RE: MAVS NEWS: - Razzmatazz_Hopskidillydoo - 05-16-2025 Thought I wouldn't care on the Mavs off season plans, I was mostly thinking of who the Lakers can get at C, but here I am back at thinking of Mavs related problems LOL. Giddey is my top choice for a reset button but AD has to be traded for a chance at Giddey, so it won't happen. .. And I wouldn't want him at 30M a year, so the Bulls can keep him if they are willing to pay. AR15 if LA wants Gafford. Although not a PG but can play make and has good handles. My other option involves a PG-by-committee approach, meaning, Mavs is to sign/trade for a group of guys who can play PG and can play spot minutes at PG but is actually a 2 guard. Let me just get the 2 spots filled with Exum and BWilliams, then the third guard can be: * Walter Clayton (my top non-marquee choice), get a pick, I don't know who they can trade, but a pick must be one of the incoming) * Tyus Jones -- how much does he want? * Vit Krejci - dude has PG skills, and was actually a PG before coming to Atlanta, he just couldn't get the ballhandling gig from Trae, (Dejonte at some point),and Dyson Daniels. Dude can pass, and is a willing passer, the dude can shoot too. RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 05-16-2025 (05-16-2025, 07:43 AM)HoosierDaddyKid Wrote: I think they show OMax the door. They don't have time to wait for him to develop. True. But also OMax’s deal makes him very appealing to keep as a cheap backup option. If he’s a 3rd string guy behind Cooper and PJ, do we really mind he’s not 100% ready? At 3 mil, he’s barely above a vet min deal. But I think we’re at the point where OMax is no longer untouchable. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Scott41theMavs - 05-16-2025 I just want to say, it's so nice to see the resurrection of this board. It was pretty much a dead letter a week ago. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 05-16-2025 So Jason Kidd wasn't wathing the lottery either. He was in California. RE: MAVS NEWS: - michaeltex - 05-16-2025 I'm thinking Gafford is going to be the main trade focus. I would expect to get a player/pick haul to capture part of what was missed in the Luka trade. I also think they will find ways to shed Powell and Hardy. OMax is a question mark in that he definitely has an NBA physique, but nobody is sure about an NBA brain. He'll probably be available for trades if needed. He has TO's for next season and the one after. Are those year by year decisions? I'm not sure what role Martin has on this team going forward. I would not re-sign Exum or Din unless there are no other options available. Exum only played in 18 games and Din tried to be the hero too often and would kill ball movement. PJW is just too flexible to let go right now. He's a very good defender against all but the biggest opponents. I do wish his scoring was a little less THJ-esque though. Marshall plays hard, has an interesting floater game and shows flashes of passing creativity. BWill will be a youth addition as he showed a lot during the season and playoffs when given a chance. Maybe not THE answer at PG, but can be part of a group solution. I also think DAL can keep front court depth by signing Kai Jones. He felt a lot like Gafford-lite when playing late last season. The two of them will be on cheap contracts to help the apron situation. Does anybody have a feel for Christie's status? He started off really hot, but was almost unseen as season wound down. Is he a part of the young guns group? I would like to see him evolve into more of a PG role, but maybe that's not in the cards. Finally, I add my delight in seeing this board throw off the mourning clothes and get back to looking to the future. RE: MAVS NEWS: - myconsumerclub - 05-16-2025 PJ shoots 3's okay but in the play in he went cold that last game and I just assumed it was because he was upset over the teams direction losing Luka. That means he will definitely be impacted by his reduced role so might as well trade him. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 05-17-2025 I would be fine if they decided to move AD. It probably isn't the right decision as this team should be pretty good and if they are smart it shouldn't impact their future post AD and Kyrie. It is moot though because Nico is not going to move AD. Something they also wouldn't do, but I would, I think. I would move AD/PJ plus our three first (or something like that) for Giannis. It probably wouldn't be the best offer and again Nico won't do it. MLK would get two Dallas firsts, one LAL laker firsts. They could probably move PJ for a future first from another team. AD would probably bring back 70-75% of a Giannis package. Maybe three firsts and a few unproven players. So MLK could leave with 7 first round picks from 4-5 different teams as they go into blow up mode. SA could beat that offer, but they need to be willing to throw the kitchen sink. So could Houston, but they to will need to be willing to go big. It won't happen, but that would be a pretty nice reset to this disaster of a season. Heck, get rid of Nico too. I agree we need to snag that Cooper Flagg kidd I hear he can hit the 3 well. Kessler was at 40% last year. Naji is the one we need to shake off for lack of decent 3 point skills RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 05-18-2025 MFFL