You really need to chill a bit. No need to be depressed. The THJ trade was brilliant. The flexibility it provides is really nice. Who knows who will come (or come back), but we have access to quite a bit of optionality.
Personally, I’m excited to see what Nico has up his sleeve. The key is net improvement, not whether this guy or that guy is still here. We have paths to net improvement.
I'm not depressed, man. I'm bored and semi-doing a bit.
I do struggle with the reactions of this community to some of this stuff, but not in any way that's truly affecting my mood. Just ready for this all to really happen (and hopefully get executed well by the Mavs).

As I noted weeks ago, I think DJJ strongly prefers Dallas because he has been on the other side of the situation, where he doesn't fit in the rotation, can't get minutes, and doesn't enjoy it at all. The Mavs went out and showed they feel the same way, making a trade to pay him more than they started with. And they are saying he's their top priority. Everybody sees what the Mavs have made possible.

This is the way I see it, too. I was starting to think I was the only one.

I would guess that a S&T involving LA would probably require a 3rd team to take Russell. Not impossible, but also not simple. If there was a major market for him he would have opted out.
how about Dallas join in as the 3rd team to facilitate the trade. it would make Dallas dodge what might be a bullet as some people described it, and it would be fun to get Russell cheaply as a backup ball handler.

I may be the only one who thinks this, but I would rather just walk away from chasing some else, and keep Green and Maxi rather than get Russell.

I would 100% prefer to keep Green and Kleber (Green OR Kleber, even) over D'Angelo Russel.
I don't think he's a bad player, but I'm all in on Hardy, as long as he's not outgoing in some trade and starts the season on the roster.

That's a bad deal.
I get that his physical profile is special, so his potential is sky high. I've been following him since that draft, and he's a bust. Measurements are only worth something if you know how to play basketball.
I'm hopeful O-Max can be what this dude was supposed to be.

As everyone knows, I am big on the idea of prioritizing contracts that work within a bigger salary model -- which means that random wildly big numbers paid to a player who becomes the flavor of the day are avoided, in favor of the player who is about the same but will come for way less.
So my dream scenario is to see BOTH Klay and DJJ signed, and fit together in the THJ+Green salary space that would be created if Green went back to GS in a SNT scenario for Klay. That's about 26M combined.
That would look something like DJJ at 9.5-10M and Klay at 16.0-16.5MM. I don't know if that would be enough for Klay to trump an MLE offer from LA of 12.9, but I think it might. At those numbers, I jump all the way in and offer 4 years to each with full raises each year (DJJ starting at 10M would total 43M over 4 years, and Klay starting at 16.5M would total 71M.)
Bigger numbers are possible if Maxi is added to the outgoing, but I think he's worth way more to the Mavs than if added to a trade. And it feels like chasing a potentially bloated number if I try to increase Klay's 1st year salary to 25M by adding Kleber.

totally agree with Forrest. the right and reasonable price for Klay should be no more than 20m a year. having two competent players for the SF position would be a luxury, albeit not so much of an upgrade, it would give you more and different options imho. hope lively develops a consistent jumper so we will also see some interesting varieties at C as well.

I doubt GSW would entertain any salary back in a SnT. They want to get significantly better for Curry, they don't want some 8th best players on MLE level money (they have plenty of guys like that on rookie deals), much less so the likes of D'Angelo Russell. These guys would be preventing them from any potential big swings using CP3 deal.
I don't think Lakers would be really interested in a SnT, where they would have to pay assets to someone to take Russell. I think Lakers are trying to get two deals. One is using their contracts (preferably DLo) and assets for a very good player and the other one is MLE. I don't think they will offer Thompson more than MLE.

KCP is not available for Mavs. He demands way more than MLE and it was already reported, that Denver will not help Mavs with the SnT. Stop posting him as what should be the main target. Mavs tried, did their due dilligence but there is no path to him.

assuming we get Klay and keep DJJ then our best 7 man rotation will be luka/Kyrie/PJ/lively/klay/gafford/DJJ, with role players like exum/Grimes/hardy/omax/maxi sniffing some minutes alternately. maybe some backcourt guys will get dealt for a back up PF then our roster will be more balanced tbh.

You dont do this for someone you are penciling in to replace the THJ role - dude will be a starter.
What happened to priority 1A and 1B? something tells me that once Klay commits and GS plays ball, Mavs are ok to lose DJJ, probably to LA.
worst case scenario is Klay signs with a team like Orlando for a big offer, then DJJ is scooped up by Lebron and LA. Not sure though what his role in LA would be as they already have Lebron, Rui, Vando, Taurean Price, Cam Reddish at the 3/4. So if he wants to have a significant role, Mavs is his best bet.

This comes from my personal valuation of Klay. Since no salary is coming their way, I think the cost for their facilitation should be minimal. Cash, fake second or similar. They do Klay a solid, they get a nice TPE and keep their flexibility moving forward.
If I am Mavs, no way I would be taking the risk with Klay, his age, decline and his salary and pay a FRP for it. That would be a bad deal imho.
