RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | Ntilikina expected to sign in DAL - HoosierDaddyKid - 09-17-2021 (09-15-2021, 12:47 PM)michaeltex Wrote: I agree with the defensive comments, but each of those players were good enough to keep the defense honest and even carry the offense for stretches. Watch the finals and you'll see one stretch where Marion scored 10-12 points in a short time to keep the team in it. Kidd was a decent 3pt shooter and big enough to post up a lot of his defenders. We all remember Stevenson hitting big 3s. And the combo of Ty and Hay meant consistency on both ends regardless of who was in the game. That seems like ancient history now. They need to create some new magic. This is the only highlights I found. His jumper looks pretty smooth in this game. He was not very good to put it nicely. Played in four of six games. Averaged 2 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists in 10 MPG. Shooting numbers 27/28/0. I can´t blame the Mavs too much for finally trying to get younger. Ntilikina is worth a try at the minimum. Wouldn´t have been my top choice as a reclamation project, but fair enough. I just hope the fall guy is Trey Burke (one way or the other). If it´s Moses Brown, I´m not sure I like it that much anymore. Ntilikina is two years older than Brown, has had three years playing on losing teams and he never produced the raw numbers that Brown has at OKC. I think at the moment the upside with Brown is higher than with Ntilikina. My comment was to show a template for freeing up our heavy lifters by making the opponent play honest defense. If they are going to double or triple Luka, then they pay the price of our other guys scoring. 2006, apart from the tidal wave of Wade FTs, was about them swarming Dirk and nobody else stepping up. 2011 was improved balance and more reliable scoring from the role players. That's what I hope we are moving toward. What? The average age on this roster is like 26. The oldest rotation player is Dwight Powell at 30 I believe. People's obsession on this board with playing younger guys is so strange. When does training camp open? I've heard Bullock and KP are in town. Any word on Luka and the rest of the guys? According to Brunson's Instagram he just left on a daytrip to go see the Eagles (yuck) play and has promptly returned to Dallas. THJ's latest post puts him in Miami as of last week. Pretty sure Luka and Boban are still overseas. Josh Green did post a pic of him, Maxi, Powell, and Brunson all hanging out in Austin a bit ago so I assume they're also all in Texas. I think media day is the beginning of October so training camp should start very soon. RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - Aussiebballer - 09-20-2021 Training camp starts in 1 week, 28th I think. Preseason games start on the 4th, Mavs on the 7th. Only 4 preseason games for the Mavs 2 then a 5 day break then the last . RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - michaeltex - 09-21-2021 There are currently 20 guys on the roster, which is the max in pre-season camp, correct? And they have to get to 15 + 2-ways? Is there a cut date, or just get there before the season officially starts. McLaughlin and Omoruyi are the current 2-way guys. So at least 3 cuts (IMO) come from: Feron Hunt Carlik Jones Tyrell Terry Moses Brown Trey Burke I think Burke stays for salary matching. My heart says Brown stays because of potential, but there is already a crowd at 4/5. That leaves Hunt, Jones and Terry. Hunt and Jones can preferentially sign a G-league contract. Terry has a contract, but it's time to cut bait with him. I would have included Green, but he's a FRP with a FRP contract, so I guess he stays but may be another salary match for future trades. Also, if Brown stays and shows some fit, does that make one of the other bigs expendable? At some point there will be inquiries due to injury or other need. I have to say though, Brown looks like a kid in the photo on the website. That's not a judgement about what he can do. As far as anyone knows, the roster is healthy going into training camp? RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - F Gump - 09-21-2021 About the expectations we have had for Dragic, did we simply fail to "consider the source" in evaluating the rumors and the likelihood? Recent reports have said: Mark Cuban 8-31 "I thought we had traded for Kobe Bryant." Mark Cuban 9-7 "We had a deal done" for Paul Pierce. Tin Cato, 9-8 "The Mavericks remain confident Dragic will end up on the roster one way or another...." Marc Stein 9-15 Mavs still hopeful Dragic will reach the open market in the next weeks or months. Agreed. Although I can see Frank being seen as a more attractive prospect than Terry, even at their respective stages of their careers. If Terry had an incredible summer league I'd probably be saying otherwise, but I fail to see how the guy is an NBA player. Frank is just as fringe of an NBA player but at least he can play good defense. RE: MAVS NEWS: Preseason Oct 6-15 | DAL hopeful to sign Dragic in coming months - fifteenth - 09-21-2021 I really have a tough time ranking who is most likely to make the team out of this group. Frank N. Feron Hunt Carlik Jones Tyrell Terry Moses Brown Trey Burke I don't think there's an everyday rotation player in that group, based on current play level. So ideally you'd keep potential. Does that mean you keep Frank, Terry and Brown? Maybe it means that preseason matters and that there is going to be compeition. Burke and Terry have 2 guaranteed seasons, while none of the others have much (if any) money guaranteed. 3 Hunt and Jones have contracts that commit them to Frisco, if waived in camp. As a result, I suspect Burke and Terry are safe (unless they are incredibly awful in camp), and the 15th slot will be decided in camp between Brown and Ntilikina. Brown was a trade throw in with only 500K guaranteed FORCED on the Mavs by the rules if they wanted BOS to take the obligation to J-Rich -- and Franky took a deal with no guarantee in year 1, a team option with no guarantee in year 2, and a camp contract where he bears the injury risk -- so the Mavs haven't shown any real commitment to either so far. Makes sense. Makes me think that if Frank can show any signs in training camp that he could play D and shoot the 3 as a wing, then he probably wins the try out. Expiring contract. 40% shooter from 3 last year off the bench. I can totally see Dallas kicking the tires on an ideal backup to THJ. Luka/Brunson THJ/Lamb Bullock/Sterling DFS/Maxi KP/Powell That's a balanced team with lots of shooting. Deep bench: Burke, Ntilikina, Green, Terry, WCS, Moses. One (or more) would have to go, possibly as part of the trade. My best guess is Burke + Terry and/or Moses. That would leave 3 good situational defenders in Ntilikina, Green, and WCS to fill any holes as needed.
