I really haven't studied much on the picks, but I think I would gamble on Bailey if I was Washington. Go for the risk. There may be some other guys who may fit just as well. Washington is a long way from contending. Even if their past two picks hit, it feels like neither are going to be top 2 guys on a team. So they might as well gamble a bit. Stink next year too and then see where they can go. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Smitty - 06-24-2025 (06-24-2025, 07:11 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: Most people think AD is best at the 5. The mavs and AD disagree. Gump and I went back n forth on this for a while. I think #22 is fair value for Gafford, but I can see how some might not. Is there a world in which it is #13 instead of #22? I wonder if we fell in love with someone when we were scouting with the 11th pick in mind. Something to bear in mind...if we are doing a deal where we open up the TP MLE, we don't HAVE to take a point guard with both the draft pick and in free agency. One or the other could be almost any position. I saw where a SI writer proposed a 3 team that sent Gafford to the Warriors and PJ to Atlanta. Dallas got Moses Moody, Georges Niang, #22 from Atlanta and a protected 2028 from GSW. The Atlanta part doesn't work for me. Moody and a protected first for Gafford? Moody is another Rich Paul guy. It is surprising how little his per minute production has progressed over his four years. His counting stats are flatlined. But, 3 places where he has shown progress...WS (1.3, 1.3, 2.4 and 3.5), Corner 3's (.243, .340, .315 and .435) and the last two years he's become positive On Court (3.3 and 4.8) and On Minus Off (0.7 and 2.2). When you think who he plays for when he's in, that last one is fairly impressive. RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 06-24-2025 @Mavs_FFL Report: The Mavs want to keep both PJ and Gafford on the roster and hope to fend off trade calls, per Stein. #MFFL RE: MAVS NEWS: - DanSchwartzgan - 06-24-2025 (06-23-2025, 10:48 PM)F Gump Wrote: One note about PJ. He and the Mavs undoubtedly have already talked extension, and figured out whether the numbers are going to work for both sides or not. One day soon we may get news out of the blue that he's been traded. But as long as he is still a Mav, we are going to be in the dark on any extension (or lack of one) until well past the active trade season (that extends from now until the end of July or so), until we get to around Sept 1. Thanks for this. If my early morning math is right, his six month window after signing what he's eligible to sign would carry beyond the TDL. So, if you trade him, it is without additional years and if you give him additional years, you can't trade him (unless the number comes in within the E & T number...which it won't). One or the other could be almost any position. Trading arguably our two best role players for Moody is an… adventurous thought by SI I know you said the ATL part doesn’t work for you, but I’d argue the GSW shouldn’t work for you either. Moody has been given countless of chances to take a step and he’s flatlined as you’ve said every time. GSW fans are done with him. He can look like a player for 4 games and the revert back to unplayable for the next 10. A lot like Josh Green in that sense, except he’s not hyper efficient nor is he a solid passer. I think his advanced stats are inflated due to him playing next to one of the best PGs of all time and Draymond Green, a defensive savant. Giving up Gafford for that kind of player is just asset mismanagement. But since the Mavs got the first pick, I'm inching my way back to the team. But not really fully back, as long as Nico is with the Mavs. I don't think I am alone in this. I am still rooting for Luka, but I am now thinking of how the Mavs can improve, a far improvement from a couple of months back. I'd like the Mavs to retain Gaff and PJ, while trading away Martin and AD. Start fresh. Nico obviously needs to go, better if he takes Kidd with him. Christie can stay and be the last remnant of the Luka trade. Kyrie can stay too if he wants to. I'd settle for the Nico firing and accept the mess he has made. Absolutely, he could be worth #13 to the Hawks, depending on who's left to pick from when they're on the clock, and if Dallas' target is still on the board. I could see that happening all the same. That's why I think we could still see a Gafford trade on draft night. Of course, the Hawks would have to miss out on who they'd like at either of those picks, and the Mavs would have to have their guy available, but it makes a lot of sense to me for both teams. I could see that happening all the same. Does DAL really want to take on another guaranteed rookie contract given the declining quality of this year's draft? (I'm looking at you OMax). Of course a non-guaranteed deal might leave them with another Brunson-type fiasco in a couple years. RE: MAVS NEWS: - myconsumerclub - 06-24-2025 so roster is shaping up 3 Cooper, PJ, 5 Lively, Gafford 4 AD, PJ 2 Klay, Naji, Max 1 B Will, __?__ we need one more semi decent PG not a starter quality just a placeholder for Kyrie. and add in Irving when healthy enough NOW OR LATER ON WE CAN MAKE ADDITIONAL MOVES AND BE PATIENT ENOUGH TO LET A GOOD DEAL EVOLVE WERE THEY OVER PAY US. BESIDES THERE IS LIMITED SALARY $$$ TO GET USED AND AFTER THAT $$$ DRIES UP WE CAN SNAG A FA PG THAT DID NOT GET SIGNED. With what we will have to spend this is probably the only way we can really proceed. Depending how many spaces remain after we deal with using our trade bait pieces for assets I am hoping we can add some more talent to strengthen the bench, Our rosters top 10 is looking solid enough now to contend but we may want to add extra depth, especially at PG. Potential Moves Remaining: Add either a FA PG, draft one with a pic we acquire, or trade assets for 1. Add Kai Jones at PF/C to give us some cheap insurance against injury and he can actually play enough to earn minutes as a back up. Add 2 to 3 more guys with the goal of having 3 in total 2 way players a SF/SG, a PG and a C/PF type to make it so we have a player to use in case our older guys ( AD KLAY KYRIE) get hurt or we want to rest them to protect them from being worn out in the regular season. Everyone got hurt last season so we need to cover potential needs with 2 way guys that we can call up and use to rest guys. Who knows maybe we find a diamond in the rough. Potential Trade bait if we can find someone that wants to ditch a player we want. 2 SALARY FILLERS Powell: expiring deal makes him valuable to teams like Boston. I don't like anything Boston has but they are depserate to lower payroll and I would think others are as well. Martin: His value just needs a little developing after last seasons shit show but by TDL maybe his best game is on display again. 2 YOUNG TRADE CHIPS WITH UPSIDE Hardy: Can he get over 40% shooting on 3's early in the season? If so let him stay and sell him later on keeping the competition open at PG with him there to get a bucket when the offense goes cold is useful but if we can steal a PG from another team then you got a good guy on the shelf to sell them on a trade when one becomes available. Omax: His contract is too cheap to make me want to trade him now and he had some great games when given minutes last year. His value to others needs to be nurtured and then maybe we can get something back for him. If he really shines we can keep him his salary is not enough to really use in a trade anyway. Attach the value of Hardy or Omax to the combo of salary fillers Powell and Martin mix and match as needed to find us a player making more who is available and a better fit for this roster, capiche. Worst case scenario is we cannot find someone to add at PG through draft or FA so we just need to give up a top 10 member of the roster for them. Top 10 roster by value to the team: 1. Cooper 2. AD 3. Irving 4. Lively 5. PJ 6. Gafford 7. Klay 8. NAJI 9. Max 10. B Will Does it have to be a Gafford or PJ? I like them enough to want to keep them. I would consider the last 4 to be trade chips for a starting quality PG who fits here, if that is possible. RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 06-24-2025 @All_Things_Mavs Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) reiterates that the Daniel Gafford extension was NOT put in place just to be flipped in a deal this summer. However, he says, you would have to expect them to listen to offers that includes a major upgrade at guard. |
