RE: MAVS NEWS: JB hurt foot | FN hurt calf | 17th O, 18th D | 4th in West - Kammrath - 11-25-2021 RE: MAVS NEWS: JB hurt foot | FN hurt calf | 17th O, 18th D | 4th in West - sefant - 11-26-2021 Just noticed this:
2 or 3 more wins were pretty realistic imo. Now just imagine the last game with Powell playing the 4th and OT compared to Kleber. Do they win? Even though FN has taken his place, you still should try to keep developing him. The more versatile wing depth the better.Lauri Markkanen remains my number one target. If our big rotation right now was KP/Lauri/Maxi we’d be competing for the one seed. Assuming Bullock starts getting his shots. I like your list but let me replace Bagley with Jonathan Isaac. Markkanen/Isaac are my absolute ideal realistic targets. RE: MAVS NEWS: JB hurt foot | FN hurt calf | 17th O, 18th D | 4th in West - MAVS-SLO - 11-26-2021 Markkanen train (if we want him for cheap) is gone this summer when he was a free agent. Same goes for the Richaun Holmes too. Isaac is interesting option, but i just don't see that Magic will be trading him for a cheap and giving up a lot for him considering his injury history could also be conserning. Goran will (probably) sooner or later end up in Dallas. I think it's just a matter of time. Or TDL or as a free agent next summer. Completely agree with Bagley and other Kings players. I would also put there a players like Taurean Prince and Thaddeus Young. Also, agree with trading WCS, Powell, Burke, Green and try to get something useful in return. But, extending Brunson & DFS and then drafting well could probably be the ''easiest way'' to become true contenders. He does not address any of our current needs. You can't play him to "protect" KP. He can't guard bigs you would want to avoid putting KP on, and he can't guard the rim in general. He will always be a negative on defense. Offensively he can't distribute and is not a particularly good offensive rebounder. He is a career average 3 point shooter and his career year last year may have been an outlier. Personally I would rather have Theis, especially for half the price. Just atrocious. At some point the sample size ceases to be "small" and the data ceases to be "noisy." I know you keep repeating this +/- trend, but any stat painting Luka as the problem is just wrong. WCS/Bullock/Powell/Brown need to actually give production on the court. They haven't consistently so far. I believe that's the main issue with this team and what we should be focusing on. We need a 3rd guy or a starting quality big. A guy like Gafford/Theis/Holmes/Harrell/etc. instead of WCS/Powell. Or a guy like Jerami Grant/Hield/Dragic etc. that can bring some different looks that Brown/Bullock can't/won't bring. I think asking for both might be too rich. I actually am content with our guard rotation of Luka/JB/Frank/Burke as Frank is filling in as the defensive minded secondary ball handler quite nicely. The offense production with him on the floor, to the production without him is more or less game changing. Guess THJ being underwhelming the entire season has been a huge problem in that regard. He just offers nothing to the team, if he is in a slump. Mavs offense is 0.2 pts off the Mavs best offense in the league (Jazz), better than the Warriors with Brunson playing. The moment he isn't playing, they are worse than OKC's numbers. That sample size is 450 min huge. How does the offense suck so much without Brunson, when you still have Luka/KP? Because we have absolutely no other well-rounded basketball players. The Mavs are obsessed with 3&D players and disregarding mid-range playmakers like DeRozan like they are evil. Nobody on this team can shoot off the dribble, float or make adjustments. It´s all drilled mechanical 3 pt shooting through a lot of hard work and little pure feel for the basketball. I have said it before: Luka and Brunson are literally the only players I think will make the shot, if they dribble inside the 3pt line. Everybody else I expect to miss. People blame the missing wide open shots for our problems that will eventually out-correct, but if you simply suck at shooting off the dribble, when there is any body movement in your shooting motion that you cannot adjust to, it does not matter how open you are. Guys like Ntilikina, Green, Burke, Bullock, Brown simply can´t make a shot inside the 3pt line no matter how open they are. I mean the biggest elephant in the room is THJ at the moment. 31 % FG in his last 5 games, on top of pretty bad defense. Not sure if Frank/Green could do any worse. This 100% People are talking about trading Brunson when the guy we need to be trading is THJ. I do not think he is a championship piece at that salary and as a starter. He is worth half of his salary and his production matches that worth. The Mavs need him to be consistent but unfortunately I am not sure he ever will be. Brunson should be the starter IMO. It would help if we had a guy like Dragic on the bench, so we could always have two ball handlers on the floor. Timmy should get plenty of minutes and be aggressive looking to score, but I like that role better for him coming off the bench. With two ball handlers on the floor, it hides the weaknesses of DFS and Bullock a little. Although Bullock needs to pick up his play. Then short term, the Mavs are really missing that piece to mix and match with KP and Kleber. I want a player who can score and get easy baskets with a ton of other stuff too. Goran has split with his wife this summer after 10 years or so of marriage with two kids and it was for sure difficult for him and his family.
