Interesting listen on the Mavs last two years.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 06-28-2025

Maybe the Mavs have something up their sleeves (although that can also be really scary), but I think I am fine with staying patient. Use the TPMLE and create a spot to sign a veteran point like Exum or someone similar and then see what happens for the first of the season. I am all for keeping good players on good contracts and staying flexible. If you start next year and you are better than you think, than maybe you can think about a bigger trade. In all liklihood, next year may be fun (it better be more fun than this year) but not a true contender. If things go right, I think the following year is when they could be really good and may look to make that finishing move. Also, next years draft is going to be really important to this team. Either with trade or with the pick. Ideally it is a younger player who can be a rotation type player sooner than later.

If things go right, I think this team is missing a Jrue or Derek White type player. Hopefully they are south of 30 though. They are hard to find so you will need to be patient and smart with your current assets.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - F Gump - 06-28-2025

Besides the MLE guy (whoever that may be), I really want to see Exum and Kai added, and Hardy and Powell subtracted, to round out the roster. I see Kai for DP as both an upgrade and a way to give the roster more upside, and I see the same with Exum for Hardy (who, despite his occasional flashes of decent play, has shown us nothing worth having).

Would I want that to happen with Martin outgoing so that some player is added, or without so that no player is added? It would make me no difference, although I fail to see any good use for CM on this roster and think the team would be better served if they can find someone to take him and his gratuitous salary off their hands.

Anyhow, I would love it if we could see a roster populated like this:
GUARDS - Kyrie Exum Williams Klay Christie MLE-guy
FORWARDS - PJW AD Flagg Marshall Omax Martin (or replacement via trade, or Edwards, or enforcer/tonesetter, or empty)
CENTERS - Lively Gafford Jones

Sadly, the presence of both Hardy and Martin clogging the roster need to be reminders to any of us now fantasizing that Nico is somehow a good GM after all. Both the Hardy contract and Martin trade were "own goal" type moves by Nico, showing a lack of roster building expertise and doing something stupid each time, thinking he was "creating an asset" with absolutely no awareness that a meh player - even with a cheap contract - is not somehow an asset other teams will want to trade for. Neither was justified or necessary at all at the time. If we could only erase that combined 15-16M cap hit between them, and the payroll would become incredibly different and way easier to navigate. Instead, both will most likely end up needlessly eating up needed roster room this season (getting in the way of players who can be useful and at a far better price) as well as bloating the payroll, and they are slated to be issues plaguing the Mavs for multiple years ahead. Of course. Ugh.

Kyrie links up with Cooper.... Paige, and Cade Cunningham at WNBA game.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Winter - 06-29-2025

The link above may need a dash at the end of the URL to work properly.

I listened to Mike Marshall's entire interview (it's almost an hour long), and there are some things that are truly bad - but almost all of them are problems with understanding how an NBA team is supposed to operate, and incredibly poor communication with people in general. The playoff bonus is particularly appalling. Marshall (the Mavs media manager with a staff of 22 I think) never had much communication with Nico in general, but the meetings post-Doncic trade were brutal. Everyone was pissed off, and everyone in the organization was getting hammered in the media. They couldn't control it. No one knew what to do, and no one helped in any constructive way. Basically the media people were just told to go fix it.

Yes, it was bad and may still be bad. When Cuban took over, he had the wisdom to keep a lot of people in place. These people simply didn't understand what they were doing. What truly threw the new owners for a loop was that the NBA lost a ton of revenue because of television broadcast issues last year and Amazon had not fully materialized at that point. The Mavericks didn't build this loss of revenue into their model. I don't know why that mattered really considering the money they have, but apparently it did. The Doncic trade made everything much worse.

The NBA Draft made things markedly better, but by that time Marshall had found another job. I'm not sure where things stand now.

The entire Mike Marshall interview is here. This is the video referenced by the Sports Illustrated article above.

I got the impression Nico was able to take advantage of a power vacuum right after the sale. Essentially he hardly needed to answer to anyone. I'm not sure that's changed now but I suspect it has. The last sentence of the SI article pretty much sums it up from the fan perspective.

Harrison is done in Dallas area (probably in every NBA area too), he has just to save his face next years.

But for the fans he is like a dead man, he can't redeem himself. No way. Impossible.

Are the Nuggets interested in adding Berea to their coaching staff?

RE: MAVS NEWS: - myconsumerclub - 06-29-2025

JJ being able to coach here would probably work out at least he could help develop Nembhard.

Perhaps you meant pipedream? A wet dream is...uhhh a totally different thing LOL.

Maybe you really like Cade that much!

RE: MAVS NEWS: - BoredAssistant - 06-29-2025

I think a wet dream is when Nico thinks of Kobe.

@MavsFilmRoom
Stein reports that:

-The Mavericks are expected to sign D’Angelo Russell to a 2-year contract worth around $12 million

-The Mavs are expected to explore the trade market to dump O-Max Prosper so that they can retain Dante Exum

Stein has been all over it. Cuban being back in the fold just a coincidence?

Is this confirmed, or speculation? I haven't seen anything.

Nothing can be confirmed until 5:00 pm Central Time today. But reporters like Stein use phrases like "leading contender" or "frontrunner" so that there's no 'tampering'.
Here are his exact words on the latest report:

Could the Mavs get a SRP for Omax and then use that pick to 'dump' Hardy? I'd rather get off his 3/$18M if it'll cost a pick, rather than Powell and his 1/$4M.

Having Powell on the team for one last year doesn't bother me I guess, I just want Kai Jones back. So, an Omax for air trade isn't the only move I'd want to see.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - HoosierDaddyKid - 06-30-2025

So, is Dinwiddie out of the picture? I haven't heard jack on him.

RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 06-30-2025

I am fine either way if Kai is not back. I thought he was pretty good, but he would be a deep, deep bench guy. If you can move two guys without giving anything up, sure bring him in. I think Exum (or someone similar) is the much more important part currently.

I can't imagine the Mavs make any effort to acquire him.
