And ideally it shouldn't cost much of the core of Luka/KP/THJ/DFS/Maxi/Brunson. Only reason why I believe that is that the Kings were more than ready to give up on Hield for Kuzma+Harrell. Kuzma at the time was seen as nothing more as a 6-7th guy, so that's the value we should try to replicate. So we dump DP and WCS, 6'10" and 7'0 respectively, for 6'9" Theis and 6'4" Heild? Do KP/Maxi truly play the 4 in this system? Is Boban one to depend on for a nightly 20 minute rotation? One of the trends I'm noticing is our bench mob, who doesn't have the explosive scoring of the starters, appears to defend the hell out of the opponents. Not sure adding Hield and losing WCS would support that effort. I don't thing we should pay anything extra (2nd picks) in the trades. If HOU is rebuilding, will Wood become available at some point? They are going to be handicapped by Wall's contract for the next couple years for any team building efforts. He is probably a little bit of upgrade offensively from THJ, but he may be even worse defensively. Feel like this team already has enough one way players. Besides, our bench is already killing it. Theis on the other hand, would be a perfect addition. If the FO plan is to protect KP during the regular season with another big on the floor (at least when the opponent goes big) then what they really need is a guy that can play with KP, but also be a legit back-up center. Theis would play that role so much better than Powell/WCS. This feels like another miss by FO. If they operate under the cap I think the could have squeezed THJ, Bullock and Theis. For Maxi and KP both. We want both of these guys healthy and fresh for the playoffs, at least if we get the versions we've seen thus far. If either of these guys get injured, let's give them a long as they need to get 100%. Don't bring them back at 75 - 95% in the regular season. Maxi was overexposed last season. Between being played too many minutes, and not looking the same post covid, he was not the same player he was in the past, or that he has been this year so far. If we're going to get out of the first round this year, our shooting bigs and rim protectors need to be healthy and fresh come playoff time. They're the two best guys on the team in both of those departments. RE: MAVS NEWS: Maxi out | Luka hurts ankle | 19th O, 17th D - Kammrath - 11-16-2021 In the last 5 games the Mavs have an ORating of 116.1 (best in the league) and DRating of 109.6 and Net Rating of +6.4 (3rd best in the league). This is while shooting 37.8% from three, which is good, but not some crazy absurd number. NBA schedulers can't do any better than that? Can't spread the games out between two team any better than that? KP has been negative in +/- in four of the five games. In fact he's only had one positive +/- game all season. Pre-injury his FG%'s were .308, .350 and .200. Since returning every game has been .538 or above except the one positive +/- game in which he shot .308. He's averaging 16.8 shots per game in those five games since returning scoring 23.3 points and bringing down 9 boards. Luka has been positive in +/- in three of the five games since KP returned. He's had two games ALL SEASON where his FG% was over .500 (he was .391 last night). He's never been a great FG% guy, but when 3's and FT's are added in, his TS% has typically been very good for a high usage guy (over 58% the last two seasons, but .520 so far this season) THJ has been wildly inconsistent both in +/- and his shooting in the five games since KP returned. On the plus side: DFS has been positive in 4 of the 5 games since KP returned. He's hit 50% of his 3's in those games. Bullock has also been positive in four of the five games since KP returned (the exception was the Chicago loss). He still hasn't found his stroke on a consistent basis. Frank has been positive in four of the five games since KP returned. He's also .500 from the field in those five games. It is actually Jalen Brunson who is carrying the team. In the four wins since KP's return he's been +1, +26, +20 and +10. He's averaging 31.6 minutes in those games and has hit .544% of his shots. His four net negative games correspond perfectly to the four games we've lost this season. He didn't shoot poorly in those games (.548 FG% in the four losses) nor was he the problem from a +/- standpoint as the team was dramatically worse when he was off the court. It is good that things seem to be turning despite missing Maxi. He was the third rated player in On-Off among the top nine rotation players behind Brunson and Frank. The competition on our wins hasn't been the best, but the return of Maxi and Luka actually becoming Luka again give reason for optimism. |
