RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - Tyler - 09-21-2021 (09-21-2021, 12:52 PM)F Gump Wrote: Franky took a deal with no guarantee in year 1, a team option with no guarantee in year 2, and a camp contract where he bears the injury risk -- so the Mavs haven't shown any real commitment to either so far. FYI -- It looks like you're wrong on that first year guarantee. https://twitter.com/TheSteinLine/status/1440487055566376963 RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - F Gump - 09-21-2021 (09-21-2021, 08:35 PM)Tyler Wrote: FYI -- It looks like you're wrong on that first year guarantee. Yeah, every source had a completely different contract than Smith is reporting -- even Stein, before today. It was being reported in some places that Frank only had an Exhibit 9 deal, and Stein had told us the 2nd year was a TO. Based on this note, apparently none of that was right. This of course changes the picture. With the Mavs having committed a full season salary, at about 3 times as much as Brown's guarantee, FN is apparently penciled in to be the 15th man, and Brown right now is currently on the outside looking in. While that's not set in stone, that's the most likely outcome we will see. Money does matter. Expiring contract. 40% shooter from 3 last year off the bench. I can totally see Dallas kicking the tires on an ideal backup to THJ. I have always been meh on Lamb. I know he hurt a knee over the last year and a half, but I have not really kept up with him. While I see a gamble with some upside, I am not sure this moves the needle enough for me. I am sort of intrigued with Omahen's Eric Gordon suggestion. Although that has some major red flags too that could stop be from moving forward with that. He is injured a lot and his three point percentage the last two years has really dipped. When Houston was real good with Harden, I think Gordon level of play could be Hardaway-ish. I can certainly see him going for 20 in a big playoff game. With his big contract, injury concerns and dip in shooting percentage, the other big question is if Dallas has room to give a player like him 25 plus minutes a night? If the answer is no, it is probably better not to take on a longer contract and maintain flexibility. Although it did get me thinking. (09-21-2021, 04:19 PM)Tyler Wrote: Schwartz client. Expiring contract. 40% shooter from 3 last year off the bench. I can totally see Dallas kicking the tires on an ideal backup to THJ. My presumptions have been: 1. Dallas would like to move Burke's taxable 2022 salary. Taking on extra non-taxed dollars in 2021 to get off smaller, but taxable dollars in 2022 makes great sense to me if Burke isn't in the team's plans. 2. I presume Moses will take Willie's backup center role a year from now when Willie is expired (with Boban hanging around another year for insurance purposes). 3. With Burke gone (in my world of presumptions at least), someone has to be the emergency third PG. We can argue whether Frank's best role is as a D and almost 3 Wing or as a backup PG, but he can certainly perform the emergency third PG role for a limited period of time. I'm glad the reporting seems to be coming around to fully guaranteed one year and TO on the second (fantastic if he works out as you'll have EB rights on him after two seasons). If there is a deal to be had for Lamb, I suspect Burke is part of the outgoing. That still doesn't create enough roster spots, so maybe one more body? If it is Terry or Moses, we use up the TPE to do the deal. Moses can't be aggregated until 9/29 according to the Fanpro Trade Machine. So, there is a logical reason why this isn't done if it is Moses. Such a deal (Burke/Moses) makes sense in terms of presumption #1, but violates presumption #2 (of course, nothing says my presumptions are accurate). It could also be Burke/Willie for Lamb, which wouldn't require Dallas to use the TPE. Thinking further out, if we trade for Lamb, it doesn't mean he will make it through the season. He and Willie are a trade match for Dragic. Whether Lamb is dealt for Dragic, or is used with someone else (expiring Maxi?) in a larger deal, he turns the TPE into something that can be leveraged and combined with other players and makes if more useful for an in-season trade. Not necessarily for getting Dragic, but by making the TPE value combinable for future trades. Right now it's like having a free-meal voucher at Olive Garden when you really want something from Outback. Wouldn't mind losing Burke and Terry. Would still like to see what Brown brings before trading him away. Seems like the "throw in" for deals often is the best value part of the trade. DP was like that and THJ fits also. So maybe there is something unlockable in Brown. Hey, it's pre-season and almost everything is debatable right now. According to their data, Luka is still two years away from having his maximum effect. That's great for DAL, but should worry the hell out of the rest of the league. Could he be lying? Sure, to save face with his ego. But wonder if this is true? It would seem to mean that Cuban valued his info/data so much that he didn't care about the other stuff. And Haralabob was probably locked away at a certain point anyway, not allowed around the team. RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - mavsluvr - 09-23-2021 (09-23-2021, 12:31 PM)Kammrath Wrote: RE: Haralabob Asking Out of Contract Yes, another weird factoid in a very weird situation. The DMN article contained this additional bit of information, don't know if it was posted here at the time -- On July 26, Nico said on the Ticket that he had not met Bob and did not know what his status was, but he was aware of how much "chaos" Bob had caused. [I assume that was what Bob was referencing in his tweet.] The article also referred to a "power struggle" between Bob and Donnie, which eventually resulted in both of their departures. It refers to disagreement about Bob's influence over roster-building strategy, rotations, and lineups. RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - michaeltex - 09-23-2021 IF he got Luka PO'd enough to yell at him during a game, then I'm sure they wanted him out of the locker room. RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - Tyler - 09-23-2021 (09-23-2021, 12:31 PM)Kammrath Wrote: This is a super fascinating piece of information. Even if both sides agree that it isn't a good fit long term, holding him to his contract to support the draft and free agency process and transition any systems to new management would make sense. And considering the chaos, keeping him under NDA probably didn't hurt either. RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - fifteenth - 09-23-2021 Would the Mavs have kept him under contract in order to keep him from joining another team during the offseason? Seems most likely that he didn't do anything for the Mavs during that time. Regardless, I give Cuban a pretty low grade how this was handled. I think it could have been handled much cleaner. Having Nico answer questions about him without mark saying anything was messy. In the end, it probably won't mean anything, but I just thought it handled very sloppily by Cuban. And I am not sure why he went down the route he did. |