NATION (@NationMffl) REPORT: Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Sean Sweeney has advanced to the second round as one of the top eight candidates for the Phoenix Suns’ head coach position, per @ChrisBHaynes Haynes didn’t mention Jared Dudley as one of the remaining candidates. RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 05-18-2025 ![]() RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 05-19-2025 Man the further we get away it is becoming more apparent that the Flagg miracle may have saved the franchise. Now, there needs to be a ton of smart moves and they still face an uphill battle. But without Flagg this team had absolutely no hope. I mean the biggest question over the next two years before they break things up is can they be a play in team. There is at least a vision for success moving forward...no easy task though. I think most want Nico gone, but there better be some safeguards in place if he stays. The next 2 years are important and they may have a chance to be pretty good. Although, that is not the focus any longer. Sure, try to win now, but not in detriment of the future. IE no big trades for an over 30 player while keeping Kyrie and AD. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Winter - 05-19-2025 (05-19-2025, 08:22 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: I think most want Nico gone, but there better be some safeguards in place if he stays. IE no big trades for an over 30 player while keeping Kyrie and AD. Agree. I think I'd qualify that and say, no big trades that include draft capital. I think players like Coby White would likely require that, and I'm not so inteested in going for a PG that requires that kind of trade. I doubt Lonzo would need anything from us other than a player, and it's possible you could squeeze Boston for something without a draft kicker. RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 05-19-2025 So would you do it? I know this is late in the summer, but Mavs should know this answer well in advance. Might be the best bet. PJ should remain a tradeable piece even with a bigger contract. It will be a delicate conversation though and the Mavs aren't good at these. https://x.com/YossiGozlan/status/1924343140456235369 RE: MAVS NEWS: - vfromlmf - 05-19-2025 That's a good deal for PJW and the Mavs the team salary structure works with Lively still on his rookie deal. That's a playoff ready rotation at PF/C with PJW-AD-Lively. Unfortunately, if PJW gets his max, Gafford probably becomes an expensive luxury. Incidently, Flagg+Naji deals should provide great value at SF. Obviously both have positional versatility, I'm just looking at it from a salary perspective. A playoff frontcourt rotation looks strong with some combination of SF Flagg - Naji PF AD - PJW C Lively Not breaking any news but DAL should sign PJW and use Gafford to find another guard RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 05-19-2025 (05-19-2025, 10:54 AM)vfromlmf Wrote: That's a good deal for PJW and the Mavs the team salary structure works with Lively still on his rookie deal. Agree that the dealing Gafford and keeping PJW is probably the preferred option. However, I think Marshall is hugely expendable at this point, too, especially if they believe Flagg will play a lot of 3. But, if they decide he's more 4 than 3, you can probably reverse that thinking. Ultimately, I think it's all about the quality of guard available, and who it takes to get them. But yes, IF you can get PJW to commit on that deal, that's a great player to have, even if he's coming off the bench. RE: MAVS NEWS: - DanSchwartzgan - 05-19-2025 What was the proposed number for PJ that people are talking about? It doesn't show the original CBA Mav's quote when I click on Chicago's link. Thanks RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 05-19-2025 (05-19-2025, 11:09 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: What was the proposed number for PJ that people are talking about? If CBA Mav's is correct and that's his max extension, then it is that offer at most or go to free agency in a year and risk injury and risk being traded to somewhere where you don't get to enjoy life (or maximize your value). If those are my choices (or I can lock in $91mm), I take the $91mm. I'd ask for the PO on year four and Dallas should try to do away with the ULTBE incentives as those hurt your apron math. I had $18mm in mind as a starting number, but I get the "percentage of the cap" argument that is being made here. I keep going back and forth on who to trade. PJ is more valuable, but more easily replaced as a bench 4/3 with things already on the roster. Gafford gets replaced presumably by Jones/Powell in the games AD or Lively misses. That makes him important in terms of getting you through the regular season. But, he may not play much in the playoffs if everyone is healthy. I read where Gafford was mad at the media (Fake News!) for saying he wanted "starter money". So, maybe his extension wouldn't be too crazy either. My preference is to keep both at good numbers and shed some of the bench excess between Martin or Naji plus Powell, Hardy and OMax. I would put draft capital with that for the right player, but would probably prefer a band-aid until Kyrie gets back over paying too much for someone who isn't in our long term plans. |
