RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 - DanSchwartzgan - 06-09-2020 Interesting article where the playoff teams draft one player off of the non-playoff teams: https://theathletic.com/1856045/2020/06/08/mock-expansion-draft-adding-one-player-from-non-bubble-teams-to-bubble-teams/ Here are the Picks: Washington: Curry Phoenix: Trae Young San Antonio: KAT Sacramento: Draymond Green New Orleans: Kevin Love Portland: Mitchell Robinson Orlando: Zach LaVine Brooklyn: Markkanen Memphis: Porter Jr. Dallas: John Collins Philly: D'Angelo Russell Indiana: Wiggins Houston: Christian Wood OKC: Luke Kennard Miami: Devonte Graham Utah: Malik Beasley Denver: Miles Bridges Boston: Capela Clippers: Tristan Thompson Toronto: Kevin Huerter Lakers: Collin Sexton Obviously there aren't too many current all-stars in an exercise like this. But there are some interesting names in terms of roster building off of bad teams. The names that stood out to me were OPJ, Kennard and Christian Wood. OPJ and Kennard get lots of mentions around here. OPJ was the first defensive wing off the board. When he's been healthy in the past he's a very nice compliment to what we have. He's crazy over-paid and it would be challenging to trade for him this off season. But, he might be a good add in 21 assuming we have Hardaway money left after retaining...Hardaway. Kennard is attractive because he's restricted. Such a deal would be like obtaining Noel (hopefully without the hot dogs). You can trade for him this off season knowing what he counts against the cap in 21. The asking price doesn't seem high because of his injury history. I realize the writer here passed on Wood and drafted Collins. In the real world, Wood is an unrestricted FA and Collins is a very expensive get. So in theory totally reachable RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 - MrGoat - 06-10-2020 (06-09-2020, 09:21 AM)omahen Wrote:(06-09-2020, 05:54 AM)khaled1987 Wrote: Don't the 9th seed need a 3 game difference between 8th seed or something like that? Actually SA is only 4 games behind Memphis. 32-33 is 5 more wins but 3 less losses than 27-36 which averages out to 4. Memphis is going to need to gain extra distance on SA, Portland, New Orleans, and Sacramento to avoid a play in RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 - michaeltex - 06-10-2020 (06-10-2020, 07:34 AM)MrGoat Wrote:What happens if there are two teams tied for 9th but within 4 of 8th? The Kings, Blazers, and Pelicans are all 3 and a half behind Memphis. Say the Kings, Grizzlies, Blazers, and Pelican all go 4-4. The Blazers get the play in because 33-41 would be a slightly better win percentage than the 32-40 the Kings and Pelicans would have even though they would all be the same amount of games down. But if the Kings and Pelicans finish with the same record tied for 9th then it would come down to the normal tiebreakers to determine 9 vs. 10. Head to head, division winner, better division record, better conference record, etc. This would only be the case with the Kings and Pelicans, everyone else would come down to winning percentage because they have all played a different amount of games. If the Kings and Pelicans aren't scheduled to play each other again the tiebreaker would go to New Orleans, if they do then it would go to Sacramento if they win that game. This is because the Pelicans are 1-0 against the Kings but have an abysmal in division record RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 - Hypermav - 06-17-2020 https://theathletic.com/1872208/2020/06/17/the-athletics-2020-nba-local-broadcast-survey-results-new-york-reigns-supreme/?redirected=1 Mavs @ 12 - Article mentions they are better than that ranking. Followill carries Derek, but we knew that. They found the Rockets were the worst and that is spot on. Spurs were 28th and I would agree with that as well. #12 Dallas Mavericks (+8): Mark Followill and Derek Harper do the Mavericks games, and I’m honestly shocked they ranked this low. They’re a top 5 League Pass broadcast team for me. Followill is one of the best at what he does. Love what Harper has done for the Mavs since the 80s and respect him but Followill needs a better sidekick... Pacers are a proactive team. I´d send them Wright, Brunson and #18 for Oladipo this summer. That´s more than fair. That way we can test Oladipo for 12 months and see how good he still is before paying him. Draft Reed, Stewart or Pokusevski at #31 to groom as back-up center, when Boban expires. Use the MLE for Dunn or Saric. Giving up a solid contributor in Wright, a #1*-Pick and a own secondround drafty I really like (too much?). And we are not even getting a Powell as a throw-in. To make matters worse this player was a (very opinionated strong-minded) PG, who Carlisle often clashed with, even in good times. Add some unresolved feelings about the decision to breakup a championship team and a little Party Parsons with his degenerative knees. In retrospect it´s actually surprising the Cuban/Carlisle relationship survived that internal struggle. Luckily they found some common ground to blame it all on Rondo and his backcourt violation.(07-03-2020, 05:59 PM)Mavs2019 Wrote:(07-03-2020, 05:07 PM)omahen Wrote: https://www.nba.com/article/2020/07/03/indiana-pacers-victor-oladipo-sits-out-restartSounds like he´s very motivated to have a proper contract year for himself. I mean on paper Oladipo is one of the best 3rd stars we could add to a core of Luka and KP. But, Oladipo looked like a shell of his former self returning this year. 13.8ppg/3/3/ on 39.1%/30.4%/78% Really ugly numbers. And he looked like he lost more than a step. Now I'm sure he could be just working into game rhythm, but what if that's just Oladipo now? 14ppg on 40% shooting and an above average wing defender? He'd kinda be like Wes Matthews without the range. We're risking Wright Brunson and the 18th pick on Dipo returning to form. And a patellar tear is one of the more serious injuries a player can have. Andre Roberson tore his in 2017-2018 season and he hasn't returned to the court since. There are whispers that he "might" come back for the 2020-2021 season. Almost 4 years and the Thunder aren't 100% confident that he can even return. As injuries go, a patellar tear is just as on par as an achilles injury in terms of career altering/ending. And I'm not sure if risking Brunson, Wright, and the 18th pick on the hopes that Oladipo can be anything more than 14ppg on 40% shooting with no range is worth it. Especially if Dipo is trying to secure that bag. |
