RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | SD & DB won't debut till Tuesday - KillerLeft - 02-13-2022 Not sure if this has been posted here yet, in its entirety. https://youtu.be/1U4zaxx3uFA RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | SD & DB won't debut till Tuesday - KillerLeft - 02-13-2022 This is mostly a rehash of all the same talking points we've been bludgeoning each other with for two days, but there are a few worthwhile nuggets, including an interesting tidbit about KP's feeling that he probably wouldn't last the year in Dallas. I think it's a fairly nuanced and balanced conversation, too. https://youtu.be/Sqn_sn5Jqs4 RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | SD & DB won't debut till Tuesday - cow - 02-13-2022 (02-13-2022, 01:50 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: This is mostly a rehash of all the same talking points we've been bludgeoning each other with for two days, but there are a few interesting nuggets, including an interesting tidbit about KP's feeling that he probably wouldn't last the year in Dallas. I guess it hadn't sunk in yet. The Zion quip is interesting too. Bill also mentioned Joel. I know he gets hurt a lot but his body seems different, more stout, better suited to handle to hold up in the long term but I guess anyone that size and weight you have to worry about. Shaq was probably the real unicorn considering he wasn't the best at taking care of his body. JJ Reddick chimed in on the deal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXaxgPF9-R0 RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | SD & DB won't debut till Tuesday - KillerLeft - 02-13-2022 (02-13-2022, 02:11 AM)cow Wrote: Shaq was probably the real unicorn considering he wasn't the best at taking care of his body. Can you imagine if he had??? Yeah, it's crazy. I watched Blue Chips recently. He was an absolute Adonis. The crazy thing is, even when he put on the weight, his jumping ability was crazy. Howard's build was pretty similar and stayed in much better shape, too bad about his back. I saw Bertans mentioning fighting with the Wizards everyday which is funny as it seems he was part of that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shO98UPFMDg RE: MAVS NEWS: 16th O, 5th D | 5th in West | SD & DB won't debut till Tuesday - audiosway - 02-13-2022 (02-12-2022, 08:28 PM)Kammrath Wrote: Told ya. That was exactly my thinking as well. I had a feeling he would play 5. Matter of fact I just mentioned the other night on here that Kidd would likely start running someone like Maxi at the 5 with DFS at the 4 and 3 guards (Luka, JB, and SD). I think the days of a center are gone with the way the game is played. Unless they can stretch the floor like Embiid or Jokic. I always mean to listen to his podcasts, but it slips on my other podcasts and I very rarely catch them. I was interested if he ever shared the fit between Luka and KP from his time with the team? Remember when Carlisle decided in the playoffs that KP was best used as a floor spacer in the corner? Now picture Bertans in that same position nailing darn near 60% of his shots and thriving in that role with no drama. I can see it. Yeah, this is a clear message that the team is moving (at least temporarily) back to the style of offense that was working here, or at least something similar, only with more ball-handling (improvement from Brunson, adding Dinwiddie). I am okay with that but I do not want us turning into the Harden Rockets teams under Mike D'Antoni that ran Covington out there as a Center. Regardless of how innovative the game gets, you still have to have legit bigs on your squad. This along with the beard Luka is sporting these days is something to be proud of as a fan. Exactly. At least now you'll get more consistent outside shooting from someone who knows their role and won't complain about it. KP wasn't a good rebounder and neither is Powell. That's why Luka is picking up 15 rebounds like the other night. I think Kidd knows from his playing days that you can do just fine with the guards and SF rebounding. Marion was a beast on the boards playing with Kidd. Kidd was always a beast on the boards. Also, with higher percentage outside shooters less need for rebounding. Then, you have SD who can create for himself and others. In theory it should open up their offense a great deal while not really sacrificing much on D. Urgently needed First Step toward significant change to the roster. Too much risk in waiting until summer for better offers. Wanted off of KP, but didn't want to have to pay to do it. Dallas was pessimistic there was any market for KP until Toronto/Washington showed interest right before the deadline. Toronto backed off due to health concerns. He doesn't define the Toronto package, but it is easily surmised (me talking now, not Stein) that Dallas was paying the pick since the alternative was "luxury tax hell" by acquiring two undesirable contracts. You don't pick luxury tax hell if the alternative is cap space AND you get a pick. Deal worked because Washington was just as eager to dump their two guys Dallas hopes to rehab both to what they were when they earned those deals. If they do, each is more trade-able than KP was. Signing DFS and hopefully signing Brunson this summer puts them in a stronger negotiating position should teams come calling wanting those players. His mention of Brunson wasn't in the sense that it was eminent or even on the table. More in the vein that a rebuild is needed and that was another logical path if the KP thing didn't work out. Sad chapter for Dallas. Swung big and missed. Thought about bringing KP off the bench in the playoffs, but would have been too much of a detriment to value to do so on such a big stage. |
