RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | 20-7 in last 27 games - DanSchwartzgan - 03-02-2022 (03-02-2022, 10:16 AM)Dirknows Wrote: On a per 36, his numbers are basically the same as Andre Iguodala’s in his 2nd year. Difference is we have to project Greens 36, while Iguodala was playing 37.6 minutes a game. I’d say Greens best case comparison is Iguodala, a guy who can do a little bit of everything while providing plus defense. I think that is a reasonable comparison, even down to the fact both went to Arizona. Josh was the 13th ranked prospect in his draft class and Iggy was 27th. That obviously changed by the draft as Iggy went 9th compared to 18th for Josh. Iggy had two years to prove himself compared to one college season for Josh. Green will finish his second season as a 21 year old and Iguadala was a year older at the end of his second season. So, Josh is a year early in putting up the per-36 numbers Iggy put up in his second season. Covid plays a role here as Green’s first season was essentially lost. If he’d stayed in college that year like Iguodala, Green would be a rookie this year. It kind of feels like this is his rookie year given how last season played out. That’s why I point to 23/24 as the point I expect him to bloom. Let me add that I love him playing with Maxi and dislike him with Dwight. He can do Dwight-like bouncy stuff. And his picks aren’t bad. But paired with Dwight, one of em has to be able to knock down 3s. Which scares me. Absolutely. The numbers bear this out fairly dramatically. This is a really good observation. Shutdown defense, down the stretch of the 4th quarter, is what keyed the Mavs title. When you can defend like that, the pressure goes way up on the opponent. The basket starts to shrink. On the other end, this team is being built to have multiple players attacking the rim. Plus, the scoring pressure lessens, when the opponent isn't able to score. This is how the good teams win. They keep the game close for 3 1/2 quarters, then up their intensity, grab their win, and go home. Credit to JKidd for creating that approach and mindset, with essentially the same players as before. For the most part, he has earned them. But with the depth of similarly talented players, it would have been easy to see him lose minutes. Kidd hasn't done that. This is the best growth for him as a player. Maybe his minutes decrease the closer to the end of the year, but I am really good he has gotten and earned minutes this year. He may never be Maxey or Bane, but there is something there. This team is reborn and I think is in much better position to make a deeper playoff push than I thought before this road trip. Maxi and Bertans hitting their shots consistently would make this team very hard to beat. Both have injury concerns. Memphis has never been there(playoffs, young squad) before. Utah has been an underachiever, lost Ingles and has had locker room issues. Denver has injury concerns. LAC has their top 2 guys out. The Pels have Zion out. Why not the Mavs? Next year the West gets much more challenging. I don’t see why we couldn’t hang with anyone at the moment. We just watched Luka punish Lebron and Steph one on one at the end of games. This is the moment when Luka takes over as the top player in the world RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | 20-7 in last 27 games - Winter - 03-02-2022 (03-02-2022, 11:15 AM)MaxiThreeba Wrote: Great point. I would be remiss if I didn't amplify many of my previous posts about Josh Green. I do not think he is going to "become" anything. I think projecting him to be something more is just fool's gold. I think there's a much better chance that what we see now is closer to his ceiling rather some early development stage. The guy flies around with a lot of energy, but mostly he's just reacting to what's happening. He can't initiate anything. He can't back down anyone, he can't take anyone off the dribble or post up. His court vision is nothing special. His defense is OK and his passing is pretty good. In truth, there are dozens like him in the NBA. Most of the comparable players like Green don't start unless it's a bad team. I like that Kidd plays him a lot right now. That's good for a lot of reasons. I happen to like it because I suspect he's tradeable, and we will need some youth in any package trade this off-season. But if he's a starter on this team, then we have low expectations. Yes, I know he's only 21. Ok, that's my Josh Green post. I'll duck and cover now. No need to duck and cover. If that's your opinion, I can respect that. I don't think he's anything special either. There are plenty of guys on teams that fit his DNA. But maybe he can develop into a decent role player down the road. Some of the same things were said about Justin Anderson, and how'd that work out? Similar to Dinwiddie, this is another scenario where THJ doesn’t have a role when he returns. I would have LOVED that trade sheesh. Also follows a similar framework of getting 2 role players of need in Dragic and Trent Jr. Still would love to find a way to grab Trent Jr. if he's actually available. But I think the need for a center is greater now. RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | 22-7 since Dec 31 - ItsGoTime - 03-03-2022 I was saying in discord. When some of us were laughing at the proposed KP for Wiggins trade idea a year ago. In hindsight that might have been a good trade if he was to play here like he is there. Would have been a year of him here and without KP too. RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | 22-7 since Dec 31 - Hypermav - 03-04-2022 Considering that Irving and Harden (trade), Lillard and CJ (trade) and Steph and Klay (not himself yet) are the best backcourt duo's starting the year. Where would you rank Luka and SD or JB. CP3 and Booker would probably be first this year. Conley and Mitchell are pretty good. I think Luka with either is a top three backcourt. To take that further, do the Mavs have the best 3 guard combo in the league?
