He is averaging 4 asts in 22 mins though, so is doing some good playmaking. I want to see if the shot comes around. Way too early to judge on a 19 year old. Yeah, I don't think the book is anywhere near closed on him. I do think it's a good sign that Haliburton was the Mavs' target, though, because HE looks GREAT. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - Omega_Supreme - 01-03-2021 SO far the Mavericks draft is looking like a failure. I don't think Rick will play the youngsters RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 01-03-2021 (01-03-2021, 04:46 PM)Omega_Supreme Wrote: SO far the Mavericks draft is looking like a failure. I don't think Rick will play the youngsters Is that really how you judge success/failure in a draft? Because the Mavs are a playoff team with most of their roster returning. There are only a few rookies in every class who can break into a good team's rotation. I'll just be happy if two of the three end up being rotation players, myself. If the measure was "who can help this season" then they should've traded the pick. I am judging it on numerous factors. I am looking at guys drafted around where we drafted and also whats on our current roster and also how some of the rookies are producing drafted around where we are. Again, I am saying so far our draft is looking like a failure and I think its hard to argue otherwise You cannot tell me these 2 guys would not be in our rotation right now. We should have drafted guys that were older and ready to contribute. Our draftees may not be contributors until the ends of their rookie contracts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6w-F64Q9ck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1tXG8qSurE RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - cow - 01-03-2021 Not to argue for or against our picks, but there is a lot more opportunity to play in Memphis and Detroit right now and Carlisle is always a little stingy with minutes for most rookies. The shortened offseason/preseason doesn't help either. You won't believe me, but I 100% believe there is no chance either of those guys would be in the Mavs rotations right now. I agree completely. No chance in hell. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - StepBackJay - 01-03-2021 I still like Green as a prospect. He is on a veteran team that is stingy with rookie minutes. Rookies should play when they're the best choice for the minutes, or when the team is so bad that it doesn't make sense to do anything but force-feed minutes to the rookies. Carlisle has shown that he'll play rookies in both of those situations. Green is not better than DFS or Green. If he were, he'd be playing. That doesn't mean it was a bad pick. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - Kammrath - 01-03-2021 (01-03-2021, 05:40 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Rookies should play when they're the best choice for the minutes, or when the team is so bad that it doesn't make sense to do anything but force-feed minutes to the rookies. I firmly believe that generally speaking RC prefers to develop rookies by giving them limited minutes and wants them to focus on the outside of the game routines. He seems to not want them to develop bad in game or out of game habits that will be hard to reverse. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - F Gump - 01-03-2021 Given the Mavs' track record on draft picks outside the top 10, it's certainly fair to wonder if they picked the right guys this time around. Every time, in fact, until they show us something. But anyone who claims they already KNOW the future career trajectory of all these guys picked in the back end of round one? After looking at some stat lines, in only a few games, for this player or that? And you instantly KNOW which guys will be turn out the best, and which won't? I'm not buying. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - SleepingHero - 01-03-2021 I think Bey would most definitely be in our rotation. Bane probably not. I'm not as optimistic as others around here regarding Green and Terry. They haven't shown much so far but to be fair they haven't really been given an opportunity. Add on top of the shortened offseason, no training camp, AND no summer league we have to take these things into account and understand that not having these things can severely affect how some rookies look. I'm not surprised that our rookies look like a deer in the headlights right now. Finally, it's way too early to judge. It's been less than 2 weeks of an odd season. Give it till next year before we make any sweeping conclusions, at least that's what I'm doing anyways. Till then I'm holding judgment and going to try and be glass half full as I can, even if I don't really see either Green or Terry as legit NBA players right now. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - Scott41theMavs - 01-03-2021 KL and Kamm, I respect y'all a great deal, but my firm opinion is that saying that Saddiq Bey 100% wouldn't be part of our rotation right now - and we're running a 10-man rotation with KP out - is bald skull shock value. Moreover, I think the same of the mere opinion minus the "100%" part. Of course he would, period. They decided to play the long game in drafting Green. If he ends up being less than a starter in four or five years, it will be pretty obvious that it was a significantly blown pick. Look, I wanted to draft SBey, too...but he’s a 4 who can play some 3. Is he getting minutes ahead of Powell, Kleber, Johnson or DFS? Hardaway? I don’t see it. (01-03-2021, 07:22 PM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: Johnson, and eventually Powell when RC pulls his head out or we escape from that contract. So, the comment was about NOW. You think he’d be playing ahead of those guys NOW? RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - Scott41theMavs - 01-03-2021 I'm also conceding my championing of Terry pre-draft as erroneous. One of his greatest pre-draft strengths was his self-confidence, and I've seen virtually none of that on the NBA floor. Not to mention not being able to hit threes, which was his even more apparent calling card. He's several years away from being a rotation player, when he was supposed to be the replacement Seth, which means they blew that pick too. RE: AROUND the NBA: Harden is demanding a trade - dirkfansince1998 - 01-03-2021 There are different approaches when it comes to the draft. Especially when it comes to non lottery picks. Go for NBA ready guys or go for upside. Mavs went for upside. Time will tell if they picked the right guys but it is way to soon to judge this years draft picks. Ahead of Johnson and thus part of the pre-KP ten-man, absolutely. |
