RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 05-15-2025 Any of these get you excited. This is from Issac Harris. I am just not sure Smart has it any longer. Probably not the ideal person for the role we need. Melton too. Both good defenders though. Brogdon could be a stop gap option. Tough to get a read on him as he was on a awful team. I saw him play once or twice and he was not good. The situation may have been a big factor. Fultz is in the same boat as DSJ. He looked a little bigger than he needs to be when I saw him in Sacramento. Sacramento had no point guards and he really didn't get run. Isaac Harris @IsaacLHarris · 1h from last night. some PGs i’m watching as realistic targets for mavs trade - lonzo ball & marcus smart fa - chris paul, markelle fultz, deanthony melton, malcolm brogdon RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 05-15-2025 (05-15-2025, 03:14 PM)Chicagojk Wrote: Any of these get you excited. Any/all of them bring something to the table that makes the team better. I wouldn't say any of them are "exciting," really. Question: it's clear Jaden Hardy has become a total afterthought around here, and for pretty good reason. Is there any reason to think the Mavs might hold out some hope that there's still some potential there, or do we think they're done with him, too? RE: MAVS NEWS: - Chicagojk - 05-15-2025 You know I really thought I was going to be done with the Mavs. I watched around 50% of the games after the trade and wasn't really rooting for them. It was just habit. Even coming to a few message boards was habit. It was tough for me to break. Lets just saying this week has been great. As much as I like watching basketball, I almost like thinking about potential directions of a team more. I got to the stage post Luka that I saw no way for them to become a contender. Every scenarios was coming up as a dead end. Then after these next two years it was 4 years when we did not control our pick. It was depressing. With no way out. I have gone back 2-3 weeks listening to DLLS and locked on Mavs podcasts and it is depressing hearing them talk about the team. They were a 100% right. I am on cloud nine. Sure, I would like to see Nico gone. I don't care now if they keep everyone or if they told us tomorrow Nico was gone and AD and Kyrie will not be coming back. I would be fine. That is not going to happen and it is probably the right move at this time. There are so many directions that could bear fruit. Sure, the west is going to be a blood bath, but the Mavs should at least have a chance to compete. Will they win? Who knows but at least there is hope. Unfortunately, I think Omax is another one who Kidd doesn't trust and it is probably best he finds another spot. He just needs developmental minutes. He isn't going to get it here due to depth and Kidd's lack of trust in him. I will be rooting for Omax though hoping he can figure things out. RE: MAVS NEWS: - cow - 05-15-2025 The last time I saw Marcus Smart, he looked huge. Is he washed? He's shown flashes, but more often than not it looks like he's too small to be out there. If the plan is to be competitive, getting him the minutes he needs might be difficult, but our current guard situation benefits him in that regard. I wouldn't lose any sleep if he gets traded and I was pretty high on him initially. At least he isn't O'No'Max. And more expensive than he should be, contractually. It's not a great dream. RE: MAVS NEWS: - cow - 05-15-2025 (05-15-2025, 03:26 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Quite washed, yes. He ticks the plays hard and defensive checkboxes, but he's always had that 10% boneheaded plays within him and they usually crop up at the most inopportune times. Smart definitely had a couple of bad seasons in Memphis. But, he is not that old being 31. And he should be very cheap due to his bad seasons, plus he is expiring. Wouldn't be the first time a player like that turned it around. NBA teams have way more information than we do and I would be fine with a trade for him. I guess he could be interesting for both Mavs and Lakers ![]() RE: MAVS NEWS: - KillerLeft - 05-15-2025 (05-15-2025, 05:05 PM)omahen Wrote: Smart definitely had a couple of bad seasons in Memphis. I guess he could be interesting for both Mavs and Lakers I have never been a fan in the first place, personally, and I am even less interested now, since what the Mavs are lacking creates a void he'd try to fill by doing more of the thing I've always hated watching him try to do, play PG. A 3&D guy who can also handle and create a little? GOLD. A 3&D guy who seems convinced he should actually be featured on offense and always seems to be searching for opportunities to prove it? YUCK. I just looked, and hadn't realized that Hardy's rookie deal is literally over. I think he's probably gone, yeah. But Mavs would have no interest as it's wayyyyyyyy too much value for Ball. RE: MAVS NEWS: - SleepingHero - 05-16-2025 The more I think about it, the more I think a trade has to happen to clear up some of the backups. We have just way too many forwards. Obviously Cooper Flagg will be getting minutes. Majority of them between the 3 and 4. But he can also float between the 2 and 5 as well. But we still have PJ, Naji, Martin, Klay, OMax and Kessler Edwards. The depth chart currently looks like: Kyrie/------/ B-Will Klay/Christie/Hardy Cooper/Naji/Martin AD/PJ/OMax/Edwards Lively/Gafford/Powell And that's before even bringing up Melvin Ajinca. Remember him? Not that he'd actually make the roster, but he did have a development year in France and will hopefully have improved. Martin is the odd man out to me. Can OMax take a leap? If he does, do we really need PJ? Lots of questions truthfully. RE: MAVS NEWS: - FireNicoHarrison - 05-16-2025 O-Max & Kessler are not NBA players. I remember Martin as a dog but he looked like a chihuahua here. But Edwards is not now, nor has he ever been, nor is he set up to be, a member of the Mavs 15-man roster. (Nor do I see any good reason to think they will sign him, since his position is one that is absolutely overloaded with signed players already.) He was shown to be more playable than OMax at times. But the logistics of keeping him might just be too great. Hopefully he can stick with the Legends.
