Speaking of KP photos, does anyone know where I can find those pictures from his Midsommar vacation? A friend of mine doesn't believe anyone would ever willingly go to a place like that.

I actually still have this book marked for some reason.

One last gift from Rick Carlisle.

So doesn't sound Lowry would be joining KP here if length and rebounding are viewed as the biggest needs

So far everything is looking like the typical Mavs-way of handling things. We’ll see at the end of the night + next week, but right now they are setting up:

- a passive draft night where they don’t put in the work to acquire young talent

- a FA summer that’s headlined by a 35 year old PG

They only need to strike out on Lowry and that’s basically exactly the type of offseason we’ve seen for the last decade with the known outcome.

I hope Nico is better than this.

Didnt all three of our picks play in the G-league last year?

It might be time for Finley to do the interviews instead of Nico.

That is true, but doesn't every team say they want flexibility, length, shooting and rebounding.

If the targets is Lowry plus Hardaway, I am not sure length and rebounding can happen.  I would love at least one physical presence that other teams hate playing against.

I don't want to read too much into quotes like this because typically they don't say much.   BUT this makes me a little nervous.  We have a new, inexperienced front office and the more complicated things get the more opportunity for something to screw up.    Especially if they do not have strong relationships yet with other front offices.

I know it is never as simple as signing this guy and wrapping things up nice and easy.    Although, each extra step increases complexity and opportunity for things to go off the rails.  The more complex things get the easier it is to outmaneuvered by your competition as well.

Inexperienced or not, this front office will be judged squarely off results.

Let's hope the speed of the NBA GM game isn't too fast for our new guy, Nico. Donnie knew the process. There was the deal-making and the over-ruling of his work, that can be time consuming. By the time that's done, another team may have swooped in and stolen his targeted player. Hope the learning curve is not too steep.

I like the quote, because if true, our new F.O. is working its tail off. What he's describing, if this is what they're doing, is the organized, thorough, scientific, systematic approach. Rather than relying on intuition and focusing a few scenarios in a disjointed way, they work up all possible scenarios, keep them ranked and work each one thoroughly.

This makes me think that the leadership talk regarding Nico is no joke. The task he describes is not one that he can do alone. He has to organize and oversee his staff and require output from them. Thiis feels like the oposite of the intuition based, disorganized, disjointed processes from the past that finally broke down in complete chaos.

I loved Donnie. But everything that has come out makes it sound like that he didn't actually command the team. It sounds like all he had were the scouts. Rick was doing his own thing. The analytics guys were doing there thing. Whether it's that Donnie didn't have that level of leadership ability, or that he was undercut by everyone answering to Mark, which essentially meant that he wasn't able to command the staff as a team, the end result from what we've heard was a disjointed, unorganized effort that completely lacked process.

Hearing Nico talk makes me think that the staff is his, his focus is leading that staff, and that they will operate with coordinated purpose and defined processes.

I'll reserve a lot of judgment on how the team looks until after the trade deadline. A meh free agency is certainly a possibility. Difficult financial situation and not a ton of clear upgrades out there
But something clearly has to be done tradewise. Be it a sign-and-trade or whatever it ends up being
