This makes me think Lebron is floating this story of him taking a paycut "for the right guy" just to look good to fans when in reality there won't be anyone "worth" the paycut for.
none of the players that can significantly lift their ceiling and bring them back to championship considerations would accept their MLE. if LeBron is a man that values the team's success more than his own, like Dirk and Tim duncan, he should go further that way, like taking MLE money himself so his team would have adequate space to sign quality players that are truly helpful. but we all know LeBron ain't such a man tbh.

Well KCP is probably looking at a massive offer from ORL truthfully. It was floated to be around 25 mil a year.
DJJ will have to take a pretty serious paycut on the MLE (starting at around 9mil) and the Mavs have to send out Maxi+Green to get to that number

Changes in the CBA that start on 7/1:
A team is now allowed to acquire a player under contract into their non-tax, biannual, tax or room exception.
Example: Dallas can acquire Quentin Grimes into their $4.7M biannual exception. This would allow the Mavericks to create $16.2M trade exception from the Tim Hardaway Jr. trade. The Mavericks would be hard capped at the $178.7M first apron.
A player traded is now allowed to extend for a total of 4 years (including what is left on his contract) and a 120% raise in the first year of the extension.
Example: Player A has a $20M salary and is traded to Team B. He is now allowed to extend for 3 years $75.6M.
The prior rules only allowed him to extend for 2 years $43M.

Further, I'd view KCP as sort of a lateral move from Jones. He's a little more 2-way, yes, but I'm not sure their defense is that far apart, and Jones is WAY younger. Plus, you know he's a fit in your culture. Seems to me that internal improvement should be prioritized over that one, although I do like KCP, the player.
I see it similarly - KCP is not good enough offensively to make us decisively better.

well that would work with the Detroit deal a lot easier since we wouldn't have worry about keeping space for a MLE
doubt Denver wants much if any salary going back

Good info, but I think he's forgetting that Dallas is already hard capped, due to sending out cash in a trade.

I think many owners are smiling right now, because this was almost the two, specific teams targeted by the latest CBA figuring out a way around it. If Paul George signs in Philly for nothing (my bet) and GS can't find a talent infusion somehow, both teams are about to decline steadily and for quite a while, still remaining exorbitantly expensive on their way down.

Ok, but even if you think that's a good idea, and I don't, to SH's point, if Denver could compete with $25 m in salary, they'd just give it KCP. I don't think they'd want to sign and trade for that amount, even to spread around to more players, considering the limited control they'd have on which players. I could be wrong though.

*I* don't think any of those options put them over top. I have no idea if Lebron thinks one of them might (there's not much evidence that he is a particularly good GM), or if, as others are saying, the list is pure propaganda. I'm just pointing out that $16M/year for Lebron James is proportionally about the cost of a week's vacation in Cancun for your average middle class family. It's not nothing, but if he genuinely thinks it will bring another ring and/or increase his overall brand it's also not much of sacrifice.

The trade isn't completed yet, so this is likely similar to one of those vintage Mavs-make-a-ton-of-rearranging-deck-chairs-on-the-Titanic-moves summers where the order of operations matters big time.

I love the Mavericks, but most NBA players just view the Lakers as a different level of brand
If the Lakers offer the same money as the Mavericks, it seems tough to think the Mavs have the edge over the Lakers for Klay’s services
