RE: MAVS NEWS: JG, Maxi, RB, Luka (ankle), KP (toe) out | 21st O, 13th D | 9th in West - michaeltex - 12-21-2021 Are the added players on a time limit deal, like a 10-day contract? What happens when the main team gets healthy? Do they just go back to their old G-league team? Is their old contract still in place or does it have to be a new signing? Are Hunt and Carlik vulnerable to another team picking them up? Any team can pick them up if they wish so. Look at what we lost. The biggest thing we lost is defense and 3 point shooting (from Maxi at least). Neither Hunt nor Jones are great defenders, and it was pointed out earlier that Pinson is actually shooting a better 3 point % in the G League than both Hunt and Jones, in addition to being a better defender. We all know why they got Chriss as well...Hunt may only 1 inch shorter, but he can't play center at only 190 lbs. If these guys have to play, we also don't want both of them having to get used to the NBA. To be honest, while I listen to Mavs Moneyball and like it a lot, let's be real. They never miss an opportunity to crap on the Mavs players, front office or Cuban. They are right at times, so I don't want to discredit them, but they fall that way in my opinion. They do a lot of analytics work, but they seem to get their energy by criticism and complaining. There's a place for that. And even if they do, their couple of minutes will not make or break the season. Mavs could for example decide to stop playing suboptimal lineups and it would have much bigger impact than a couple of end of the bench guys. What Mavs got is a huge dissapointment from Hunt and Jones, who thought they might make it to Mavs sometimes in the future. The call up, even if just to warm the bench, would mean a world to them, I am sure. It is also part of player development. Some smart teams (Toronto, Miami) have guys stashed in g-league for a couple of years working with them and developing them, getting several useful rotation players from non-drafted FA, always providing a cheap way to fill the end of roster. Mavs prefer handing out BaE to vet min guys like Brown, Bobi and similar. Chriss is still an odd decision as I don't think he's in the G-League which, if true, would make me wonder what kind of shape he is in. He also has a history with Luka. On the flip side, he was a high lottery selection so maybe that's the interest? RE: MAVS NEWS: JG, Maxi, RB, Luka (ankle), KP (toe) out | 21st O, 13th D | 9th in West - TXBamanut - 12-21-2021 (12-21-2021, 03:13 PM)omahen Wrote: Assuming there is no limitation who they can call. That's one person's opinion, but it's far from certain. We don't know what the Mavs got. We also don't know what their evaluation is of the players...the jury is out on the current regime on their track record of evaluation, but they could like Jones or maybe not. You and I are fans, they are professionals. We spout opinions and pretend it's facts, and they actually create facts (Pinson is a Mav) and actually respond to facts as they see it in their business. We just opine about it. The difference between your opinion and mine is that I'm just looking at some data and stating one perspective. I'm not pronouncing judgment on "what the Mavs got" and "some smart teams" and "always". The smart team of Miami's only championships were made off a good draft pick of DWade and a pile of veteran minimum signings and on major FA acquisitions and vet min contracts. Teams do both strategies and loads of different percentage combinations of draft, development, trade and FA signing to win...there is no one way to do it. Miami and Toronto have both signed min contract FAs in their heyday. Miami's only championships have come on the back of major FA collusion signings and a pile of vet min contracts, so let's not revise history like they just stash 2nd round picks and develop star after star from the G League. Personally, I think you have to be good a several areas or just get extremely lucky, and honestly, you have be lucky no matter how good you are. I think signing Marquiss Chriss and Theo Pinson, while Hunt and Jones, actually keep on getting minutes and developing, hopefully filling out the holes they have that are keeping them from the league now, is a much better plan than saying "hey, you guys stop playing and just come watch the game up here on the bench." I think taking any and every conceivable opportunity to throw shade at the front office is lame. They deserve criticism for things for certain, but this isn't one of them and what I think is highly unlikely for sure is that Carlik Jones and Feron Hunt become the key to a championship at all. Good for them if they do, but the best for them, at this point, is probably is to keep getting minutes and working. RE: MAVS NEWS: JG, Maxi, RB, Luka (ankle), KP (toe) out | 21st O, 13th D | 9th in West - TXBamanut - 12-21-2021 (12-21-2021, 03:15 PM)cow Wrote: Chriss is still an odd decision as I don't think he's in the G-League which, if true, would make me wonder what kind of shape he is in. But I'm not freaking out about signing him to a 10 day and not signing Carlik Jones. That's ridiculous (not that anyone here has freaked out over it). I think concern in that area is so minimal it's not really worth it. I think, at the best for Chriss, he has been productive in the league, and for 10 days, if he has to play, he's not having to learn the ropes before he's gone again. If he shows something, great...he's only 24, one year older than Dennis, so maybe something clicks and he is worth it. If he is, he'll probably stay, if not, he probably won't. For me, I wouldn't be surprised if he can be a better "Willie" (for what we want from Willie), than Willie can be. Who knows, but it's not the big hairy deal that some want to make it out to be, imho. There again, just my opinion. Looking at past couple of years, Miami developed Nunn, Robinson and lately Strus and Vincent. All while they made it to East finals two seasons ago and be in a wider circle of contenders this season. Siakam was picked as 27 th, Anunoby was 23rd pick, FVV and Boucher were undrafted. Who did Mavs develop since DFS? I also selfishly want more apex athletes on this team. Play a game for 2.5 hours of sweating and huffing and puffing, then one of the opponents tests positive the next morning, if not later that night? And this is the product everyone is OK with?
