RE: AROUND the NBA: Lavine/Bulls ready to part?| Knicks lose 2nd rounder from JB fiasco - F Gump - 12-22-2022

I'm wagering that should the Raps have a sell-off, PS is the first player they are keeping to build around. Wouldn't you?

My sense of things on all the Raps players is that rather than trade off players to bidders, they would be looking to bundle 2-3 of them together to get a much better player. Looking for a star, not pieces.

Maybe, maybe not. He's 28, which is about the age when players get a little "malcontentish" about feeling like they can't win. They've had issues in the past there between Siakim and management.

He's the guy they've been trying to build around since Kawhi Leonard chose the Clippers...and now people want them to tear down. To me, that suggests that maybe he'll be the FIRST one to go, so that they can start focusing on Barnes as a cornerstone.

EDIT: if they actually tear down, of course. As you say, they might be looking to improve, not to reset, which doesn't happen as often as the Mavs/media think it should.

Agreed. I think they are looking to move some of the rotation guys that aren´t really needed as long as they are missing a legit first option. But if the offer isn´t involving multiple unprotected picks I don´t expect them to move Siakam or OG.
Someone already mentioned it. They have everything in place. Except for the superstar franchise player. That´s the hardest player to find but if they play it right they might be able to repeat something like the Kawhi trade.

They probably want to cash in on some of the guys that might interest teams that are all in this year. Selling Trent Jr, Boucher or Porter Jr. Maybe Van Vleet.

Those names are all intriguing, too, on various levels lower than Siakim.

He probably becomes available. It won't matter...
The bidding on Siakim will far exceed what Dallas can offer... unless it drags on into the summer: Then Dallas can offer up 3 first rd picks (after the draft) in 24, 26, 28 and Toronto should look at this franchise and gamble on '28 being unprotected.

See, maybe this is naive of me, but I can actually envision him potentially going for less than that (if he's ever really available). He seems to be kind of a league afterthought, for whatever reason.

With Siakam, I can see him going for a little less simply because some team is presumably paying for the privilege of handing him a 40m a year contract. But not too much less. I think it’d be a question of the level of protections or whether we include Hardy. But anything less than 3 first round picks for Pascal would be a huge win. I think I prefer him to OG because of his superior rebounding and playmaking. OG is a few years younger and maybe a better pure shooter and slightly better defender. Siakam also has a nice mid-range game. I’m sure he is valued by GMs around the league as a top 20-25ish player, all things considered.

This and what it would cost to get him (vs Siakam) is fully the reason I want OG over Siakam. If they are tearing it down, OG will be on the outs, however, the smart play would be to trade FVV and Siakam to get the right pieces around OG, Trent and Barnes. Orl would be a really good trade partner for them having all those C's.

I have always been sort of a fan of Mo Wagner.  He has played well this year.  Say what you want with the Lakers, but they draft well in the late first and second rounds.  Unfortunately, most of their picks are now on other teams.   Although, while Wagner is a solid player they did pass on Brunson, Robert Wiliiams, Gary Trent and Jared Vanderbilt.  So I guess I shouldn't give them too much props on the Wagner selection.

As Forrest Gump so aptly put it, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get"   You can say the same for drafting players in the NBA.

What a strange situation.   Charlotte had two back to back end of the lottery picks and wound up with one player who they are not playing.    I think it was known he was not a finished product, but just weird he is getting no playing time with the real team.

The Mavs are really missing Kleber and DFS. On the bright side, I think the offense has been much better since injuries forced Kidd to remember spacing is important.
