleber. Assuming Dragic really wants to come here after a buyout, our play-off team could look like this: Luka/Dragic Bullock/Brunson DFS/THJ Powell/Markkanen Porzingis/Favours Mix and match, whatever you need. I don´t know, but that looks like a team that might have a chance to compete for the title, if everything goes perfectly. It´s certainly a team that is not immediately dead and buried in the 1st round again, if Porzingis suffers another injury.
